My Napptural Journey

I am natural and lye free!!!

I’ve been ready to chop for a while now and like I’ve said in some other threads, no one in my family would help me cut it. My sister, who has agreed to disagree with me on my decision, wouldn’t. You're not ready for that is what she told me. I have a friend, who can cut hair that told me my transitioning method was working fine and keep it up. Although it was working for me, I knew it was ready to cut and become 100% napptural.

Last night was my appt with for my Big Chop. It was not so big after 8 months of trimming and cutting my relaxed ends. She cut down to my own cottony spongy (that’s what she called it) napptural hair. I still don’t know type 4a/4b and possibly 4c whatever and who cares It’s Mine!

I thought this would be one of those extreme moments in my life. Like the major
hair cut I got at the age of 12. It wasn't. It felt like a normal day at the beauty shop. I wasn't nervous as watched my hair being cut and fall to the floor. This was not a decision I made lightly and I was ready for it.

Last week when I went in to do a consultation, she did a test for comb coils. It seemed to work okay. Last night my hair was not feeling it. Each one she tried became a puff and would not hold the coil. She suggested a roller set using the perm rod rollers. I wanted braids in the front.

My first natural style has cornrow braids in the front African curls in the back. She took each curl and separated them into 3-4 sections using some Jamaican lock and twist. I took my camera to take some pictures along the way. I got so caught in the process that the only one I got was of the finished product. I will post them soon.

I washed my hair for the first time on Saturday. I wore the cornrow and curl style for 9 days. I was aiming for 2 weeks, but my scalp was begging to be washed. I decided to try the Crème of Nature shampoo on my natural hair. Unsure on whether I should try the no poo method. My transitioning hair loved the Crème of Nature, so I decided to try it and see it my natural hair would accept it. My goal is to not be a product junkie. I washed my hair while in the shower. I used my Denam 4 brush and my wide tooth comb. I liked the brush better. My hair was actually soft and detangled, but I decided to do a deep conditioner. I use the Lustrasilk Cholesterol Aloe Vera that I’ve used. It also has a detangling agent in it. I do believe I can keep both products. When I finished I could comb through my hair with no problem.

Sheddding: Compared to the amount of shedding my relaxed and transitioning hair did, I was amazed to see that the brush had less than 10 strands of hair in it. That may have something to do with the recent hair cut. Now as far as combing through while styling, 4 strands of hair in the comb. I remember having handfuls of hair after combing my hair.

Styling: I cheated once again with styling my hair. My sister did it for me. I have two strand twists. She used rubber bands to anchor them and Proclaim Aloe Gel on damp hair. I will try to wear them for a week and then try a twist out. I was happy with all my products carrying over from transitioning to natural.
