Dear Class
This year brought more changes for the Sergeants. I finished the development of the P.E.A.C.E. Plan for Saddleback Church and piloted the roll out for India. That was the most fruitful ministry I've ever done. There are lots of amazing stories to tell from that experience. I'm discovering that I am "wired" to create and initiate and model and get out of the way. I'm NOT "wired" to manage and maintain. At any rate, the Lord has very recently led us into an area I never would have anticipated: philanthropy. I have pretty much always considered money matters to be a necessary evil and aimed to minimize the amount of it I needed and the time spent dealing with it. I have now taken a position with the Maclellan Foundation and I'm gaining a whole new perspective on the role money can play in ministry. Maclellan focuses primarily overseas working to accelerate projects by indigenous ministries which are focused on church planting, evangelism, leadership development, and Scripture. They also provide strategic consultation and networking connections in addition to or in place of financial participation. This is a great fit for me since I still have the opportunity to do training and strategy consultation and am able to provide benefit from and for my far-flung co-workers and friends.
For now, the only contact information that has changed is my e-mail address. The plan is for us to depart Orange County for Chattanooga, TN in July 2008 after Nathan graduates from high school. He is planning to attend Samford University in Birmigham, AL. Our daughter Megan is currently a high school freshman and will move with us. Debie and both kids are doing well. Debie is managing our move so she will likely be a bit stressed during that process, but it will definitely keep her from being bored! Nathan has stabilized at my height for the past couple of years...I don't know if he will have one more growth spurt or not. Megan hasn't yet caught Debie in height, but she's already tall. Both kids are doing great in school. Nathan even won first place for speech in the state of California in the academic decathlon.
