GEMINI (the twins)

• As ruler of Gemini, Mercury instills in its subject a vivacity and a surplus of intellectual energy which will seek expression in a variety of ways.
• Longing for new interests and an inpatience for routine can, in the higher Geminian, lead to brilliant results in literature or in some artistic field, for the subject is happiest when in the process of expressing an essential part of himself in some activity. Once this has been achieved, he will rarely rest on his laurels but will begin the search for a new challenge.
• An interesting individual whose true function is to make life more interesting and beautiful for himself and for others, in an effort to stimulate and refresh their minds.
• Intellectual satifaction is a driving force, and should a new problem arise that at first is not readily understood, he will struggle with himself until understanding is reached.
• He craves for perfect expression and the desire to influence those around makes it impossible for him to suffer alone or in silence, he must make friends and when they misundertand him, the suffering often amounts to martyrdom. Any kind of sympathy is welcome at this point.
• Exhaltation accompanying achievement is generally followed by keen and critical inspection, for the Geminian male is the most introspective of men, ever circling around in the hopes that he may eventually come to know himself; an impossible task.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HIGHER FEMALE

• It is impossible to picture this female alone; she needs people about her, plus plenty of activity and movement, and she generally manages to find them.
• Men are drawn to her attractive and stimulating company for trying to hold her interest proves to be an irresistible challenge.
• She has all the virtues and shortcomings of the male counterpart, slightly softened, and is popular, gay, amusing, poised, and always on the lookout for something to discuss and criticise, but a tendency to gossip is strong leading to tense situations at times.
• In love, she is similar to Mr. Gemini, appearing to be fickle and a sore trial to her admirers, but she is generally ready to hear the other point of view - provided the other party concerned is able to get a word in, for Gemini is the sign of the talker.
• Sexually, both male and female enjoy the thrill of the chase and the mental stimulation this brings, probably more than the act itself. Their partners could have problems creating the necessary stimulation, but if well-matched, this subject can be loyal and sincere.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LOWER TYPE

• This male or female will drain those who come in contact with them, demanding sympathy, attention, consideration and time, believing this to be their right.
• The lower Geminian will take excessively in order to feed his ego and will consider anything that does not concern or affect him to be of no importance.
• The longing for joy and variety, as enjoyed by his higher companions, becomes in him restlessness and perpetual dissatisfaction.
• He will constantly demand novelty and excitement but will avoid uncongenial chores to obtain them.
• Routine work of any description is particularly resented and, if this is forced upon him, he will feel doomed and caged like an animal, for he genuinely considers himself to be above it.
• This individual needs to be in the center of things, where the spotlight falls, and thinks himself ill-used when compelled to take a back seat.
• Gemini is a double-sided sign that shows itself in the split personality of the higher type and in the homosexual tendencies of the lower.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

• A slender figure is normally associated with this sign, also agility of movement and small features.
• Eyes are often blue or grey, bright but not large, the complexion pale though easily tanned.
• Quick, unexpected movements and speech are typical and Geminians are mischievous, taking much delight in their ability to shock.
• Their nervous energy can carry them through most things, but it deserts them when a task becomes irksome or dull.
• Nervous exhaustion frequently follows their tremendous outbursts of activity, and health needs to be treated in much the same way as a child's, with above all plenty of sleep, fresh air, and a sensible diet. Once the Geminian recognizes this he or she will benefit immensely, but a degree of rebellion may be displayed against this advice due to immaturity, for this type may take longer than most to grow up and many never quite make it.
