Commander Leonard "Bones" McCoy, M.D. Chief Medical Officer, USS Enterprise Doctor McCoy served as the head of the medical staff on the USS Enterprise under Kirk's command. McCoy had great intelligence and wit, and a crabby attitude towards people like Spock; in fact, the two were often engaged in amusing debates and conversations. McCoy left Starfleet but was re-instated upon Kirk's demand and brought back onto the ship. He also fell victim to Spock's Vulcan mind meld and was forced to carry Spock's memories in his mind until Spock's resurrected body was recovered and his psyche restored. McCoy was arrested along with Kirk when they were suspected of attacking Klingon Chancellor Gorkon. The two endured the bitter cold of the penal colony on Rura Penthe before escaping and being rescued by the Enterprise. McCoy continued his long career with Starfleet, and managed to live on to see the launch of the Enterprise-D. images:
