Captain Hikaru Sulu Helm Officer, USS Enterprise Commanding Officer, USS Excelsior Born in San Francisco on Earth, Hikaru Sulu joined Starfleet and was assinged to the USS Enterprise under James Kirk's command for the ship's five-year mission. Lieutenant Sulu served as the Enterprise's helmsman and remained with the ship through her refit. Sulu disobeyed Starfleet orders when he helped Kirk steal the Enterprise to rescue Spock on the Genesis planet. When the Enterprise was destroyed and Kirk commandeered a Klingon bird-of-prey, Sulu had to learn to pilot the foreign ship. Before the Enterprise-A was commissioned, Sulu had hoped that he and his crewmembers would be assigned to the new USS Excelsior. Sulu's interest in the ship continued and eventually he was promoted to Captain and given the command of the Excelsior, which played a pivotal role in helping Kirk during the Khitomer conference. Sulu was also the first Captain that Tuvok had, decades before Tuvok's posting on the USS Voyager. Sulu has at least one child, Demora Sulu, who also joined Starfleet.
