Pele's League Week 4 Preview - September 20th There're now only two undefeated teams in Pele's League, as the Sao Paulo Hard Plays and the Sao Paulo 55ers have yet to lose this season. Let's check out Week 4 games: Randolph Blue Devils (0-3) vs. San Juan Coquis (1-2)
Randolph Blue Devils (0-3) vs. San Juan Coquis (1-2) The Blue Devils have the lowest point total in the league, as they've lost their first three games. They're hoping that WR's are the answer, as they have two very good ones in Herman Moore and Johnny Morton, both from the Detroit Lions. They now have a solid TE on 49ers Brent Jones, who played very well last week, and Packers' kicker Ryan Longwell. Their problem might be at RB, as Keith Byars hasn't been touching the ball too much for the Patriots, and Seattle's Chris Warren has shared his playing time with Lamar Smith. The San Juan Coquis are trying to get out of a little slump, as they've lost the last two after winning their season opener. They feature both Denver receivers, Ed McCaffrey and Rod Smith, and both have played well lately. But they need better production from QB Neil O'Donnell. Their running attack has also been struggling with Anthony Johnson and Thurman Thomas. Their key might be having a young and surprisingly good Tampa Bay defense, who can score some points for them.
Sao Paulo 55ers (3-0) vs. Sao Paulo Golpes Baixos (0-3) In this brazilian matchup, the undefeated 55ers will face the winningless Golpes Baixos, who lost last week to another Sao Paulo team, the CCM. Although the 55ers are the weakest of the undefeated teams, as they have only the fourth best point total of the league, they have a lot of confidence on RB's Natrone Means and Terrell Davis. They also got two good receivers, as the Bengals Carl Pickens is always a threat, and Packers Antonio Freeman appears to be getting out of his early struggle. The biggest question for the 55ers is at the Quarterback position. Steve Young gets the start after last week good performance, but he's always at the risk of being knocked out of a game, thus maybe lefting the 55ers with a man down. For the Golpes Baixos, the good news is the return of RB Eddie George, the team's best player along with QB Brett Favre. They also have a very good TE, New England's Ben Coates. Their problem seem to be at the wide outs, as Tony Martin and Isaac Bruce have been hampered with injuries, and their reserves aren't as good as them. This game may mark the start of a big rivalry.
Oporto Eagles (2-1) vs. Cortland, NY Gradams Greats (1-2) The Eagles rely on a very good QB-WR combination, as they'll start both Vinny Testaverde and Derrick Alexander from the Baltimore Ravens. The also have another great receiver on Minnesota Jake Reed. They'll have to do some good coaching this week, as starter RB Ricky Watters has a bye week, and must be substituted. The Gradams Greats are coming off a loss in Week 3, but they look forward to rebound, as they trust their RB's, Warrick Dunn and Dorsey Levens, can carry the load for them. Their problem is they don't have a very confident QB, as Steve McNair hasn't prove he is one for the big leagues. This should be a very tough matchup between this two teams. K Olindo Mare of the Gradams may have a huge impact in the final score, as the Dolphins attack can move but can't find the endzone. Field goals will be key.
Sao Paulo Hard Plays (3-0) vs. Ithaca Isolators (2-1) Now that the REAL G's finally slowed down, the team to beat is the Sao Paulo Hard Plays. And if anyone can do it, the Ithaca Isolators are certainly the team. They've won two straight, they've got the best point total in the league (2.5 more than the Hard Plays), so this is the biggest game of the week. The Hard Plays have been very hot lately, led by the running attack of Curtis Martin, and the consistent game play of QB Brad Johnson. Wesley Walls at TE gives them even more power, as does WR Robert Brooks. They can also rely on the kicking game, as Adam Vinatieri is one of the league's best. The Isolators trust in their "Raider" attack with QB Jeff George, RB Napoleon Kaufman, WR Tim Brown and TE Rickey Dudley, along with the Raiders Defense and Defensive Player Darrell Russell. But, they can also count on their other players, as they'll start WR Cris Carter of the Vikings and RB Lawrence Phillips of the Rams. This will probably be a very good game, with a lot of points and maybe a surprise result.
PIMP C's REAL G's (2-1) vs. Sao Paulo CCM (1-2) The CCM got their first win last week, and they're looking forward to continue this trend, but they'll face the always dangerous REAL G's, who lost for the first time this season last week. The REAL G's have a very powerful team, led by QB Drew Bledsoe, but they also have two good RB's in Tiki Barber and Raymont Harris. Their wideouts will be a key, as they both play for Jacksonville on Monday Night (Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell). They also have a very reliable kicker, Broncos' Jason Elam. The Sao Paulo team needs a good game by John Elway as he had last week, along with better production from RB Adrian Murrell. If this game comes down to kicking, we might have a very close decision, as the CCM has the always on target Al Del Greco from the Oilers.
