My earliest known ancestor
was Radulphus Waterhouse who was baptised at Tideswell on the 12th March,
1692.
The father of Radulphus was Benjamin Waterhouse of Hayfield.

Radulphus married Maria
Hallowes (
see link to Hallowes ) at Great Longstone on the 9th February,
1718.
They moved to Hope where the family were to remain for many years.
Radulphus was a land owner and he is believed to have been a farmer by
occupation.
Radulphus and Maria had ten known children, including two sets of twins
- a pattern which was to follow for many generations after:
Sarah - died as an infant
and twins
Abraham and Isaac - both died as infants
Jacob - died as an infant
Thomas 1728-1731
Rebecca married John Ashton in 1754
Benjamin lived to adulthood
and twins
Jonathan 1739-1777 and John born 1739 (my direct ancestor)
William
Radulphus died at Hope in 1757
