DEVELOPING...
A veteran of the war in the Pacific, during WWII, Jack Myers was a recipient of the Purple Heart. Day in and day out, Jack carried his meritorious award around with him, in the form of shrapnel, for the rest of his life.
In July of 2000, Jack entered the Veterans Home in Minneapolis, MN. Daily, Joan, his wife of 43 years reported cuts and bruises to the nurses and social worker on Unit 6, where he resided. Jack's stay at the home ended abruptly on Dec. 12, 2000, when a janitor found Jack being accosted by another patient, who sat on his chest, while staff members tried not to notice. Jack suffocated to death.
On Dec. 13, 2000, the Hennepin County Coroner, Dr. Berg, told Joan to expect a ruling of manslaughter due to negligence. Instead, Jack's death is listed as an accident and Joan fears that such a travesty of justice leaves others vulnerable to the same tragedy and heartache.
