Asuka Langely is one of the more animated characters of the series. The second child, Asuka is the exact opposite of the first child, the series morbid, Rei Ayanami. The two's differences cause a standing hate between Asuka and Rei. Well more or less Asuka hates Rei. Ayanami doesn't really care. Asuka is perhaps the most arrogant of the three pilots. She also appears to contain the most raw talent. Unfortunately, the soul that resides in EVA-02 is dormant for the entire series and only in the movies was about to come to life opposed to Shinji's EVA. Asuka uses her natural ability, with a little help from Shinji, Misato, and the Pacific fleet, to defeat the sixth, seventh, and eighth angels. Asuka has a MAJOR superiority complex and refuses to lose. After losing to the fourteenth angel she starts to mentally decay. After fifteenth angel, well... mentally raped her, Asuka was unable to even pilot the EVA and was replaced by Kaworu Nagisa. In the movies, Asuka defeats the Japanese Self-Defense Force and the EVA-05 series but is killed in action after they regenerated. Asuka's mother became criminally insane after a failed sync test with the EVA, pretending a doll was her daughter. When Asuka was picked to be a pilot she discovered her mother and the doll hanging from the ceiling. At the funeral she promised herself she would never cry again.
