Misato Katsuragi is the head of operations for NERV. Originally a Liuetenant, she was eventually promoted to Colonel, Katsuragi has, perhaps, the most stressful job on the planet. Wouldn't you if you were responsible for multi-billion dollar machines and the defense of mankind? Misato was never the same after surviving the Katsuragi Expedition, an expedition to shrink Adam to pupa size. Misato didn't speak for a number of years until going to college and befriending Ritsuko Akagi. While in college, she met a man by the name of Ryoji Kaji. Apparently they had a pretty wild relationship. Kaji returns, and though at first they have a rough relationship, the two grow close once again. Misato takes in Shinji and Asuka and becomes their legal guardian. In Genesis 0:13, we learn Misato has many problems although I choose not to really use that tape as a guide to the people. In the movie, she dies after saving Shinji. Misato was Shinji's friend, mother, lover, and sister all in one. She stands as the most tragic death of all that die in Evangelion.
