A few quick things I forgot yesterday...
1. When I came out of my room to say goodbye to my fam before I left,
they presented me with 8 batons of manioc for my new house, which are
neither fragrant, lightweight, nor small. Of course I took them, tho as
for when I'll finally finish them off...who knows. Hopefully pics of what
the batons look like will be posted soon-ish.
2. I also went out "en boite", or to a nite club, for the first
time about a week ago. I decided to go all out and wore eye shadow with
a bit of borrowed eyeliner. Nothing drastic and everyone commented on
how pretty I looked, even tho I was wearing my everyday clothes and reeked
of sweat. However, I felt like a wanton hussy, because I NEVER wear makeup
here and the sight of myself in the glass was a little unnerving after
2 months of letting all my feminine characteristics fall to the wayside.
Never realized just how much I looked/felt like a man. Charming.
3. I'm off to Ngouoni manana and most likely won't be back to Franceville
for 2 weeks or so, which means I won't be checking email till then. I'm
also phone-less, as you'll remember. Thus, just sit tight and I'll surface
again when/where possible.
4. I can now walk on my foot with no pain and hardly any limp, tho it
still swells to a grotesque size every evening from all the pressure I
put on it. Today was fun, however, since I ran around the market acquiring
more food...peanuts, African eggplant, plantains, potatoes, onions, random
jungle fruit, and piment (the spice of death). Should be an interesting
first few weeks!
Alright, I'm out. Thank you all again for staying in touch and sending
me supportive vibes. I will kick this country's booty yet, even if it
mangles mine in the process. Love to all!
