I just realized I have committed a grave error. It isn't a life and death thing, only one that should never be made by a parent. |
||
On the first page of my sound off site, I mentioned that I was taking Ian to West Point. That in itself is enough to be proud. But I have never told Ian that I was proud of him. |

When he was 10 years old I met his mom. Ian was a Webelos in my pack. I was the Cubmaster and I worked with the Webelos den, so I got to know Ian very well. This young man informed me, when he was 10, that he was going to be the President of the United States. Like all the prattle of 10 year old boys I told him good, just remember me when you get elected. As Ian grew older, he became a member of my Boy Scout Troop. We were a small Troop but we had some great older boys. Ian picked their brains in meetings and on outings. He still talks about Andy and Jarrod, God they were great boy leaders. As time went by, Ian became the older scout. He took pride in helping the younger Scouts advance. He set his sights on the highest rank the the Boy Scouts of America has to offer, Eagle Scout. It took allot of work but he attained that rank and then some. He earned over 100 merit badges and served as a mentor for younger Scouts at the Troop and Council levels. Parents would always be amazed when their boys came home talking about what Ian had to say. They were equally amazed when he would tell them that he was going to be the President. At first everyone looks at him and says yea right kid, but after you get to know him, you realize, he just might do it. I have never seen ANY teenage boy set goals and work them the way he does. He has been and continues to be a source of pride for me and his Mother. |

Ian, I am sorry I neglected to tell you how proud I am of everything that you have accomplished and the fine young man you are. In the summer of 2005, this retired NCO will be proud to salute you. Good Luck, Give 'em Hell |
