Am I an American or - What???? |
||
OK it's time to step on some toes. I am sorry if I offend you, but I have been offended by this latest trend and it is time to put a stop to it. Are you an American or not? Are you proud to live in the greatest country in the world? Then why do you have to hyphenate your heritage? I don't think it makes one bit of difference if you are an African-American, Spanish-American, Oriental-American or Martian-American, the important factor is that you are an AMERICAN. Isn't that enough to make you proud? As I was growing up in California, I heard the term SA, allot. It didn't mean anything to me at the time. It was just a term the Mexican population used when talking to each other. As I grew older, I found out that SA meant Spanish-American. OK that was no big deal. The Hispanics didn't make a big production out of it, and the anglos didn't either. |
||
As time has gone by, others have decided that if the Hispanics can be hyphenated, so can they. I just don't understand. What is the big deal? If you think you are special and you need something to set you apart from everyone else, do something special. Don't think that just because you have a different skin color, you are any better or any worse than anyone else. I have heard for years, I just want to be treated the same. Bullshit. When you are treated the same, you scream that you are getting unfair treatment. Drop the hyphen and grow up. |
||
One of our founding fathers,
George Washington talked about hyphenated titles. He stated that they would
degrade the citizenry and spirit of the American people. Over 225 years ago,
this great American had great insight. He said that a citizen of this country
was an American, period. No hyphen, no question. Wouldn't it be great if you
were to ask a group of people what nationality they were and they all said, "I
am an American". I am, I am proud of it and I have fought for it. This is a great country, and it will get greater. |
||
One of the biggest problems we have in this country is people like Jesse Jackson. Whatever he does is OK. It doesn't matter if he slams the same laws that he swears he is trying to uphold. It doesn't matter that he lies to the masses and commits adultery. It doesn't matter that he calls himself a Reverend and then sins against the bible and the Ten Commandments. The problem is people believe whatever trash spews out of his mouth. If you are looking for a spiritual leader, go to your local church. If it doesn't suit you, try another one. Listening to the ranting of a liar, cheat and bigot is not the way to get ahead. Listen to God and your heart. Be Proud of who you are and what you believe in. Don't be a sheep, be an individual. An individual that loves his/her God and country. |
