What is that Smell | |

| I guess the big thing to gripe about today is punishment. Everyday
we hear how kids are doing things they shouldn't and they are getting more
violent. Why? When I was growing up we didn't have a bunch of experts telling our parents how to raise us. If our parents told us not to do something, we had two choices, DON'T DO IT, or DO IT. |
||
| We all knew what would happen if we did it, but
sometimes it was worth it. Why did we know what would happen if we did
something wrong? Our parents told us what they would do, and they did it. If
dad told me I would get my rear end blistered, you better believe that is what
would happen. When mom made the same promise, it was a little scarier, she always seemed to take a little more before she went off, but when she did, we paid for it. Those beaded belts and moccasins were the worst. |
||
| But we learned the difference between right and
wrong. We learned that pain was real and it wasn't a game to inflict it on
other people. We learned that the laws were made to be obeyed. Where did this
laws were made to be broken come from? |
||
What has happened? |
||
| Has our government interfered to the point that
parents are afraid to discipline their children? I think many people use that as an excuse. I believe the majority of parents are to lazy to parent. If done properly, parenting is hard of work. Sometimes it is hard. Especially when we have to tell our children NO. Some parents today don't seem to have NO in their vocabulary, and their dear sweet monsters are the proof. I am no expert on child rearing, but I have raised 5 of the things. The first two I had to fight with their mom to punish them. You know, "You might harm them permanently". I guess the worthless female was afraid I didn't have the control to stop. Hell, if I was that mad, I would walk away and then the boys knew they were in trouble. I NEVER struck a child when I was angry. But when I calmed down, the punishment was taken care of. |
||
| I guess the whole thing can be summed up quickly.
Don't let someone else tell you what is right or wrong for your children. We
each know our children. The experts are guessing (some of them don't even have
kids). Try different things to get your kids attention, belt, 2 by 4 whatever
it takes. If you have one of those children that you can speak to and that
accomplishes the task, great. Unfortunately, most children have to be jolted
into listening. Once you tell your child what his/her punishment is going to be, make sure it happens. |
