DAY 12: MONDAY, AUGUST 29th
Sunny and all but cloudless. It rained a little early this morning. Brisk northwesterly wind. Up at seven. Breakfast 8:30,- oatmeal, creamed cod-fish with toast, coffee.
Paddled over to Ampersand Hotel at ten to inquire for mail. Two letters from Father, but none from P--. None for Fritz. Walked two miles over to Saranac Lake Village,- quite a town. Met "Vin" Dolan of the Argus, on the way over. Queer how one
unexpectedly runs into people in the most out-of-the-way places.
Fred got two letters at the village. We bought one roll of film (40), four postal cards (10), 4 stamps (4), can of chicken soup (10), 2 lb. sugar (7), 4 lemons (7),
chewing tobacco (for Fritz) (5), bottle of maple syrup (25). Left word at both places for mail to be forwarded to Tupper Lake Village,- our next stop.
