DAY 11: SUNDAY, AUGUST 28th
Cloudless sky and a brisk westerly wind. Arose at the extremely fashionable hour of nine a.m. and had breakfast while people were passing in a regular flotilla of boats on the way to the "Island
Church" just to the north of us. Breakfast, fried perch, Indian meal pancakes, and coffee. Cakes were very good, a welcome change from buckwheat.
Broke camp and pulled out at noon. Paddled two miles to the beginning of the Saranac River, where we found a quarter-mile carry we had not calculated on,- around a dam in the river. The carry is on the right as one approaches the
Saranac Club. Good road, though hilly. Took us half an hour, with our two trips to make.
