DAY 10: SATURDAY, AUGUST 27th (Continued)
Beautiful starlight night, but the moon is late. Voices are heard at a great distance here. A fellow singing early in the evening, half
a mile across the lake, and his words were distinctly audible. A stray pistol shot somewhere echoed and re-echoed like a clap of thunder.
Are feeling finely, save for slight colds which have clung to us since we started. Think
we shall return to the Raquette and thence to Tupper, via the Sweeney carry, after visiting Middle and Lower Saranac, and Ampersand post-office, where there ought to be a considerable accumulation
of mail for us,- or rather for Fritz.
Expect to go home Friday, but are not thinking very much about it as yet. Bed 10:20.
--Distance today,- 12 miles.
