DAY 4: SUNDAY, AUGUST 21st (Continued)
We arrived at Raquette Lake at five o'clock, and stopped at the post office for mail,- nothing doing. We bought a box of crackers and a loaf of bread (25c.) also two oranges
(10c) which tasted better than anything we've had yet.
We paddled down South Bay two miles and camped, in the thick woods on the east shore. Supper by candle-light, as usual,- corn, bread, and coffee.
I am racing with the stump of a candle, and think the candle wil win. A beautiful moon-light night, and Raquette is the finest yet, but we are too dead to bother the scenery much. Bed ten o'clock. Won't promise to be at Blue Mountain
in the morning,- will tell better when we wake up.
Distance today,- 14 miles.
