Although my Great-Grandfather was only 25 years old at the time, his writing reveals the mind of a quick-witted, ambitious, and practical man-- just beginning an adult life that would continue for another 66 years. Though I was born a year and a half after his death, Great-Grandpa's unique personality and
idealistic nature filter through the years via these journal entries and have come to endear themselves to my admittedly kindred spirit.
Great-Grandpa made several more canoe trips over the course of the next several years, and documented each of them in a series of individual journals, but this one appears to be the first, and as evidenced throughout later writings by the man himself, the most fondly remembered. Although problems were encountered and mistakes were made, Great-Grandpa always seemed to end up comparing all other future recreational jaunts (favorably or unfavorably) to this one. I hope all who read and view enjoy!!!
