GUN CONTROL:
The theory that a woman found dead in an alley, raped and strangled with her panty hose, is somehow morally superior to a woman explaining to police how her attacker got that fatal bullet wound.

For Those that 'Don't' Support the U.S. in Iraq, Read This and Think
What emerged was something so awful that it is difficult even now to write about it. Discussing with the head of our tribe what I should do as I wanted to stay in Baghdad with our people during their time of trial I was told that I could most help the Assyrian cause by going out and telling the story to the outside world. Simply put, those living in Iraq, the common, regular people are in a living nightmare. From the terror that would come across the faces of my family at a unknown visitor, telephone call, knock at the door I began to realize the horror they lived with every day.  Over and over I questioned them `Why could you want war? Why could any human being desire war?` They're answer was quiet and measured. `Look at our lives!`We are living like animals. No food, no car, no telephone, no job and most of all no hope.`(In my opinion, our government has chosen a 'shameful' approach to this conflict. To abandon our greatest friend and protector, in favour of some 'flowerpower' approach in trying to relate what might be politically correct in our world to the suffering of the Iraqi people at the hands of 'their' dictator is simply WRONG. The sooner we have a 'Regime Change' here, the better!)
U.K. Gun amnesty 'will help cut crime'
The national firearms amnesty to help rid the streets of illegal guns – first reported by The Independent – runs until 30 April. The move precedes the introduction of tougher sentences for illegal possession of prohibited firearms – a minimum five-year jail term for those convicted. Every police station will accept the weapons. Police chiefs called the first amnesty in seven years amid growing concern that gun crime is becoming commonplace in many cities. During the last amnesty, which  followed the school massacre at Dunblane in Scotland, 23,000 firearms and 700,000  rounds of ammunition were surrendered.(They weren't "surrendered" they were stolen/confiscated by the government, under penalty of imprisonment. In a country that throws citizens in jail for 'defending' themselves, a gun could be useless anyway. Once your DEAD you don't need one.. The U.K. 'is' the safest place for criminals, no wonder they 'flock' there )
And the "Culture of Safety" Continues
A 16-year-old black man from Ottawa South was apprehended after the robbery. Police say items related to the Friday swarmings were found on him. He was charged with four counts of robbery, one count of use of a firearm while committing an indictable offence, four counts of breach of undertaking and obstructing police. Police are looking for 15 black men and one white man, 17 to 20, for the swarming of the girls. Meanwhile, about 9:20 last night, three black men with guns and a hatchett robbed a video store at 1787 Kilborn Ave. After taking video games, they robbed a man of his wallet and his car. And at 10:10 p.m. two masked black men with guns held up a Harvey's restaurant at Bank Street and Hunt Club Road.(Mabe if Ottawa starts to look like Toronto, their police Chief might decide the Gun Registry is pretty useless as well.. Nawww, but I do think the Ottawa Police Chief is in for a rude awakening if he ever crawls out of the Liberal backpocket)
Awards for waste go to Chrétien, gun registry
OTTAWA - Prime Minister Jean Chrétien andd the federal gun registry were the two big winners in the fifth annual Teddies, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation announced Monday. It gives the awards to civil servants, politicians and government agencies it feels has squandered public funds, overtaxed, excessively regulated, shown a lack of accountability or any combination of those. (Chrétien's) legacy of public debt, record spending and a visible contempt for parliamentary democracy earn our prime minister the 2003 lifetime achievement Teddy," said a tuxedo-clad Walter Robinson, the federation's director. The gun registry won for costing more than 430 times its original estimate. Provincially and municipally, the city of Winnipeg won for spending $1 million on a toilet for a footbridge as part of a $5-million urban facelift project. (I could also see the Liberals spending a Million on a Toilet. After all, they 'do' need it!)

BOWLING FOR COLUMBINE Documentary or Fiction?
Bowling makes its points by deceiving and by misleading the viewer. Statements are made which are false. Moore invites the reader to draw inferences which he must have known were wrong. Indeed, even speeches shown on screen are heavily edited, so that sentences are assembled in the speaker's voice, but which he never uttered. These occur with such frequency and seriousness as to rule out unintentional error. Any polite description would be inadequate,so let me be blunt. Bowling uses deliberate deception as its primary tool of persuasion and effect. Serious charges require serious evidence. The point is not that Bowling is unfair, or that its conclusions are incorrect. No, the point is that Bowling is deliberately, seriously, and consistently deceptive. A viewer cannot count upon any aspect of it, even when the viewer believes he is seeing video of an event occurring or a person speaking. Words are cheap. Let's look at the evidence.(The Oscar for this edited crap, only degrades the award below the gilded fraud it already is!  Michael Moore, is the Michael Bellesile of the film industry, and it's coming back to haunt him. This link shows Moore for what he actually is, A Liar and distorter of the truth. This 'sham' of a 'documentary(?) is as phoney as Bellesile's "Arming of America" fraud. Which only shows, the ignorant are quick to heap rewards on what they 'want' to believe, regardless of the truth.)
The party goes on
Liberal machinations to keep useless gun registry afloat defy laws of common sense
In the world of business, such egregious policy and financial mismanagement could only result in one thing: Plummeting share values and the immediate removal of anyone associated with the project. That’s in the real world, of course. In the world of federal Liberal politics, where all money is Monopoly money rather than shareholders’ money, such embarrassing results are almost always rewarded. Those responsible are shuffled to other plum assignments, more money is found to keep the failed project on life support, critics are labeled traitors and life goes on much as before. (The Liberal Party, and all those supporting this farce, are a fine Canadian Example of  "The Blind Leading The Stupid".. And, their in power because Ontario put them there. I sure hope Ontario voters have a long memory when next they visit the polls. The Ontario Liberals are now up in the polls, because Ontarians don't remember just how bad they were the last time they ran the government into the ground! How Bad were they? Hell, they were so bad, we actually replaced them with the NDP! And THAT'S Bad!!)
Anti-gun group questions concealed carry research
COLUMBUS -- Gun control advocates on Wednesday criticized the credibility of a leading firearms researcher and said lawmakers have relied too much on his flawed work in their push for concealed weapons licenses in Ohio. But the expert, author John Lott, maintains his research is valid, and supporters insist the concealed weapons concept has more justification than just those figures. Lott, who wrote "More Guns, Less Crime" and "The Bias Against Guns," testified before state officials twice last year, advocating for concealed-carry legislation using his own findings that wider gun ownership leads to safer communities. Bill sponsor Rep. Jim Aslanides, R-Coshocton, said Lott's research has little bearing on the state's need for responsible and fair concealed weapons legislation. "For (this version of the bill) I've never used John Lott to prove results, and I don't need it," he said. "The heart of concealed-carry is its success in other states." Gravas echoed those sentiments. "We don't argue the reason we should go forward is because of John Lott," he said. "We argue that in 34 states this hasn't caused problems, and it can be implemented safely." (Well, it's highly unlikely you could find an "Anti gun group" anywhere that would argue 'for' concealed carry, it not what they do! What they do, is try to twist as many facts as they can to validate their phobia! When you have 43 states enacting 'concealed carry', and the crime rate DROPS in ALL 34 states, YOU HAVE SOMETHING THAT WORKS! And only an IDIOT, or someone suffering from an acute phobia, would argue otherwise!)
The Manitoba NDP Government 'Lied' to get Elected?
(Canoe Link: Will Vanish in 24hrs or less)
We haven't received any correspondence from the government of Manitoba indicating that they were not prepared to prosecute firearms related offences under the Criminal Code," said Patrick Charette, a spokesman for the federal Department of Justice. "And there are no arrangements to seek or receive reimbursement for prosecuting those kind of offences."  Uh-oh. The Doer government has publicly railed against the federal Liberals' beleaguered gun-registration scheme, demanding that it be repealed. They vowed during the 1999 election that they would not enforce it if they formed government. The move was seen as a strategy to bolster support in rural Manitoba, where the gun law has received its greatest backlash. Once in government, Justice Minister Gord Mackintosh announced he would not enforce Ottawa's gun registration laws. He also said he would fire off a bill to Ottawa for any administrative costs related to gun registration incurred by Manitoba Justice. It's pretty obvious the Doer government never did plan to opt out of Canada's gun control laws. (Hmmm an ultra left wing party, that LIED about supporting a very right wing stance, to get elected! Who would have thought? Did you know, historically the word 'Left" also means "Sinister")
Do the math on gun registry
The truly alarming part is how federal politicians and big-ego media sages continue to equate a gun registry with gun control. Canada had very strict, and very cost-effective, gun control before this registry business ever came along - something that most Canadians seem unaware of since they have never owned a gun and have no interest in using one. These are the people who have long wondered, and rightly so, what is the big deal about registering a gun. Well, the answer stares us in the face: $2 billion to maintain a list of gun owners and the firearms they own, but which doesn't include the firearms they've chosen not to register, and doesn't include illegal guns, and doesn't check out the backgrounds of those registering the guns unless they are already in the system as a red flag. What use is that? What good is that to a police officer? (I bought my first handgun in 1967. After I filled out an application for a 'carry permit' to buy a used gun from a fellow club member, I was visited in my home by two 'plain clothed' police officers who talked with me, and no doubt also had a close look at my home environment, asked me questions like 'why do I want a handgun', do I have a safe place to store it, and where would that be? does anyone in your home object to you owning a handgun? What type of  calibre of gun  will you be getting ..etc.. etc..etc.. When I finally decided to get a FAC in the early 90's, a firearms officer from our local police force came to my home and interviewed me, I filled out the application, and over the next week, he called every single person I used as a reference to make sure they had no objections. Compare THAT with what happens now! You fill out a form, and send it away with a cheque for $80.00 If you are a criminal, and simply have not been caught yet, and don't show up as a 'red flag' on the computer, you get your gun licence. Oh Ya!! I see a big improvement in safety here!)
Democratic Disaster Zone. Does this sound like your Canada?(From the NFA)
The leader of this country, rants, raves and actually makes a member of his caucus break into tears. Her wrongful act? She had the audacity to actually question a government program that was supposed to cost $2 million dollars, but has now cost over five hundred times over the original promise.Rather than try to answer her questions, the leader of this country declared that any member of his party who voted against this bill would be expelled from caucus. The leader would refuse to sign their nomination papers - preventing their re-election -- if their actions forced a federal election.(Jim Hinter hits the nail right on the head with his message. The public interpretation: 'Vote the way I say, or I'll fire you', is not 'that' much different from 'Vote the way I say or I'll have you shot'. Obviously 'one' is far more drastic than the other, but the result is basically the same! Your political career is immediately over! When the leader of a party DEMANDS that you 'vote' the way you are told to vote, if for no other reason than to go through some of the motions of a 'real' democracy, then what's the point of having votes in the first place? Your leader has just proven himself  not to be your 'leader', but rather a 'dictator' that rules the same way as any other dictator, and that's by direct threats to your future political existence. If there EVER was a reason for a complete overhaul of our political system, this is it! The 'Government' may support C68, but if the people don't, then it should be scrapped. Unless of course the 'government' is no longer 'the people'. Many of our politician have just sold their political souls, and will suffer a fate worse than Sadam Chrétien can administer. The Canadian voter's memory is not as short as you think it is!)
At Least 23 Liberal MP's Still Have Their Integrity
In total, 23 of the Liberal MPs did not vote on the motion. Five of those MPs were paired off with Bloc Quebecois MPs, and not allowed to vote even if they were there. Pairing occurs when an MP is away on official business and a member on the other side deliberately doesn’t vote to even up the numbers. According to reports, three Liberal MPs sat in the House but did not stand to vote. Two of those MPs, Paul Steckle and Rose Marie Ur, both from rural Ontario, stood up afterward and made a point of noting on the record they were in the House but did not vote. That left Bagnell and 14 other Liberal MPs who missed the vote. It’s not clear how many were deliberately boycotting the vote.(These 23 Liberals may have just saved a shred of their political future. The rest of them, particularly the ones in the north, have shown their constituents who their 'really' looking out for! They will be remembered as just more pigs at the trough come voting day!)
Ottawa hid call for armed border guards: union
Customs officers say expert's advice deleted from report
Customs officers are accusing the federal government of suppressing an independent expert's advice that Canada needs armed guards at many border points to cope with the threat of terrorism and other crime. A customs official confirmed yesterday the recommendation was removed from the final draft of a risk-analysis report commissioned by the department, saying the government is against having a separate police force at the Canada-U.S. frontier. Elinor Caplan, the Customs and Revenue Minister, last month cited the final version of the report as justification for continuing to deny guns to customs officers.(In another report, she literally insulted thousand of border guards by saying that "giving guns to customs officers would be like giving
3,000 accidents an opportunity to happen." Members of this government's baseless paranoia regarding firearms is endangering ALL Canadians, not just those that do inspections at the border. Personally, I think it's because they feel that once they have turned a our previously proud nation, into a disarmed bunch of wimps, there would be no point in anyone attacking us. Besides,  they can always 'freeload' on the Americans for our security, and use our tax dollars to fund all their feelgood projects and ambitions aimed at turning us all into the Liberal subservience that 'their utopia' demands.)
Jean - Jean And His Threatening Regime
-With approval from the House of Commons, the money bill then went on to the Senate, where it appears it will face another hurdle. Saskatchewan Liberal Senator Herbert Sparrow, who with 35 years is the dean of the Senate, said he plans to vote against the gun registry money request when it comes to a vote in the Senate this week. At least one other Liberal senator, Anne Cools, is also pledging to do the same. Mr. Sparrow said while it is unlikely the Senate will defeat the bill, he wishes to express his opposition to the gun registry, despite the possibility he could be expelled from caucus.''It's just bad, bad news. The whole concept of the gun control has just gone wild,'' he said. ''The amount of dollars involved is just so outlandish that the stop has to be made and if it isn't made, we'll be faced with another billion dollars. There's no question about that and so I just say, you've got to fight it now.'' Senate insiders were at a loss yesterday to recall a previous occasion when senators have attempted to reduce a spending bill.John Williams, a Canadian Alliance MP and chair of the Commons public accounts committee, encouraged the Senate to stand up to the government.''Kudos to the Senate, we've been waiting for them to wake up for many, many years,'' he said. ''Because the Prime Minister has used the heavy hand on his caucus to prevent them speaking freely, I'm glad that somebody is taking the courage to stand up and be counted and say 'This Prime Minister cannot get away with anything.' Dictatorships belong in Iraq, they don't belong in Canada.''(This will stall for a while in the Senate, and then a new round of threats will emanate from Sadam Chrétien, and they start all over again when the Liberal pigs head back to the trough for another 112 MILLION DOLLARS - $112,000,000.00 , That's enough money tto pay the salaries of 500 first class police constables in the city of Toronto for the next 5 years.  Or , 26 NEW  MRI Machines at a multitude of hospitals across the country. As a matter of fact, the 59 million MORE they just threw away last night would have bought and installed 14 MRI's ,or hired  and paid the salaries of 181 new police constables  for more than 5 years. But NOoooo, the Liberals don't have the guts to do what's right. Chrétien is truly a 'useless', ineffective leader, that can only govern by threats and coercion. Sadly, unless the Governor General steps in, and declares him incompetent, we will have to endure his dictatorship for another year! As such, Canadians will continue to suffer, until WE have a regime change as well!!)
Residents living in fear
She creeps up to the front door and peers through the curtain, but won't open the door. Neighbours say the 93-year-old woman is so traumatized by what happened in her home that she's afraid to continue living alone. They say the fiercely independent woman is planning to move and giving up her precious garden. Around 6 a.m. last Friday, an intruder forced his way into her Leinster Street home as she slept. He demanded money, slapped her and threatened her. Police say the same intruder has broken into at least eight homes in central-east Hamilton since mid-March. The fact that he's preying on people in their homes has police concerned, and residents living in fear. "This individual is obviously willing to confront people in their homes," said Detective Constable Wil Mason, part of a team of five Hamilton police officers working to find the intruder."It indicates there's a potential there for violence. We're concerned that if this continues, sooner or later, by accident or bad luck, it will escalate."(Unfortunately, the chance of this intruder running into a ARMED homeowner is pretty small, and our government has done everything it possibly can to protect this intruder. The law says you can remove a firearm from storage for any reason, even to sit and admire it! Your home is also a place where a firearm can be legally discharged in the defence of your life or the life of another, so I'm no lawyer, but I see no reason why I cannot remove my firearm from storage, and admire it on my night table. If this type of criminal wishes to leave MY home with a small item, I will be glad to accommodate him, particularly if it's dark, and he looks armed. The small item? about 170 gr. of pure lead..  I WILL get charged, but I will also be alive.  When this "escalates" it may happen at YOUR house! As I've said before, "It's ALWAYS better to be judged by 12 than carried by six". There is NO REASON ANYONE should have to live in fear. Unlock - Load - Dial 911 -
IN THAT ORDER.)
Liberals confident in gun vote
New report shows registry could cost $1-billion more
OTTAWA - The national chairman of the Liberal caucus declared there is no risk the government will lose today's vote to give the controversial gun registry another $59-million. The apparent support comes despite a new Library of Parliament report that estimates enforcing the new firearms laws could cost another $1-billion in costs such as legal aid and correctional services, expenses not considered in the Auditor-General's estimate that the program will have cost $1-billion by 2005. The Department of Justice has reported 1.1 million Canadians have yet to comply fully with the new firearms legislation, yet the library paper said convicting 100,000 people under the new Criminal Code provisions would cost as much as $982-million. Since the new licensing laws came into effect in 2001 and the registration became law on Jan. 1, 2003, only a handful of people have been charged. Anti-registry advocates have pledged a major legal offensive to defeat the laws in court. Bob Wood (Nipissing, Ont.), who was one of the few MPs to vote against the original firearms legislation in 1995, said yesterday he will support the government.''I think we're just in too far, I mean, you get in so far and then you can't get out and I don't think we can leave it just the way it is,'' he said. ''We have to see it through to the end. It's a disaster, but we still have to do it.''(The ONLY reason this government wants to keep this "disaster" afloat, is to prevent embarrassment to the P.M. for getting into this mess in the first place. Voting YES to this waste will just drive another nail into the Liberal coffin, and assure Canadians that YES, our government is actually THAT stupid. Something to consider while a loved one is waiting 3 months for a MRI. But NO, the liberals think that protecting you from duck hunters, and target shooters is a far far better way to spend ONE BILLION DOLLARS! It's also unfortunate that NOW, even more money will have to be spent fighting this flawed legislation in the courts. The 'first' thing to go will be the 'firearms licence', and the NFA has already had some success with that avenue. I have said all I can say at this point. A vote cast under threats and coercion is not a vote in a free democratic society.  It's the methods used by a corrupt government in enforcing 'their' rule on the 'subjects' of that society. We will see today, just how far this corrupt government is willing to go to enforce it's will, and continue to rule by threats.  They, once again, show complete disdain for accountability while plundering the public purse. Today, they will have exceeded the arrogance of the Trudeau Liberals, and will truly consider this a 'win'. Call an election, and these wasteful bastards will know the REAL meaning of "Shock and Awe" )
Don't back off gun registry, police(association 'LOBBY')urge's
Suspending or dismantling Canada's controversial gun registry would be irresponsible, despite massive cost overruns, the head of the Canadian Police Association said on Tuesday. "It would be irresponsible to suspend or abandon any element of this program, now that it is starting to deliver the intended results," the association's executive officer, David Griffin, told a news conference in Ottawa. The association represents 28,000 rank-and-file police officers across Canada. Mr. Griffin said that under the much-criticized federal gun registry program, about 90 per cent of gun owners have been licensed and at least 70 per cent of all estimated firearms in Canada have been registered.(Since this sham of a 'registry' has met NONE of the original demand of this so-called police association, and yet continues to be supported by them. Perhaps they have have become so politically motivated,  they have lost the right to represent anybody! Here is what the Police on the street ACTUALLY SAY

Bureaucratic secrecy leaves public in dark
Information flow in 'grave jeopardy,' federal watchdog warns MPs
Mr. Reid tied the shoddy record of information management in some government departments to past allegations of questionable practices made by Auditor General Sheila Fraser. In the course of criticizing the Liberal government over its handling of government sponsorship contracts and the federal gun registry, Ms. Fraser has also spoken out about poor bureaucratic record-keeping. Despite warnings to public servants they must improve in such areas, federal officials are avoiding creating records, Mr. Reid said. Under the spectre of financial penalty or imprisonment for destroying or falsifying records, he added, officials are encouraged to make oral briefings or exchange information by e-mail to avoid creating permanent, written records. (After doing as much as possible, and still failing to scuttle the Access to Information act, the Liberals now use the theory, 'If it's not written down or recorded, you can't be charged with an offence' What a wonderful democracy(?) Chrétien and his henchmen have provided for Canada! A government that claims it's honest, because 'no one' has been charged with anything.)
Gun registry could cost $2-billion, critics warn
Ottawa — As members of Parliament prepare to vote on Tuesday on a bill to let the government spend another $59-million on the national gun registry,  critics are warning that the program's costs could reach as much as $2-billion during the next 10 years. Canadian Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz said on Monday that a Library of Parliament research paper suggests the cost of enforcing the Firearms Act could easily top an additional $1-billion — on top of the estimated $1-billion the Auditor-General has warned the registry could cost to implement within five years. The Canadian Taxpayers Federation lobby group has released its own cost estimates for the registry. It projects implementing the act alone could cost $2-billion by 2012. Federation president Walter Robinson calls the cost overrun "Enron accounting of gigantic proportions" and is urging backbench Liberals to vote down the request for another $59-million.(This is no longer about 'gun control' which was working fine until the Liberals had a 'better' idea, but rather 'Government control' which has been running roughshod over taxpayers and their MP's alike.. What kind of 'democracy' is it, when the Prime Minister can ORDER MP's to vote his way "or else" What kind of Democracy is it when the public is ignored for the dubious 'agenda' of the party in power. Do you think the Liberals should be trusted with a blank cheque? I didn't think so!)
Neville delivers bottom line on gun costs
On two successive days, Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz (Yorkton-Melville, Sask.), his party's firearms and property rights critic, nearly turned blue in the face during Member's Statements when calling on Treasury Board President Lucienne Robillard (Westmount-Ville-Marie, Que.) to give him the complete figures. But the full accounting Mr. Breitkreuz (Yorkton-Melville, Sask.) has so desperately been searching actually turned up in Parliament last week. "If you add those figures, you should have a total of $688.267 million by the end of 2001-02. "Moving into the current fiscal year in the main estimates, the rounded out number is approximately $35-million for 2002-03. There was nothing in supplementary estimates(A) and, in supplementary estimates(B), the rounded figure is $59-million. That would give us $95-million for the current year, give or take some, for $783-million planned expenditures by the end of 2002-03." (Well Gee!! That's 'only' 391 times more than the TOTAL they said it would cost, with NO end in sight! That figure does not allow for the staggering loss to the economy in the retail, tourism, and hospitality sectors alone. Perhaps when the Americans are finished with Iraq, they could help us with a regime change here!)
Moore the Boor Presented with Skinny, Gold, Baldman for Best Crockumentary
Moore brought the other  nominees from the category to the stage, explaining they were united in their love for “non-fiction.” He then went on to describe George W. Bush as “a fictitious president” and the events in Iraq as “a fictitious war.” Host Steve Martin poked fun at Moore’s political stance later, saying: “It’s so sweet backstage — the Teamsters are helping Michael Moore into the trunk of his limo.”(A shameful display of political grandstanding! In a film that's basically entertaining, Michael Moore has never let the 'facts' get in the way of any 'documentary(?)'.  This man truly knows what fiction is, and all of  his books and films play very well to the ignorant. Appropriately, the loudest applause came after Steve Martins comment.)
YOU WILL DO AS I SAY… or ELSE! (NFA Newswire)
The only person more determined than a Liberal with a good idea is a Liberal with a bad one, particularly one that has been revealed to all as utterly without merit. To admit error would be to admit fallibility. And more even than the Pope, a Liberal prime minister is convinced of his own infallibility. So the more colossal the screw-up, the more lavish the defence of it must be. Wednesday, the Liberals sent a four-part series of talking points to all their MPs and Senators with their typical distortions, half-truths and spin on the registry: They claimed it is increasing public safety (although gun crime is up), support for it is widespread (not anymore), opponents are spreading myths about the registry (like the government's myth that it would only cost $2 million?) and the action is being taken to improve operations (for instance, promoting the last head of the registry to an even more senior post in the Justice department). (I know this is hard to believe, BUT  'FEARLESS LEADER JEAN' IS LYING TO YOU. Are you one of Chrétien's 'mindless rubber stamps' or do you TRULY represent your constituents. VOTE 'NO'  ON THE 25th, OR STAY HOME "IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO")
Did you Ever Wonder Why:
Toronto beaches are closed for most of the summer? Why your kids can't run and play in the Parks without sliding through fields of Goose Crap? Why ponds and small water bodies in Southern Ontario are becoming more and more polluted every year? Why THOUSANDS, and THOUSANDS of geese are literally taking over open spaces all over the country and have been declared a pest by major cities in Canada AND the U.S.A.? It all started in 1977 with 'Feel Good' gun control policies to combat problems that never existed in the first place. From a national HIGH of 524,946 migratory bird hunting permits issued in 1978 to a current low of 181,261 issued in 2001, the by-product of  government gun control policies have virtually eliminated goose hunting in Canada.  Ontario 'alone' dropped from 159,698 permits in 1978 to a paltry 58,458 in 2001, thats a decrease of over 100,000 hunters. The loss to the economy is staggering! Hunting Licences and bird permits, firearms, ammunition, accessories, clothing, accommodations, transportation, food, entertainment, gasoline, oil, repairs, ALL lost over the past 25 years, along with the cost of cleanups, and airport goose control, the  makes the Billion wasted on this current round of useless 'feel good' gun control legislation look like a drop in the bucket. Call your MP TODAY and tell him or her, that if their too intimidated by Chrétien's un-democratic demands to vote YES to this ongoing waste on the 25th, then do your constituents a favour and show them your a 'individual, and responsible MP'  STAY HOME and don't vote at all. They'll thank you for it.)
Government Numbers, and 'Other' Quirks of Nature!!
Question No. 112-- Garry Breitkreuz: With respect to the May, 1976 Peace and Security paper distributed by Justice Minister Ron Basford and with reference to the statement on page 41: “At the same time, there has been a steady increase in the number of firearms in Canada. Estimates place the number at over ten million in 1974, with almost one-quarter million added to the stock every year. Most of these firearms are long guns (rifles and shotguns)”, what evidence did the department use to produce these estimates, and based on this evidence, how many firearms are there in Canada today? Government Answer: In the fall of 2001, GPC Research contacted 21,650 Canadians, achieving a sample size of over 3,000 firearm owners. Based on the results of this study, the number of firearms in Canada was estimated at 7.9 million. The study also confirms that there has been a consolidation in firearm ownership. It shows that the top 3% of firearm owners hold more than one third of all handguns in the country and approximately 15% of all firearms or, on average, 15.5 firearms per owner. For the remainder of the firearm-owning population, the mean number of firearms owned is 2.74. This survey has a margin of error of ±2.06% at the national level, with a 95% confidence level. .(Now, I never studied statistics and their related manipulation for desired results like our government bureaucrats have, but: If  a survey of 21,650 Canadians resulted in 3000 gun owners, that's 13.856%. Canada's population is roughly 30 million, so it would be safe to say that 13.856% of Canadians have been identified by the government as gun owners, or 4,156,800 gun owners. They say the 'top' 3% (124,707) own 15.5 guns each, or 1,932,912 guns. The 'other' 97% (4,032,096) own 2.75 guns each or 11,088,264 guns PLUS the guns of the 'top' 3% = 11,088,264 + 1,932,912 =13,021,176 Guns in Canada!!! Now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt, and 'subtract' the 2.06% error rate, and it still equals 12,752,940 Guns.. It just leaves you wondering how they came to a 'rehashed' figure 7.9 million guns? Where the hell did 4,852,940 guns go, as well as the average number of 250,000 'new' ones added to the stock in 2002? But, alas, perhaps the discrepancy lay with 'my' figures and simple math, and NOT with the 'Rubber Slide Rule' used by the Liberal Bureaucrats, and Spin Doctors! But then again, I've never been 500% wrong before!)
Vote against gun registry at own risk, PM warns MPs
Some Liberal MPs criticized the Prime Minister yesterday for making the new vote a matter of confidence, arguing it reinforces the notion  MPs are only "rubber stamps" unable to influence the workings of  government. Central Ontario MP Paul Steckle said he will vote against the government on Tuesday, but expressed frustration with the way the government is interpreting the backbench dissent. Mr. Steckle argued his vote will be a show of non-confidence in Martin Cauchon, the Justice Minister, for mishandling the file, not in the Liberal government. Mr. Steckle also predicted his Liberal colleagues are in for a rough ride at home should they approve the $59-million request. "Obviously when you're among your family of colleagues it's pretty easy to stand together, but it's when you have to go back home and face the electorate on a one-to-one basis and when you get called to a meeting where there's maybe 400 people and they take a different view than you do, it's pretty hard to win elections when the people are against you in a crowd like that," he said.(Not voting this down will PROVE that parliament is virtually impotent, and exists ONLY to "Rubber Stamp" the wishes of the elite, regardless of how wasteful they are. Voting to waste millions and millions of 'more' taxpayer dollars on a system of proven worthlessness will be political suicide. Those that do, will feel the wrath of the electorate. Your damn right it's going to be "pretty hard to win elections when the people are against you in a crowd like that," Remember: Chrétien is on his way out, and does not give a rats ass what kind of pressure you will face at home, as long as HE gets what HE wants! THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE, THE POLITICAL FUTURE YOU SAVE MAY VARY WELL BE YOUR OWN!)
Threat of expulsion reduces MP to tears
Tears running down her cheeks, Mrs. Ur told her caucus colleagues about an emotional telephone call from the Prime Minister several years ago. She related how he had taken the time to call after her husband, Louis, had been felled by a stroke. Mr. Chrétien, she said, told her husband that he had "a very good wife" and that one of her qualities is that she is"independent-minded." Mrs. Ur told the Prime Minister yesterday that she hopes he will keep that in mind on Tuesday. The implication  was that she would not support the estimate request, by voting against it or not showing up for the vote. An MP called the incident "disturbing." "He [Mr. Chrétien] reduces members to crying and pleading for their rights. There were lots of teary eyes in the room, too, because it's painful to watch that." About 10 other MPs spoke of their concerns about the registry. But Mr. Chrétien remained unmoved: "I just want everybody to know this is a vote of confidence. So act accordingly," he said, according to insiders.(Here is a sad excuse for a leader! There has NEVER been a better time for a caucus revolt than now. Chrétien can't fire everyone, and he wont be running in the next election to feel the wrath YOUR going to feel next time around. Your 'leader' has nothing to lose, but YOU DO!)
Chrétien Threatens MPs: 'Be Mindless Voting Machines or Else'
Prime Minister Jean Chretien had no comment after the caucus meeting, but  MP John Harvard said it was made clear to members behind closed doors that the registry must continue to operate. Harvard said there were no threats, but MPs can figure out on their own that if  they vote against the government on a key money matter "there could be possible consequences." (Voting FOR this, will only prove the Liberal MPs do not support the voter, but are simply mindless automatons for the Prime Minister and represent ONLY his views, regardless of the cost to taxpayers and the lack of value for those funds. Voting 'yes' to keep throwing millions and millions of tax dollars into this black hole of worthlessness, will show the good people that voted you into office just WHO you really represent. So, grow a backbone and remember, he can't fire eveyone can he?)
Link #1 PM to warn MPs to vote for gun-registry funding
Prime Minister Jean Chretien appears headed for a dual with his caucus over a controversial vote requesting more money for the embattled gun registry. The PM is expected to tell his caucus on Wednesday that the vote on whether to grant $59 million in funding for the program is a vote of confidence, according to The Globe and Mail. The newspaper reports that Chretien will warn government MPs that anyone voting against the funding could face disciplinary action, including removal from caucus. On Tuesday, Solicitor General Wayne Easter told reporters that the vote would be one of confidence, saying: "Of course estimates are a vote of confidence." The Globe says only a handful of Liberal MPs are expected to oppose the motion when it goes to a vote on March 25, and it will most likely pass. "We believe that the question of granting the minister more money for this program has now become a moral question and is reaching a moral crisis, perhaps even reaching a constitutional crisis," the letter said. The letter was also signed by Senator Herb Sparrow and Liberal MPs John Efford, Joe Comuzzi and Lawrence O'Brien. Resonsibility for the over-budget program will be shifted from Martin Cauchon and the Department of Justice to Easter starting April 1. Link #2 Liberal rebels fight funding of gun registry The six MPs and senators who urged the caucus to oppose the spending estimates said it is "unconscionable" for Justice Minister Martin Cauchon, who has responsibility for the program until April 1, to ask Parliament for more money in the wake of Ms. Fraser's scathing report. They said the government has not shown it has brought spending under control and repeatedly refuses to say how much the program will eventually cost. Liberal MPs on the Commons finance committee rejected a Canadian Alliance motion yesterday that the committee hold a special meeting to probe spending estimates for the gun registry, despite Treasury Board President Lucienne Robillard's statement the previous day that MPs have failed to scrutinize government estimates properly as they make their way through Parliament. Link #3 PM set to shoot down gun-registry foes This is the second attempt by the government to request more money for the registry. Last December it was forced to back down on its initial request for $72-million after outrage and pressure by the opposition and some of its own backbenchers. "If we lose it, it's disastrous," a Liberal official said. But there were indications yesterday that some Liberal backbenchers are not backing down. Sarnia MP Roger Gallaway and Senator Anne Cools distributed a strongly worded eight-page missive urging their Liberal colleagues to vote against more money for the "disastrous Firearms Program." A letter also criticizes reports about musings from the Prime Minister that he would call a snap election if a confidence motion was voted down. The letter writers refer to this as a "tool of coercion of  his own Liberal members."(A vote to support even MORE waste on this farce will be disastrous ONLY to those MPs that don't have the guts to vote FOR their constituents wishes, and instead toe the party line of this wasteful government. Every Single Comment, by every public source regarding this colossal waste of money, uses the adjective "Failed" before the words "Gun Registry", and everyone 'but' this incompetent government seems to understand that! Chrétien is looking for a 'legacy'? Well he found it! Incomprehensible waste while our health care, military, and infrastructure goes terribly wanting. We have helicopters that are now endangering lives while being flown by the sons and daughters of  the men who flew them 40 years ago! Why? Because our government is politically embarrassed. We have Ministers shuffling money and hiding their true spending! Why? Because our government is politically embarrassed. We have a Prime Minister that threatens his members with reprisals and punishment if they don't ignore their voters wishes and do what HE wants. Why? Because our government is politically embarrassed. We have a country that is now insignificant on the world stage! Why? Because our government is a political embarrassment to ALL CANADIANS.  Voting the party line to increase the waste on this "Failed Registry" will only reinforce 'another' political embarrassment! As the commercial says "Welcome to Retirement" Jean! What you 'should' receive while going out the door 'does' involve a LEG and an ASS, but calling it a Legacy would be just another political embarrassment!)
Shuffling around your tax dollars: Liberal Style!
OTTAWA - Allan Rock, the Industry Minister, said yesterday he was not involved in the details of $200,000 in untendered contracts his office gave to a car restoration company to offer advice on aboriginal health matters. Although the contract was given to Continental Custom Carriage Ltd., of Winnipeg, that company did not do the work. Ms. Meyer, now an executive assistant to Stephen Owen, a junior Cabinet minister, paid the co-owners of the car restoration company, Donna and Al Srutwa, a fee for subcontracting the work to her. The funding came from Mr. Rock's ministerial budget. Mr.Hill, who has taken the government to task for two days over this "bizarre contract" arrangement, again demanded to know why a car restoration company was contracted to give aboriginal health advice. He noted Ms. McLellan failed to defend Mr. Rock during Monday's Question Period. "I sense that McLellan is very uncomfortable trying to cover a mess from a previous administration. She's done this now twice. She's been following him on gun registration in Justice and now she's following on this issue. I suspect there's some concern there," said Mr. Hill.(Nope! Nothing wrong here! It's just 'another' strange, twisted, expedition into the Liberal funding 'Twilight Zone' ! Perhaps this is why the government has not received any 'good' information of the situation in Iraq.  The brothers, uncles, cousin, of the guy next door to the Prime Ministers aunt, who owns a Balloon farm in Quebec, was not available to answer the phone, but probably 'would' be available to accept the cheque when no one is looking! Remember 'Ontario' it's YOUR fault. YOU gave them the blank cheque in the last election. Boy! How stupid do you feel now eh!)
Washington 'disappointed' with Canada's stand on Iraq
"There are many Americans who think Canada freeloads on defence with the United States, that if it weren't for the United States protecting North America, Canada would be sitting there out in the open," said Biette. Canada's reluctance on Iraq is a symptom of Ottawa's haphazard foreign policy, he said. Biette said Canada isn't on most Americans' radar, but those who are watching their northern neighbour now consider Canada an unreliable ally. Jones, a former diplomat, warns the disagreement could have implications beyond the Iraq crisis.Canadians conducting negotiations with Americans over trade, softwood lumber or just about anything may have a difficult time of it, he said. "How would you as a Canadian negotiator like to meet a set of American negotiators who say, 'Am I your bastard for the day?'" Jones asked. (There are also many Canadians that feel our government 'freeloads' on defence. War is not something any 'normal' person looks forward too, but you HAVE to support your allies! Our Liberal government supports nothing but their own agenda and leans which ever way the political wind is blowing. Unfortunately, it may take an attack from with-in our own borders before our government pulls it's collective heads out of their asses)
How 'NOT' to P.R.O.V.E. your gun
Afterward, King began showing off guns in his collection. At one point, Hill said, the friends were shooting one of the guns out the open back door of the house, into the rain. About 10:15 p.m., he said, King took out a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun and, apparently not aware that the clip was in the gun, he pulled the trigger, firing once and hitting himself in the head. He was dead when rescue workers arrived.(Effective! But certainly not the 'recommended' way of unloading your firearm!)
LIBERALS REFUSE TO CALL CAUCHON TO EXPLAIN $59 MILLION FOR GUN REGISTRY
Ottawa – Today, Garry Breitkreuz, Official Opposition Critic for Firearms and Property Rights, was disgusted that the Liberal majority on the Justice Committee voted down the Canadian Alliance motion to hold meetings on the Supplementary Estimates.  “Yesterday, at the Public Accounts Committee, the Treasury Board President said MPs don’t ask enough questions about the estimates in Committee.  Today, the Liberals refuse to give us the opportunity to ask questions about the estimates.  They can’t have it both ways,” exclaimed Breitkreuz.  “This is the Liberal government keeping Parliament in the dark aided and abetted by Liberal backbenchers.”(The committee name is obviously wrong! I believe the Liberals 'should' have called it the 'Just-us' Committee, because their the only ones that seem to think there is nothing wrong! The money Cauchon has already spent, again without the approval of parliament, should come from his 'current' justice budget. He was refused money to keep this farce going at the last request, and there is no reason to now give it more! It HAS been effectively shut down by parliament by the last refusal for additional funding, and there is no need to resurrect it. IT'S DEAD.. Let it rest in piece!)
MPs failed to 'uncover' costs of gun registry: Robillard
Alliance outraged at notion it didn't ask enough questions
Treasury Board President Lucienne Robillard blamed MPs yesterday for public ignorance about the soaring cost of the federal firearms registry, saying they did not ask enough questions about the program and even senators were better at getting information out of government. The comment infuriated Canadian Alliance MP Garry Breitkreuz, who has filed over 300 requests under the Access to Information Act during the last eight years to try and find out the cost of the program as well as details about bureaucratic and technological problems. "It's hard for me to sit in my seat here and not explode when the minister says parliamentarians didn't ask enough questions," said Mr. Breitkreuz. Alliance MP John Williams, chairman of the committee, also ridiculed Ms.Robillard's statement, saying the government failed to present information about the registry in a way MPs could comprehend. "Parliamentarians should be able to look at the documents, see them, understand them, and vote on them," said Mr. Williams. "This notion that they have to dig, access to information, documents with blank pieces of paper, try and put the whole jigsaw together -- this is not our role."(Well, it would seem that unless your willing to play some silly Liberal Guessing game called "find where we're hiding this" YOU LOSE!.. This is probably one of the reasons the Liberals tried to scuttle the entire "access to information" system, because they don't want you finding out what their 'really' doing. This is the most wasteful, secretive, back stabbing, self-centred government Canada has ever seen, and Paul Martin certainly isn't going to make any difference at all!)
Boy handcuffed over toy gun
(From an article posted  on the LUFA Site, and  passed on to me by a reader)
The grandmother of a 9-year-old Rexdale boy, who was playing with a toy gun outside her apartment, says he was left shaken and crying after being thrown to the ground and handcuffed by several police officers who believed the gun was real. The high-risk takedown happened Thursday evening after Ida Lawrence's grandson left their apartment to meet a friend who lived nearby on Kendleton Dr., near Finch Ave. W. and Albion Rd. He was carrying a silver toy pistol, which Lawrence purchased for $1.50. "Somebody called and said there was a man outside with a gun," an upset Lawrence said yesterday. "They threw him to the ground in the snow and put on the handcuffs." Lawrence said police brought the boy upstairs to the apartment before releasing him from the handcuffs. They also confiscated the toy, she said. (Sure, Police 'have' to be careful today, but how long would it take, and what measures have to be taken to differentiate a $1.50 plastic pistol from a real handgun, particularly when you have the 'culprit' handcuffed and face down in a snow bank? If the cops are close enough to 'take him down' they KNOW there is no danger, and the gun is not real! AND, why on earth would they keep a nine year old HANDCUFFED even after discerning the gun is not real! Perhaps what the police need most of all, is a basic education of  what childhood consists of! It would have taken, even an idiot, less than 4-5 seconds to recognize a 'plastic' gun after having disarmed the villain. This is a nine year old child, NOT a 20 year old crack addict, Who now, thanks to some of the dumber members of Toronto's finest, will have a fear of police for the rest of his life! I'm sorry, but I can't even imagine the level of stupidity and insensitivity any officer would require to return this child to his grandmother in handcuffs, particularly 'if' he was ALSO a victim of racial profiling! Stupid? Hell, this is WAY beyond Stupid, and the lawyers should just be lining up to take this case Pro Bono.. Please read the 'other' comments posted on the LUFA site, and leave some of your own!!)
Canada's Leader Rejects Sending Troops to War (Washington Post)
Canada will not join a U.S.-led war on Iraq without a new resolution by the U.N. Security Council, Prime Minister Jean Chretien told the House of Commons today. Chretien, who received loud applause in Parliament, said: "Canada worked very hard to find a compromise to bridge the gap in the Security Council. Unfortunately, we were not successful. If military action proceeds without a new resolution of the Security Council, Canada will not participate." Members of Canada's opposition also criticized the government, saying they were disappointed Canada would not be standing with the United States. "Canada finds itself frozen on the outside," said Stephen Harper, leader of the Canadian Alliance. "In all the great conflicts of the 20th century, Canada and the U.S. have fought side by side. Frankly, the reality is Canada was often at the forefront of those conflicts. In threats of world security, democracy and freedom, we are disappointed we are no longer a leader." (Most Canadians don't really want war, and most have their own opinion on Bush's 'real' reason for this conflict. However, most Canadians are dismayed that we, thanks to the Liberals, are largely irrelevant anyway! US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld put it best while talking about France, and considering the state of our military, his statement would be equal for Canada: "Going to War without France/Canada, would be like going on a deer hunt without your accordion"! Thanks Jean! Yours is the first government in the history of our country, to make us completely irrelevant on the world stage! You must be so proud!)
Australian Liberal Brain Fart: Another Stupid Short Barrel Law
Mr Tingle's main grievance with the Federal Government centres on the allowable barrel length of hand guns. "Under Mr Howard's proposal only pistols with a five-inch barrel length will be allowed," Mr Tingle said. "Converted to metric that's 120 millimetres. "So, John Howard is saying five-inch guns (120mm) are okay knowing full well most pistols in Australia are 118 millimetres. "He's lulling people into thinking their guns are protected when in fact they won't be and they will have to be handed in." Mr Tingle said talks he has had with NSW police minister Michael Costa suggest the scheme will not work as it will cost too much to fund. "The Federal Government is saying the buy-back scheme will cost $100 million when in fact it will be closer to $500 million," he said. "Mr Costa is also concerned at the time it is going to take to measure and re-register every hand gun in the State. "This will create a massive problem for the understaffed Firearm Registry and innocent gun owners trying to comply with the new regulations before June 30."('Another wasted Half Billion' and Another overworked gun registry! Australia is now flooded with illegal handguns, and their 'still' going after the legal ones. This is called 'Crime Control'. When 'only' the criminals have guns, Oz will be a much safer place won't it? Perhaps their just trying to promote a Kevlar fashion industry! Their gonna need it!)
Speaker, do not take sides
The Speaker’s exaggerated response has been heavily influenced by U.S. crime statistics, however. In 1999, according to Statistics Canada, there were 1,006 gun deaths in Canada. Most — 802 — were suicides. Only 165 were homicides. In 2001, guns accounted for 171 of 554 homicides. Two-thirds of those killings involve unregistered handguns, and Canada has had a law requiring registration of handguns for 68 years. No one is arguing that handguns should not be registered;(for what valid purposes is unknown, as it does not seem to effect crime rates at all) critics are arguing that registering long guns and shot guns will not prevent the vast majority of gun deaths occurring by illegal, unregistered handguns. Milliken is wrong to label people who object as being “half-brained” and “foolish,” especially when his role is to be neutral in debates about government policy. He should step aside when the matter next comes up for debate in the house, and if he cannot refrain from adding his sarcastic opinions on other matters, he should be replaced by someone who can.(Milliken exhibits the 'classic' misinformation and propaganda favoured by ALL gun control groups. This consists largely of grasping at ridiculous figures, from what seems to be thin air, and presenting them to the ignorant as gospel. To listen to some of these zealots, you would think that there were no controls what-so-ever before the Liberals presented this farce to parliament shrouded in a wrap of lies and deceit. ANY laws passed by deception and the presentation of false information should be struck down in ANY fair court of law)
Fund boost for accused storekeeper
(Canoe Link: Will Vanish in 24hrs or less)
Shand King, 45, owner of Audio 5.1, has been charged with causing bodily harm with intent, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm knowing the firearm is unauthorized, and using a firearm during the commission of an offence. "(King) is a likable little fellow, a tiny little man. He wasn't out hunting thieves, he was protecting his own property," Turnbull said. On March 9, thieves rammed a stolen Chevy Blazer tail-first through the front of Audio 5.1. Two culprits were trying to pry a plasma TV from a wall at the 103 Street and 63 Avenue store, said police, when shots were fired inside the building. About 25 minutes after the incident, a man was found with a gunshot wound and taken to hospital. Police were unable to determine whether the man's injury and the break-in were connected and cut him a deal for information against the store owner suspected of shooting the man.(In all probability, what went down was: Mr King confronted two desperate thieves in his business, being a small in stature, and no match for the criminals he carried a firearm to afford him "security of the person" as is his constitutional right. When confronted, the (soon to be perforated) criminal attacked him, and Mr. King used the only defence available to him, considering the difference in size between himself and the attacker. These 'people' used a vehicle to crash though the front of his business, with little regard to the possible injuries this may have caused someone on the inside.  With regard to the firearms charges, he should contact the NFA immediately, the other charges are CLEARLY self defence. It's interesting that this criminal "Cut a Deal" with the police by obviously lying. When confronted by a larger, stronger attacker, no other defence was possible, and the criminal should be counting his blessings Mr. King did not shoot to kill. A wounded attacker could have very well taken his life, and any 'normal' person would have done the same thing, unless of course you feel 'his' life is more valuable than your own! I Can't imagine a jury finding that Mr. King did not have the right to protect his life by whatever means he had available)
'What is Canada going to do?'
War stance debated: Gun registry, marijuana also on Parliament's agenda
This week, the House is scheduled to wrap up debate on last month's budget, and address bills on human reproduction and political financing. But it is the controversial $1-billion gun registry that will likely cause the most problems for the Prime Minister. The Commons is scheduled to vote on another $59-million for the gun program on March 25. Opposition MPs are united in opposing it, with even some Liberal MPs threatening to vote against funding despite speculation Mr. Chrétien will declare the vote a matter of confidence in his government.(Liberal M.P.'s are in for a very rough ride on this one. There is a 'very' good chance that if Cauchon does not withdraw the bill, effectively shutting down the registry, the government could fall. Will Liberal back benchers have the guts to do what's right? Or, will they simply vote to keep their jobs, and ignore the waste. The very fact that the 'firearms license' itself will likely be declared void will add another nail to the CFC coffin anyway. Dave Tomlinson of the NFA outlines this very well, in the last issue of the 'Firearms Journal', and requests that "Individuals that are charged with any firearms control offence are requested to make contact with the National Firearms Association Ph: 780-439-1394 / Fax: 780-439-4091. The crown has already withdrawn charges in one case in Ontario when confronted with the NFA's defence, and other crowns will too )
Gun debate puts Speaker in line of fire
The Conservative party has promised to question Mr. Milliken's impartiality in the explosive debate over the registry because of scathing comments he made five years ago about firearms owners fighting to get the government to scrap the program before it took effect. Inside the Liberal party, rebel backbencher Roger Gallaway, along with Senator Anne Cools and other caucus members, plans to circulate a blistering letter urging government MPs to vote against supplementary funding for the controversial program later in the month. And the Canadian Alliance is considering an opposition motion that could force government MPs to take sides in a vote on whether the registry should be suspended. Adding to the drama, Auditor General Sheila Fraser is to square off against Treasury Board President Lucienne Robillard with evidence to prove the government ignored strict spending and management controls as the cost of the firearms program mushroomed out of control to nearly $1 billion over five years. Ms. Fraser and Ms. Robillard are to appear in front of the Commons public accounts committee today.(This is going to be a very interesting week indeed!)
Smith & Wesson woos buyers with .50-caliber revolver
The new handguns include a .50 caliber version of the famed Magnum line that began in 1930s with the .357, designed as a gun for hunters, and that continued in the 1950s with the .44 Magnum. "This gun will get people talking about Smith & Wesson again," Steve Comus, publications director of Safari Club International, said of the .50 caliber Magnum. He said several of his club's big game hunting enthusiasts have ordered the revolver, and said it could also find a market as backup protection for outdoorsmen in areas frequented by grizzlies and other big predators. "They are not going to sell 100,000 of them, but they will sell several thousand to that particular universe," Comus said.(WoooHooo.. Look out Nuisance Bears!!)
Milliken accused of bias in debate over  gun registry
Commons Speaker Peter Milliken’s neutrality is under attack with the circulation of 1998 letters he wrote suggesting an opponent of the federal firearms program was half-brained and pig-headed and saying he would “happily” support legislation to ban all guns. Gilbert Pinney, a St. Catharines armoured-car driver who took part in the correspondence with Milliken, distributed copies of the letters to all MPs and senators last week. He said Milliken – who was MP for Kingston and the Islands but not yet Commons Speaker – showed “extreme and deeply anchored prejudice” that should prevent him from ruling on House arguments over the gun registry. Pinney said he decided to circulate the letters after Milliken ruled against Liberal MP Roger Gallaway’s claim that Justice Minister Martin Cauchon violated the privilege of all MPs by continuing to fund the firearms program after the Commons agreed last December to reduce its supplementary estimates to zero. Milliken wrote: “I would happily pass legislation banning people from having guns were I given the opportunity to vote for such legislation,”  (Now we know WHY the 'Speaker of the house' refused to accept the fact that the registry was effectively shut down, as Liberal MP Roger Gallaway said it should be when the last funding request was refused. We all know to what lengths and lies the anti-gun advocates will stoop to while trying to eliminate the source of their 'personal' fears. From the tone of  his previous letters, why would 'anyone' believe 'this' particular zealot has put his phobias to rest without proof of  interventional psychological treatment! Phobias are not something you can simply place on the back burner and claim they 'currently' have no effect on your day to day decisions. Phobias are real, and without a unbiased psychological examination proving otherwise, Milliken should step down and another speaker temporarily appointed during any debates regarding firearms, their funding or control )
Officer recalls shot that killed co-worker: Cop forgot to unload gun
Const. Cyril Pratt simply forgot to unload his gun before he accidentally shot and killed a fellow Calgary police officer during a training scenario. Testifying on Thursday at a fatality inquiry for Const. Darren Beatty, Pratt spoke publicly for the first time about the Oct. 17, 2001, accident. "Is it fair to say you simply forgot to unload your weapon?" Pratt's lawyer, Earl Wilson, asked him. "Yes," Pratt said. Judge Terry Semenuk asked Pratt why no checks had been done on his gun. "I forgot, sir," was Pratt's answer. A soft-spoken Pratt, formerly a member of the elite Calgary Police Service tactical team, told court he reloaded his police-issue Glock handgun before he left the Silver Springs police training facility to retrieve newly acquired camera equipment from his truck. Hamel then saw fellow officer Shawn Wallace emerge from the room yelling Beatty had been shot. "(They) had gone HRT so I knew (Beatty) had been shot in the head." Pratt was taken from the room and his gun seized. Hamel drove Pratt around until word came on what to do next. "(Pratt) was despondent. I can't recall his exact words. I think I asked him what happened," said Hamel. "His response was: 'I reloaded when I went back to the truck, I forgot to, you know.' I knew what he meant, I didn't have to ask any more questions."(Familiarity, and a casual attitude surrounding  firearms is a very real danger to police that have the 'tool of the trade' hanging on their belt all day long! Accidents such as this, are always possible when firearms are pointed at others, for what ever reason. Hopefully now, the safeguards have been improved to the point that this type of accident will become 'less' possible. My comments, as someone who has taught many students in the safe handling of commercial explosives, "You 'have' to learn from the mistakes of others. You won't live long enough to make too many of them yourself!")

EDMONTON - A man who stabbed a suburban mother to death during a break-in has been granted day parole. Sonny Head is serving a life sentence for the 1994 murder of Barb Danelesko. She was stabbed in the heart after she investigated a noise made by Head and two other youths who had broken into her Edmonton home. Head was 16 at the time.(Well Gee!! Police call for leads in murder
Toronto's police chief has called for the public to help put a stop to a wave of violence that has resulted in the shooting deaths of at least a dozen people in the past six months. The latest killing occurred Tuesday night when a 23-year-old man died after being shot near a doughnut shop on Dundas St. E. at Victoria St., a short distance from Ryerson University. Fantino, who arrived at the scene shortly after the shooting, said there's far too much violence in the city and people have to step forward and turn in the gunmen who are responsible for the deaths."We need to have the public get on side with us," he said. "People know who they are, people know who's got guns."(Hey! the 'government' knows who's got guns! But, you know what? THOSE AREN'T THE GUNS THAT ARE CAUSING THE PROBLEMS, AND NEVER WERE! If the money wasted on C-68 had been allocated to stop gun crimes, instead of  being used to buy votes from firearms ignorant urbanites. Those very same urbanites would not be ducking flying bullets when they go out for a walk! Not ONE single shooting on any Toronto street has been committed by a legal gun owner, with a legally purchased handgun! The public is not now, and never has been in danger from hunters and target shooters. There is absolutely NOTHING this billion dollars has been spent on, that has made you one bit safer. This is simply wasteful legislation aimed squarely at a non existent problem. Hunters and target shooter are not the problem, and never were, never will be! Chief Fantino knows this, and so do his officers, as well as the officers of the O.P.P. and the Ontario Association of  Police Chiefs. NONE of them support this wasteful, useless legislation, and have said so publicly. The liberal plan to dump 'another' 172 MILLION DOLLARS into this farce is a stark demonstration of unconscionable, Liberal fiscal incompetence, and complete disdain for the beleaguered taxpayer)
Moore likely to win Oscar
Bowling for Columbine has some very legitimate competition. The Director's Guild awards (which can include documentaries that showed only on television) nominated only one of the Oscar candidates, director Malcolm Clarke's Prisoner of Paradise, the biography of Kurt Gerron, a German actor/director forced to make a Nazi propaganda film. The other factor is Charlton Heston, spokesman for the National Rifle Association and a revered figure in Hollywood. In Bowling for Columbine, Moore confronts Heston at his home, making the aged actor look foolish and callous about the death of a child. Heston subsequently announced in public that he has Alzheimer's, though he has not resigned his job with the NRA."It's certainly a factor," concedes Donovan. "We might face a kind of circle-the-wagons phenomenon by this perceived attack on a Hollywood icon, a respected figure, and reasonably so. I mean, he's Moses. That's why the NRA chose him." Though Hollywood media have been abuzz with rumours of a McCarthy-ite witch hunt with the new security measures in the U.S., a win for Bowling for Columbine would send a bold message to Washington, that Hollywood is not toeing the line this time.(By all accounts, this film is about as much a 'documentary' as Mondo Cane was, back in the 60's! At least THAT 'film' won an Oscar for the best song 'More'. This so-called 'documentary' is a jumble of crap edited and presented to follow the directors goal of supporting his own ignorance of the people that actually 'use' guns to commit crimes. While at the same time, using that ignorance to lump them altogether with 'anyone' that owns a gun. Of course, 'my' personal bias is that any unshaven fatman, appearing in public, wearing a tuxedo and a baseball cap, in all likelihood is mentally unstable. I would simply cross the street  to avoid him - anyday!)
Civil disobedience as a retirement project
In order to get his friend – an armed forces veteran from Saskatoon – out of jail, Turnbull agreed to change the terms of his own release. He can’t come to Ontario except to attend court and he is forbidden to speak to a firearms rally in Canada.  “They’ve taken my freedom,” he says. “A pedophile can go across Canada until proven guilty. They’ve muzzled me.”Does he intend to abide by the conditions of his release? “Absolutely not!” Turnbull says he’s been invited to speak at the University of Alberta and in Ft. McMurray and plans to honour both invitations as well as others that come in. His goal is still to be charged under Bill C-68 so he can challenge it one court after another. “I have nine lawyers in Ontario who said they’d take my case all the way to the Supreme Court and charge me nothing,” he says.(Isn't it just wonderful to know that Carla Homolka, when released from prison, will have MORE freedom than 'any' Canadian firearms owner. The half assed Liberal 'sex offender registry' has few of the onerous 'reporting' requirement faced by a duck hunter and his shotgun, nor have the feds stolen money from the treasury to pay for it. They spent a billion dollars trying to convince an urban population, that the country duck hunter is a bigger threat to urban society than the convicted sex murderer. )
Auditor-General fires back over registry
In an appearance before the House public accounts committee last month, Mr. Rosenberg argued his department did not have to follow those reporting rules because it was not a major Crown project."The Department of Justice now appears to be objecting to the chapter's description of the Canadian Firearms Program as a major Crown project, and it appears to consider this a significant matter," writes Ms. Fraser, in a letter obtained by the National Post. "Our review of government documents related to the Canadian Firearms Program clearly indicated that the Program was a major Crown project."In one example, Ms. Fraser wrote that draft versions of her report are sent to departments for review. Ms. Fraser states the Treasury Board did not dispute the term's use, and in fact corrected one paragraph, requesting that the phrase "major capital project" be changed to "major Crown project."MPs and Senators were quick to characterize the government's actions as a sign the government is ignoring Ms. Fraser's calls for transparency."It's just more obfuscation, more cover-up," said Gerald Keddy, a Tory MP on the public accounts committee. "If I [were] Mr. Rosenburg or anyone on the government bench or ours, I would be very hesitant to call the Auditor-General to task or to insinuate that she didn't know what she was talking about." Mr. Keddy said the actions of Mr. Rosenburg and Ms. Robillard, as well as Martin Cauchon, the Minister of Justice, are "absolutely unforgivable."(Situations such as this always happen when you have a majority government that has been in power for far to long, and now feels that public accountability is somewhere further down the list of things to do! Voting this fiasco Even MORE money, would be the absolute height of fiscal incompetence and disdain of public accountability. If  YOU have a Liberal M.P. Write/Fax/Email your disgust with this waste, and remind them of the consequences of more even money being allocated to this black hole.
STOP THE INSANITY!!)
Just Thought You Should Know!
Five surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on.  The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table,  because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered."  The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians! Everything  inside them is colour coded."  The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best;  everything inside them is in alphabetical order."  The fourth surgeon chimes in: "You know, I like construction  workers...those guys always understand when you have a few parts  left over at the end, and when the job takes longer than you said it would." But the fifth surgeon shut them all up when he observed: "You're all  wrong.  Liberal Politicians are the easiest to operate on. There's no guts, no heart, no balls, no brains and no spine, and the head and the ass are totally interchangeable!
No safety for these officers
Some of their clients are bent on making a new start when they get out of jail, but others are career criminals, picking up right where they left off. And these days, career criminals are turning up armed with guns and knives. That's the reality of what is happening out there. Guns seem to be turning up more frequently in the hands of criminals these days. There have been six victims of homicide in Brampton and Mississauga so far this year. Four of them were shot to death. This all has our local probation officers concerned about their own safety. They are trying to get their employer-- the Ministry of Public Safety and Security-- to beef up security for them in the workplace.(If, dealing with possibly armed convicted felons, placed back on the street by the Canadian 'Revolving door of Justice' is not a safety issue. Then, perhaps those bureaucrats and politicians would like to invite a few of these poor misfortunate criminals to their own homes for a couple of beers some evening?)
OWNING A GUN AND HUNTING ARE NOT RISKY ACTIVITIES SAY INSURANCE COMPANIES
“In 1994, the Liberals made a colossal mistake that no responsible gun owner would ever do.  They started shooting before making sure they were aiming at the right target,” said Breitkreuz.  “Instead of targeting their gun control laws at the criminals who use firearms, they aimed 95% of their legislative measures at the three-million responsible firearms owners who insurance companies say aren’t a risk.” Once their misdirected law was passed, anti-gun paranoia took over in the Justice Department.  In her December 2002 report, the Auditor General said:“…the program's focus had changed from high risk firearms owners to excessive regulation and enforcement of controls over all owners and their firearms.  The Department said the excessive regulation had occurred because some of its Program partners believed that the use of firearms is in itself a "questionable activity" that required strong controls.” “The Liberal government should start using facts instead of the personal opinion of a few bureaucrats bolstered by highly questionable statistics and propaganda.  The Liberals could have saved taxpayers a billion dollars or more just by checking with the insurance company actuaries before they started down this trail of wasted Loonies.  The hemorrhaging of tax dollars on the gun registry must stop before another billion is wasted,” concluded Breitkreuz. (These are 'FACTS'! We have this stupid waste of money, because Liberals 'rarely' let FACTS get in the way of what they want, and money is never any object. Particularly if it's not 'their' money!)
Hands off our land, farmers tell government
"If the government goes ahead with the tree bylaw and nutrient management, 90 per cent of us are going to be looking at the government for welfare," says Mr. Ryan. "It's very likely the person who made that nutrient law has never seen a cow shit." The thrust of the act, for beef farmers, is to periodically collect fallen manure from grazing animals. Some farmers are resorting to concrete slabs, which are much easier to scrape, but expensive to build, in outdoor pens. "What they're talking about is if there's one inch of frost in the ground, you can't let your cow poop on the ground," says Mr. Ryan. "Well, I'm out of business." Renfrew lawyer Joe Legris, who has helped the association on the legal notion of "property rights," said the phrase "urbanization" is being used more and more to describe increased regulation of rural life. "This province's population is 85 per cent urban and maybe 15 per cent rural, but the people developing all these rules and regulations are from the urban side of it. "I don't think they fully appreciate how people like Tom Ryan and Jack Kelly make their living from the land."(Maybe when meat hits $20.00 a pound, 'some' of these urban yuppies will feel the pinch! Their the same bunch that tries to outlaw hunting, and until the Canadian Farmer can raise hand fed Tofudabeasts, they think nothing much of value comes from a farm! After all, food 'does' come from the supermarket, why do we need smelly, messy, farms anyway? No one really 'needs' a pet cow!)
The Revolving Door of Justice Makes Firearms Act And
"Culture of Safety" Another Liberal Farce!
The slayings happened the same day a 6-year-old boy was shot to death by his 7-year-old sister in another part of Mississauga. They were passed off in typically oblique police language that simply said the victims were "known" to the drug-dealing killer. The implication seemed that the young men were also involved in similar wrongdoing and the story was quickly shuffled to the back pages or dropped from TV news coverage altogether. But Peel homicide detectives probing the Jan. 3 shootings admit they've found nothing criminal to stain the image of "good kids" who ended up on the wrong end of Joseph Prieto's .45-calibre pistol. Prieto, 31, was a career criminal who was jailed for just six months in 2001 after pulling a gun on two Durham Region police officers during a drug bust in 1997. Police say he acted like "a madman" when he snatched an officer's weapon, pointed it at them and later tried to hijack a cement truck. He also received 18 months probation after he was convicted of assaulting a  police officer, robbery, assault causing bodily harm, escaping lawful custody and possession of narcotics.(If the 'Firearms Act', part of the so-called "Culture of Safety" the Liberals have wasted a billion dollars on, was TRULY making Canadians safer, this  A-Hole should have been in prison for NUMEROUS firearms offences alone! Instead he was subjected only to the 'revolving door' of the Canadian  Justice System! This family should immediately launch a lawsuit against the Government of Canada for allowing this person, a habitual criminal, to walk free in only 6 months for firearms offences, and 18 months for assault,  and then murder their son, when the firearms act 'alone' says 5-10 years ! If this criminal was in prison, where he was supposed to be, these young men would still be alive today! "Culture of Safety my Ass"!)
Animal rights group takes aim at gopher shooters 'again'
WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Animal rights activists are blazing mad at gun-totin' Canadians in the rodent-infested Prairies who will try to kill thousands of ground squirrels this summer in a shootout offering rifles as prizes. A hunters organization in the province of Saskatchewan hopes to attract up to 1,000 people to enter the derby, which last year saw 63 entrants kill more than 60,000 Richardson's ground squirrels, or gophers.  Animal rights groups have blasted the contest as barbaric. But organizer Len Jabush fired back and said it provides a helpful service to farmers with crops and pastures overrun by the rodents.(Hmmm Lets solve this dilemma! If  only 68 shooters 'took out' 60,000 gophers, 1000 shooters can theoretically 'take out' 950,000+! If we can get 9,500 of these animal right activist to adopt and feed only 100 gophers each, that would solve the whole problem! Charge the animal rights people 20 bucks a head to roundup and take home 100 gophers! I'm sure these folks are so dedicated to saving these creatures they would jump at the chance! But, more than likely, you would only get 9,500 excuses why 'they' can't care for  and feed 950,000 gophers! But 'they' expect the farmers to! As far as I'm concerned, unless they want to compensate the farmers the 20-30 million 'minimum' a year in damages caused by these rodents, they should just shut-up and stay in the city where they belong!)
Shooting Victim's Mom Campaigns for Canadian Gun Registry
"We felt our voice wasn't being heard," said Vanscoy, whose 14-year-old daughter was shot in the head in 1996 by a 17-year-old using a stolen semi-automatic handgun. "There's been a lot of opposition, a lot of talk about the cost of the registry, but no reference at all in respect to the benefit the program's had." Vanscoy called the federal gun-registry program "a step in the right direction."She added, "It's not going to stop people killing other people with guns, but it's made a difference." Since her daughter's killing, Vanscoy has been working on broader anti-violence issues. She decided to speak out about the gun registry after hearing so much opposition to it. "Generally, they say, 'It's not a gun that killed your daughter, people kill people,' and I get that," she said. "My belief is that these measures in the registry create a culture of safety around guns. Gun owners need to be accountable for their guns."(The ignorance of previous firearms laws is absolutely astounding! It was a 'handgun' lady! THEY have been subjected to registration and severe restrictions in this country for over 60 years! Exactly 'what' component of this new firearms farce would have saved your daughter? The ONLY thing this farce has done, is take money from where it would have 'really' saved lives to make people who blame 'guns' instead of  'people', feel better! There is NOTHING in this current waste that makes you one bit safer, but it 'has' contributed to the influx of guns hitting the backmarket..Think about it!)
Military plans $1B HQ building
National Defence is considering building a centralized, $1-billion headquarters complex in Ottawa despite warnings that it may be perceived as a case of generals trading off offices for guns, newly obtained government documents reveal. The main advantages to the documented plan released through the Access to Information Act is that it would greatly increase security around defence employees while freeing up much needed downtown office space for Public Works. But the document warns that the plan will likely get a negative reception from the public and media, especially at a time when National Defence's financial shortcomings are regularly in the news. "Initial public response could be that this is a case of the generals getting new offices vs. troops getting guns," it says.(Gee!!! Ya Think?? One thing for sure, those offices will be a hell of a lot safer than the Helicopters our pilots 'and their Fathers' flew.. Perhaps a few bucks should be spent to replace them, before our next generation of  pilots are flying the same machines their 'Grandfathers' flew as well!)
TWELVE THINGS ALL MPs SHOULD KNOW BEFORE VOTING TO PUMP ANOTHER $172 MILLION INTO THE GUN REGISTRY
Yorkton – Today, Garry Breitkreuz, Official Opposition Critic for Firearms and Property Rights, released his 5-page analysis of twelve things that all Members of Parliament should know before they vote to pump another $172 million into the gun registry.  Even Liberal backbenchers are saying Parliament ‘repudiated’ the Canadian Firearms Program on December 5, 2003 by unanimously refusing another $72 million in additional program spending.  “It’s been three months and nothing has really changed,” said Breitkreuz.  “MPs won’t even know the total cost of gun registry to date when they vote for another $172 million at the end of March.  It’s an absolute disgrace, an insult to taxpayers and the democratic will of Parliament.”  “It’s irresponsible for Members of Parliament to vote to pour another $172 million into any program when neither the Auditor General of Canada nor the Justice Minister know what the total expenditures have been over the last eight years,”(FORWARD THIS LINK TO EVERY MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT! Maybe if each of them receive it a couple of hundred times, it 'might' sink in!.)
McGuinty goes on the attack
The Liberal dinner drew an A-list crowd of political movers, including federal leadership frontrunner Paul Martin, Heritage Minister Sheila Copps, Finance Minister John Manley, Defence Minister John McCallum, Industry Minister Allan Rock, mayoral candidates Barbara Hall, John Nunziata and John Tory. A provincial vote is expected this spring as the Tories near the fourth anniversary of their second majority government in early June.(From the look of the crowd at this Liberal shindig, it would seem McGuinty is jumping into the back pocket of the Federal Liberals. Ontario would do well to remember, the 'last' time a Liberal government took power in Ontario, they were so bad, so fiscally irresponsible, so out of touch with the people, that Ontario actually replaced them with the NDP! The thought was "How can they possibly be any worse"? Well, the NDP showed them, by replacing the 4 billion deficit left by the Liberals with their own 10 billion deficit. The Conservative Harris/Eves Governments had to make some unpopular changes, but they now have Ontario prospering again. To throw away all we've gained by bringing back these Tax & Spend Liberals would defy logic! McGuinty's right, look at the record.. But be sure to look back far enough and compare what we had under the LAST Ontario Liberal Government!)
Disarming History
How an award-winning scholar twisted the truth about America’s gun culture -- and almost got away with it.
Bellesiles had flung his challenge at a political organization, but unfortunately for him it was the scholarly community that picked it up. The evidence he had presented for his groundbreaking theory was investigated first by experts from a range of disciplines and political viewpoints; then by a special symposium in a learned journal; and finally, as a result of the disturbing findings, by the professor’s university and an outside panel of scholars that it appointed. The results are now in: Bellesiles’ arguments are based on wholesale misuse of evidence and, in some cases, no evidence at all. The "invented tradition" is fact, the professor’s version a folktale. (Firearms were 'also' a significant part of Canadian History and Culture. We live in a country that is 'still' largely uninhabited wilderness. If 'city' people don't like guns, fine, but leave the rest of us alone. Guns are not now, nor have they ever been a problem in Canada, and 'only' the ignorant can be convinced otherwise!)
Kansas - Missouri House votes to legalize conceaaled weapons
Rep. Larry Crawford, a Centertown Republican, said 33 states already allow citizens to carry concealed weapons, and they have not created problems in those states. He said a vote against the proposal would be saying that Missourians are not as responsible as residents of other states. Republican Rep. Rod Jetton, the speaker pro tem from Marble Hill, said concealed guns are a necessity in rural areas. He said that when his wife and children arrived at their home after it had been burglarized, sheriff's deputies failed to arrive for more than 30 minutes. "Law enforcement arrives later to write up the report, to do the investigation and pick up the pieces," Jetton said. "They are not there when the moment of danger comes and you have to defend yourself." (Even in Canada, Alarm systems, and panic buttons simply don't get help fast enough. If you have an alarm in your house, and you 'accidentally' trip it, the police response time in Toronto for example, is usually about 15-30 minutes. A little faster, if your screaming into the phone, and there's gunshots in the background, but by then it's too late!
Canada is NOT the country it used to be, and pretending that it is,  is not going to make you any safer. As a matter of fact, the Canadian Government has done everything it can possibly do, to make sure that 'only' the criminal has the gun. Feel Safer? I didn't think so!)
F.Y.I. Paul Martin & His 'Canadian' Values!
(Info supplied by an Alliance NewsLetter)
Paul Martin and his wife Sheila are sole proprietors of a private, non-publicly-traded, family business called Canada Steamship Lines. This personal business empire is a conglomerate of 47 companies with a fleet of 37 ships. The fleet is larger than the entire Canadian navy, and CSL is the largest operator of self-unloading ships in the world. In March 2001, the CSL Group’s assets were valued at $693,388,000 with total annual sales of $283,181,000.  When Paul Martin purchased CSL in 1981, the company conducted its affairs in Canada, employed Canadian crews, and built ships in Canada. Over twenty years later, most of CSL’s affiliates are primarily located in Barbados, Bermuda, and Liberia. In Liberia, CSL pays a flat tax of $350 (US) a year. Bermuda has no tax on revenues. Barbados offers a decreasing tax rate from 2.5% to 1%. In 1989, CSL began to reflag its fleet. Foreign crews do not receive the same salaries or benefits as their Canadian counterparts and, when employing foreign crews, shipowners do not have to abide by the higher Canadian marine safety standards. Recently, CSL shipbuilding has taken place offshore, primarily at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai, China. This despite a Government of Canada report calling for a revitalization of our home grown shipbuilding industry which has been battered by foreign subsidies and unfair trade practices. (Well, not only did he make a concerted effort to avoid the hassles of dealing with Canadian law and Taxes, but also the hiring Canadians as well! Canada Steamship Lines is considered to be a HUGE  Canada based empire! Why does his government consider wasting OVER TWICE what this HUGE Canada based empire is valued at, on a useless gun control farce 'they' they claim is not even a major government expenditure! If wasting OVER TWICE the value of  one of the LARGEST Conglomerates in the country is not a problem to the Liberals, then just what would THEY consider to be fiscal mismanagement? You can clearly see, that Paul Martin has the well being of Canadians foremost in his mind.. Ya Right! Perhaps the Chinese would like MORE Canadian Jobs! I'm sure Paul Martin has 'their' vote of confidence. Certainly  the Liberal party can vote themselves a new leader. But Canadians should have the chance to see if 'they' really want him! CALL A GENERAL FEDERAL ELECTION Let CANADIANS decide who leads their country! If anything, Chrétien has proven that MP's that you vote for, have only as much input as the dictator of the party allows. The POWER is with the leader of the party, and not the people elected by the general population. THEREFORE, if we're going to have a 'dictator' he should at least be initially installed by the majority vote of the general population, or every vote in the commons should be a FREE vote!)
Firearms Funding a Confidence Vote (Nat. Post. Wst to Est.)
OTTAWA - Jean Chrétien is trying to intimidate Liberal backbenchers into backing the government, says caucus rebel Roger Gallaway. Rumours Mr. Chrétien will declare a vote on funding for the firearms program a government confidence vote were reinforced when Elections Canada confirmed it is preparing to be ready for a March 31 election call.(Having an election called on the Firearms funding vote would be absolutely phenomenal! Chrétien has two scenarios for this result. #1. If an election is called, he will withdraw his resignation and run for his much coveted forth term. #2 Who cares! He won't be around much longer anyway! Any Liberal backbencher that votes to flush even more money down this farce is committing political suicide anyway, SO BRING ON THE ELECTION!! Personally! I think the backbenchers will wimp out and flush the money! I truly don't believe that their in politics for public benefit. The only thing they will be protecting, is the short term duration of their jobs. More so if they are 'almost' ready for their 'gold plated pensions'. The real scary part is: If the yuppies in Ontario vote these incompetents in for another term, simply on the basis of  "The devil you know is better than the one you don't", this farce will soar billions of dollars because they will claim they have the 'mandate' of the people to waste even more of their tax dollars. This government must not only be defeated, it must be humiliated in the process. Without the defeat of this government, the Liberals will once again, drive Canada to the brink of bankruptcy, and we will continue to wallow in global insignificance for decades to come.)
Flying antiques
Since coming to power in 1993, the Liberals have blown several billions of dollars on an ineffective gun registry, on job ‘creation’ programs and other priorities. Indeed, for the price of one failed gun registry, the feds could replace all of the military’s aging Sea King helicopters overseas. When the government originally planned to replace the Sea Kings in 1992, it could have bought 11 new EH-101 helicopters for $1 billion. By August 2000, it could have bought 10 new helicopters. Instead, the Sea Kings are still flying. And soldiers who climb into a Sea King unsure of where or how they will disembark it can take heart in knowing the prime minister and his exalted cabinet travel first class in brand new $100-million jets. No one should be comforted by this. Certainly not the crew of the Iroquois which will eventually head back out to fight terrorism with yet another of Chretien’s albatrosses on their decks. (The virtual elimination of the military, guns, and 'machines of war' are obvious priorities of the Liberal Party. Sadly, they truly believe that disarming Canadians on all fronts, will make them safer. Do they make 'you' feel safer? I didn't think so!)
Last Vimy Ridge infantryman dies
'There's no one to answer questions now about what it was like,' historian says
On April 9, 1917, Mr. Reaper was among the 20,000 Canadian soldiers who went over the top to attack German positions on Vimy Ridge. Although the Canadians were given little chance to take the heavily fortified ridge, which French and British troops had tried and failed to capture, within three days they had routed the German defenders. The victory cost Canada 3,598 lives. Another 7,699 were wounded.(After having distinguished itself in 2 world wars, Canada's military has, under successive, misguided Liberal Governments, been reduced to the level of international insignificance. And sadly, A Soldier Died Today!)
British guns amnesty launched as firearms crimes soar
As well as prohibited, unlicensed and unwanted firearms, the police are now encouraging people to hand in air weapons and imitation guns. The Government is to bring in new restrictions on carrying imitations or air weapons in a public place. Launching the initiative, Home Office minister Bob Ainsworth said:"This amnesty provides an opportunity for people to get rid of an illegal weapon. "The safety of the public and police officers is our first priority. Taking guns off our streets will save lives and cut crime. Every weapon that is given up is a weapon that cannot be used in crime and violence. "While armed crime in the UK is low compared with other countries, there has been an unacceptable increase in the number of guns being used in crime and the Government is taking urgent action to tackle this.(Gun crime in Britain is soaring for two reasons. First is the 'gun ban'. NOTHING creates a market like a government ban. Whether it be books, guns, or drugs, when the government bans it, it then becomes a valuable commodity for the underworld, and the government has lost all ability to control and regulated it. The Second reason is: Criminals in the U.K. KNOW they are safe from their victims. As a matter of fact, the VICTIM is arrested if they even pull a 'toy' gun to cause anyone 'fear' and that, unbelievably, includes the CRIMINAL ATTACKER! So, you have a society that lives in fear of criminals, because citizens can find themselves in prison if they cause their attacker fear! Sounds like the utopia for criminals, and if someone outside of the U.K. published a book with this situation as the plot, you would find that most libraries would mistakenly place in the 'fiction' section! And remember, This explosion in crime ALL started with "The Sensible first step")
A $1000.00 REWARD FOR SWAN KILLERS!
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters, (O.F.A.H.), Ontario's largest nonprofit conservation based organization, is furious over the recent discovery of two dead trumpeter Which appear to have been killed intentionally. "The O.F.A.H. has been a proud supporter of Harry Lumsden's Ontario Trumpeter Swan Restoration Group", said Mike Reader, O.F.A.H. Executive Director. "The senseless killing of these birds was a sad and completely unnecessary occurrence, particularly since the swans are endangered species which are entitled to special protection".  Mr. Reader also expressed his serious concern over a local newspaper report, which suggested without apparent justification that hunters killed the birds. "Hunters are Overwhelmingly law-abiding citizens and extremely responsible and respectful of wildlife. No responsible hunter would shoot a bird out of season, let alone one which is an endangered species for which there is no hunting season". The O.F.A.H. is offering a $1,000.00 reward for information leading to the conviction of whoever committed this crime and is challenging other conservation groups across the province to do the same.(Carrying a gun in the woods, does NOT make you a "hunter"! Without the 'ethics' and knowledge that come with responsible 'hunting' practices, you are simply a 'Jerk in the woods with a gun',  no different than the 'Punk in the city with a gun' and should be treated EXACTLY the same way! If you know who this/these idiot are, turn them in, their not worth one second of  hesitation. Then, donate the $1000.00 to the Trumpeter Swan Restoration project!)
GUN REGISTRY LUNACY DOESN'T STOP
In case there was ever any doubt the lunatics are running the asylum in the nation's capital, the Liberal government's latest plan to correct its billion-dollar gun-registry boondoggle certainly has all the signs of public management by moonbeams and medication. After much careful thought and consideration of Fraser's report, Justice Minister Martin Cauchon has announced he is going to fix the problem by making it someone else's headache.  As of April 1, the Canadian Firearms Centre is being transferred from the Justice Department to the RCMP. In a recent op-ed piece in the Globe and Mail, Dixon recalled: "One thing I immediately wanted to know was how many Canadians owned Ruger Mini-14s (the gun used by the Montreal murderer)."The Mini-14 came into production about the same time the FAC system was introduced, so the FAC should have a good picture of the gun's distribution."But when our team asked the RCMP for the information, we couldn't get it. Computers were down; the information hadn't been entered yet; there weren't enough staff to process the request; there was a full moon. "After a week, I said I didn't want excuses. I wanted the records. Then a very senior person sat me down and told me the truth. "The RCMP had stopped accepting FAC records, and had actually destroyed those it already had. The FAC registry system didn't exist because the police thought it was useless and refused to waste their limited budgets maintaining it. They also moved to ensure their political masters could not resurrect it." On second thought, turning over the long gun registry to the RCMP might not be such a bad idea after all. (Happy Easter? I think Not!)
Martin's assets are big targets
Then there is the bus company Mr. Martin owns that offers hourly service between Ottawa and Montreal. The bus industry has been very critical of the federal government because it believes grants to Via Rail are subsiding their opposition. Where would the prime minister come down on those? He might use the rail-subsidy program to demonstrate he would put the common good ahead of his own financial interests.NDP Leader Jack Layton's complaint that Martin ships had a contract to carry coal to an Indonesian generating plant was particularly specious. One may well question doing business in Indonesia. To suggest CSL ships should not carry coal because that coal might create pollution is akin to saying the Ford Motor Co. should cease making cars because some of their models may be used by criminals as getaway cars.(Or for example putting a onerous and restrictive burden on law abiding hunters, target shooters and firearms manufacturers, "because some of their models may be used by criminals"! If it sounds ridiculous when applied to Martin, why do 'some' people not think it also sounds ridiculous when applied to 'legally owned private property' and Canadian citizens in general? "Blind Trust" is actually what the liberals 'expect' from the Canadian 'Sheeple' )
Angry? Try a quick flash, the whole world's doing it
In the past few years, we have seen three women strip and cover themselves with fake blood outside the Sydney meeting of the World Trade Organisation, a group of pagans cavorting topless at a G8 meeting in Calgary, Canada, a couple of anti-fur protesters going nude in Beijing, and animal liberationists marching naked during the running of the bulls in Pamplona. All this leads one to wonder what new forms of nude protest we'll see. Will unions opt for a mass streak rather than a strike? Will pro-censorship campaigners get naked to promote their fight against porn? Will the sporting shooters get out their weapons in order to protect their guns? Next time the neighbour's dog barks all night, will banging on their door naked make any difference?(I can see it Now!! Hordes of gun control freaks, naked, and storming parliament. Wendy in the lead, nipples pointed squarely at the ground, waving a script from  'The naked gun', demanding that everyone be kept ignorant and safe from the proliferation of what ever the hell she is babbling about! Good Grief!! Help me... Shield my eyes before I go blind!!)
Moore is 'Still' Less!
Michael Moore's award-winning Bowling For Columbine is playing for packed houses in Paris these days, where I finally saw it. It's a topical movie to see at a time when the whole world is waiting for the war to begin. And it plays well to French suspicions about America. The world needs pamphleteers and Michael Moore fits the bill, although the least we can say is that subtlety is not his strong suit. Mr. Moore made sure that the facts wouldn't get in the way of his theory about Canada. He didn't bother to visit overcrowded emergency wards or cancer patients waiting for treatment. As for the locks on the doors, maybe Canadians don't lock their doors in rural areas, but I never met anybody, either in Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, who doesn't lock their doors. (A recent survey by Leger Marketing actually showed that 58 per cent of Ontarians keep their doors locked even during the day.) The uncontrolled spread of firearms is, with the death penalty, the worst aspect of American culture. But I would have found Mr. Moore's denunciation more interesting if he hadn't systematically twisted the truth to drive home his point.(While Moore was filming his 'Bowling for Columbine Shockumentary', he let slip his REAL feelings on Gun Control. These 'feelings' have since, mysteriously vanished from his website after the movie became popular. His comments clashed remarkably with his own statements in the film. The Quote he made, was shortly after September 11th, and here it is 'verbatim': "This started out as a documentary on gun violence in America, but  the largest mass murder in our history was just committed --  without the use of a single gun! Not a single bullet fired! No bomb was set off, no missile was fired, no weapon (i.e., a device that  was solely and specifically manufactured to kill humans) was used. A boxcutter! -- I can't stop thinking about this. A thousand gun control laws would not have prevented this massacre. What am I doing?"It's very obvious what your doing, it called  'MAKING MONEY' with Hypocrisy!)
Tory boss has vision for post-war Canada
(Canoe Link: Will Vanish in 24hrs or less)
"Several countries that aren't superpowers have solid credentials in international development, mediation, policing, peacekeeping, institution-building. Canada is one of them," said Clark. Of course, those credentials are virtually all from our past. In the past 10 years of Chretien's imperious reign, Canada has fallen from being the top UN peacekeeping nation to the 31st, falling behind countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, India, Ghana, Kenya, Jordan, Uruguay, Ukraine, Australia and even tiny Nepal. According to retired Maj.-Gen. Lewis MacKenzie, Canada had about 5,000 UN peacekeepers stationed around the world back in 1993. As of January, 2003 there were just 262 Canadian UN peacekeepers. It is to weep. Chretien will say the cuts to defence spending were necessary  because everything else was being cut.  "Everything except the gun registry. Everything except the multiple payments to Groupaction for reports that don't exist. Everything except the Shawinigate  loans," huffs Clark. (The Liberal Government has, starting with Trudeau,  systematically dismantled our military, their morale, and the respect of most other countries around the world. While our 'leader' is currently an  embarrassment to all Canadians, we have the international status of a third world democracy, and a $0.60 dollar. All thanks to the Liberals!)
Mike Duffy: The great wits of parliament
It's been 23 years since we last heard the voice of "The Chief" -- John Diefenbaker, the wicked wit of thhe West. But now out of Medicine Hat rides Canadian Alliance MP Monte Solberg: the bard from Alberta!:
Mr. Speaker, this is the story of the Liberal Party and the several dwarfs. The head of the dwarfs, whose name is Shifty, wanted to retire and many of the other dwarfs were eager to replace him. One Newfoundland dwarf, named Fishy, was very interested but he had a falling out with Shifty and Fishy left politics. Then there was this Lake Toronto lawyer dwarf, whose name is Oily. But Oily was the author of several policy disasters and Oily withdrew from the race. The Hamilton dwarf, Scary, is hoping to roll up the rim to win. Lord help us all. The Ottawa dwarf is grumpy, and that is his name too. Grumpy recently showed up at a day care and the kids, well, they are in therapy. Finally there is the shipping magnate dwarf. His name is Richie. Richie is embroiled in an ethics controversy and apparently has entered the witness protection program because no one can find him; either that, or Shifty gave him the Shawinigan handshake and they will never find his body. But no matter of the outcome of the race to replace Shifty, it is an unhappy ending for Canadians."I count only six "dwarfs" -- but in the world of political show bizz, that's close enough.(Ahhh but unfortunately, for all the other creatures that live in the Canadian woods, when ANY of  'Shifty's' band of dwarfs look deep into the mirror, mirror on the wall, It continues to make the same proclamation: "Objects in Mirror are 'still' Dumber Than Then They Appear!")
Gun Violence Costs Canadian Communities Say Victims' Groups
     and Public Health Experts
Ottawa, Ontario - Families of victims of gun crime and their representatives joined public health organizations at a news conference today (February 26th) to remind the government of the high costs of gun violence in Canadian communities and the importance of keeping Canada's gun laws strong, despite the controversy generated by the Auditor General's report released last December.(Just for the record: Expert= 'Ex' meaning has been, or not anymore! and a 'Spurt' is always a little drip under presure. Nobody disputes that there are victims of violence, and 'some' are victims of violence with firearms, but the numbers are not worth the ridiculous amount of money  the government is spending, while at the same time forgoing valid ways to control crime from other means. In 2001 out of 21,751 robberies there were 9,048 injuries. Weapons 'other' than guns = 40% of those injuries, and physical force resulted in 51% of the injuries.. Guns 'of all types' were responsible for less than 10%. Other crimes show virtually the same numbers. The problem is CLEARLY not guns, the problem is violence in general, and means the governments spending priorities are based on POLITICS NOT FACTS)
Take lesson from disarming of British citizens
As the horrible consequences of gun control play out today in Great Britain, it is important to remember that this dilemma started with the euphemistic "sensible first step." It began with firearms training requirements and government-mandated storage standards, progressed to home inspections and gun owner licensing, continued with the registration of firearms and their owners and culminated in firearms confiscation. Each "sensible" step was followed by another step, and yet another, until law-abiding gun owners were forced into the final step -- forfeiting their personal property and, with it, their means of defending themselves and their families. After suffering every gun control scheme that prohibitionists could devise, the British are now suffering from a surging wave of violent gun crimes and armed criminals are responsible. How could this happen?(The inevitable consequences of the "Sensible first step' have been played out all over the world. No One, or No Country has ever been made safer by the banning of guns! Banning creates a 'uncontrollable' black market, and the proliferation of armed criminals to take advantage of the 'now unarmed' law abiding citizen. It has NEVER worked,  ANYWHERE in the world. Legal Guns are not a problem in Canada, and C-68 is simple a poorly written, billion dollar attempt to control a non existent problem)
