News Archives for August, 2001 August 31, 2001![]() Hoody Hoo!!! Mikeeze Wurld has been awarded the prestigious Brian Award for Data, News and Information excellence on a website by the kind folks over at www.kodt.com! I would like to take a moment to thank the Academy and all the great people that have sent in stuff for me to post. I would especially like to thank Douglas Curtis for all the wonderful artwork that he has sent in. Speaking of people sending kewl stuff, Stephen De Chellis has sent me his latest version of his Excel Character Generator It's pretty neat, so check it out. David Kenzer has posted a few interesting tibits on the Critical Hit system in the upcoming GM's Guide. Here's what he had to say: "We're still diligently working out the kinks in the new 4e crit tables. Mainly, we're trying to lessen the number of die rolls, b ut still maintain the variety. You need a 20 for a crit. hit. 1 is a fumble. Crit hits vary by weapon type (puncturing, hacking, crushing - each have separate chart); size difference between attacker and defender (a club-wielding giant will not hit a dwarf as often in the knee as on the top of the head); ability of attacker (kobold less likely to get severe results than, say, a Swak Iron Dragon); AC of defender. The final result will provide a specific location to the hit as well as various game effects (like minuses to dex for a smashed knee or minuses to comeliness for broken nose) in addition to damage bonuses. Profuse bleeding, immediate morale checks, this baby has it all. Right now there's 2970 unique results...per weapon type!" August 27, 2001 ![]() More new monsters are online. Check 'em out:
The poll results are in and your favorite new rule for 4th edition is a tie between the 20 point kicker to hit points and the honor point system. Here are the full results:
"Rest assured Hackmaster was a huge hit for us and we plan on supporting the product line for a long time to come. In fact, HOB 3 should be out in a few weeks, then the GM Screen and then the GMG itself in late October. Hopefully we'll have some HackMaster miniatures (they're going to be beautiful by the way) out by December." Sigh... And I was hoping that the GM's Guide would be coming out in September. Oh well, time to update my release schedule page again. August 23, 2001 Lots of great new monsters have arrived! Check 'em out:
After finally getting HOB#2, I saw that my Cadaver Dawg was a little too much like the Death Dawg (causing a rotting disease and all), so I modified it. Now it causes paralysis just like a ghoul, which actually was the original idea anyway. I got the idea simply from the name "Cadaver Dog". You know... the dogs that are used to sniff out bodies in disaster areas. I have always thought that was a very kewl name, although in a kinda sick way. It is also the name of my unofficial Warhammer 40k marine chaptor - the Cadaver Dogs! August 21, 2001 Yet another new critter submitted by "Dug". Check out the Gronk! Also, he was kewl enough to send in illustrations for the Mad Bomber, Beastman, and Cadaver Dawg. August 19, 2001 Another new monster has been added to the pit. This time it is the Grizzlock by the ever-amazing Douglas Curtis. He also sent in a great illustration for the Forest Guardian! ![]() August 16, 2001 Here's a quote from David Kenzer on the release dates for the remaining Hacklopedia volumes- We've made some adjustments to the HOB release schedule that I thought you guys might like to see. HOB3 on the presses right now - last week of August/1st 2 weeks of September depending. HOB4 Late September/early October HOB5 Late October/early November HOB6 Late November/early December HOB7 Late January HOB8 Late February Armed with this new info, I have updated my release schedule page for HackMaster. August 14, 2001 Two new monsters are up! The Mad Bomber by Paul Backstrom and the Cadaver Dawg is a little invention of my own. Give 'em a try! If you're like me (and I pity you if you are) and you like old HackMaster stuff by the Judges Guild, take a look at the Judges Guild Codex. They have info on pretty much everything that Judges Guild every published. August 12, 2001 Ok, I finally got a new poll up. This time, vote for your favorite new addition to the rules. Once again I was unable to purchase Hacklopedia #2 from any local Weird Petes. This is the last straw! I have gone far out of my way to try to support my local game stores and have gotten squat! Out of the five stores within driving distance to me (I live in Palm Beach county, Florida), only one store stocks all of the HackMaster products and they were sold out. Three other stores are only carrying the Player's Handbook. And the last store still doesn't carry HackMaster at all! Argh!!! For now on, I will do all of my future business online. August 8, 2001 Two new monsters! The Breeti by Douglas Curtis and the Thieving Blackshell by Scott Peters & Douglas Curtis. And to top it off, Doug (or "Dug") has even submitted a great illustration of the H.G.S.W.! The quality (and quantity) of these new monsters is just astounding. They easily equal or surpass most of the stuff that I have seen published for 3rd edition in creativity and play value. David Kenzer reply to the recent D20 rumblings- Fear not! KenzerCo doesn't even use the OGL! We have direct license agreements with Wizards...if I'm not mistaken, Ryan signed them himself, or at least his name was on them for signature. August 7, 2001 Yet another new monster! Douglas Curtis has sent me another of his warped creations. This time it is the Ooloth. Dug is a pretty damn good artist as well. ![]() There's trouble brewing in D20 land folks. Take a look at this rant on D20 publishers from Ryan Dancy. This kind of action by WOTC could really kill the D20 marketplace as well as a lot of game publishers. I certainly hope that Kenzer & Co. is not one of the companies that is breaking the Open Gaming License. August 6, 2001 Two new monsters came in today! The Calovaer by Douglas Curtis and the Cannon Fodder by Brian D. Casey. Douglas was even kewl enough (and talented enough) to send in a picture of his new beastie! ![]() It looks like I am going to have to find a new poll service as the one I was using is not working right now. Sigh... August 5, 2001 When Paul Backstrom suggested that I add a section to the site for new HackMaster monsters, I thought it was a great idea. Then Paul was good enough to send in not one, but three new monsters! And with how nasty these guys are, I almost feel sorry for the players in his campaign. Almost... So, if you have some ideas for a new monster, write it up and send it in The poll results are in, and the Gnome Titans are your favorite new race! These groin-stomping little guys won with an impressive 31% of the vote. Here are the full results:
August 2, 2001 I've added parent generation to my Character Prior's Generator, so check it out and see whether or not you need therapy for your crappy childhood. Here is a brief review of the Hacklopedia #2 that I found out on the net. It doesn't go into much detail, but hey, what do you want for free? | ![]() | Home Articles Downloads Monster Pit News Archives Release Schedule Spell Shoppe Tavern Programs Character Stats Character Priors Dice Roller Random Dungeons Random Names Random Villages |
