Poseidon

As a two year old, his form was only moderate, winning one race from six starts.  He won his first two starts as a three year old and went on to become one of the best three year olds to race in Australia.  In his three year old season he won 11 of his 14 races including the 1906 Melbourne Cup, the Caulfield Cup, VRC and AJC Derbies and VRC and AJC St Legers.  Poseidon as a four year old again won the Eclipse Stakes followed by his second Caulfield Cup.  With the steadier of 10st 3lbs in the Melbourne Cup he was unable to beat his stablemate, Apologue, and finished well back in eighth place.

POITREL was owned and bred by W & F A Moses at Arrowfield Stud, NSW.  He was a plain horse wth shelly feet and parrot mouth. He had two runs as a two year old but was not prominent, giving the impression he may develop into a stayer.  At his first race as a three year old he finished on strongly into fifth over a mile at Randwick.  From then on he improved steadily but his greatest win was probably the 1920 Melbourne Cup with 10 stone.  One of his most gallant races was his second in the 1920 Sydney Cup.  Altogether Poitrel won 15 races, twice dead-heated for first, was second on three occasions and third 3 times.
