ROGILLA was bred by Mr Hunter White at one of the most historic studs in Australia, Havilah, and raced on lease by his trainer, Les Haigh.  He did not race as a two year old, and won his first race as a three year old at Menangle.  He won twenty races, five dead-heats, 11 seconds and 11 thirds.  One of his dead-heats with with Chatham in the Tramway Handicap at Randwick.  Although a better horse over one and a half miles, he did win the two miles Sydney Cup, but failed to Peter Pan in the Melbourne Cup.  He also won the W S Cox Plate, the Caulfield Cup and numerous other events at weight for age.  He had quite a few races against Peter Pan and was "aged" when he twice beat him in the one season at Randwick in the Chelmsford Stakes and Spring Stakes.

Peter Pan

PETER PAN was a handsome, tall light chestnut with silver mane and tail.  He was bred by Mr R R Dangar whose colours he carried throughout his career.  He had one unsuccessful start as a two year old and at his first start as a three year old dead-heated in a Novice Maiden at Warwick Farm.  He then won the 1932 Hill Stakes at Rosehill from Nightmarch before winning the AJC Derby.  He was beaten into fourth place by Rogilla in the Caulfied Cup, won the Melbourne Stakes from Rogilla and won the 1932 Melbourne Cup after nearly falling during the run.  After a spell he won the Randwick Stakes, AJC St Leger, Cumberland Plate and AJC Plate.  He raced only six times as a four year old due to a rheumatic complaint, winning two races (Autumn Plate and Cumberland Plate).

As a five year old, he again won the Melbourne Stakes before carrying 9st 10 lb to victory in the 1934 Melbourne Cup to beat Hall Mark.  He won numerous weight for age races and ran in the 1935 Melbourne Cup as a six year old but was unplaced.  He raced 38 times for 22.1/2 wins, 6 seconds and 1 third.  At stud he was mostly restricted to mares owned by Mr Dangar but sired Precept, winner of the VRC Derby and Peter (Williamstown Cup).
