DiscoDHL's Top 30 Disco Songs

These are the songs I'd most like to hear and dance to at a discotheque.

1. Stayin' Alive- Bee Gees (For pulse-pounding dancing beat, this one is the ultimate.)
2. Manhattan Skyline- David Shire (I still don't know why they didn't release this one as a single. Absolutely thrilling instrumental arrangement.)
3. You Should Be Dancing- Bee Gees (Could you find a disco freak who HASN'T wanted to learn Travolta's routine to that song?)
4. Disco Inferno- Trammps (No disco dancer could resist being able to dance to a great disco song for eleven minutes straight.)
5. Rock Your Baby- George McCrae (This might be called "pre-disco", but it has the traditional KC & the Sunshine Band sound since it was produced by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch. The long version is better.)
6. Flashdance... What A Feeling- Irene Cara (This came a couple of years after "the disco era", but it is definitely disco. The long version is better.)
7. Disco Duck- Rick Dees & His Cast Of Idiots (Totally stupid lyrics, great beat.)
8. (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty- KC & the Sunshine Band (Every disco freak's gotta love KC.)
9. Get Down Tonight- KC & the Sunshine Band (One of the first true disco songs. The long version is better.)
10. Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel- Tavares (Great driving rhythm section. The long version is best.)
11. YMCA- Village People (Again, the longer version is better)
12. Night Fever- Bee Gees (Those Bee Gees really knew their disco!)
13. Star Wars Theme/ Cantina Band- Meco (I haven't found a better "discofication" of a song yet! The shorter version is better because the long one sometimes reduces to just a bass and drum beat to play "lightsaber fighting" sequences which are boring)
14. That's the Way (I Like It)- KC & the Sunshine Band (Yet again, the long version is the best.)
15. Tragedy- Bee Gees (The musical arrangement on that song is fantastic.)
16. September- Earth, Wind & Fire (A bit faster than most disco songs- makes for a high-energy dance.)
17. A Fifth Of Beethoven- Walter Murphy (This is the second best discofication of another song. Truly a classic- Beethoven would be pleased.)
18. Le Freak- Chic (Did you know that when the members of Chic wrote this song, they were angry at the owners of Studio 54 and "Freak out!" was originally "F@*% off!"?)
19. Dancing Queen- Abba (This would be further up my list if it didn't remind me of an ex-girlfriend.)
20. Star Love- Cheryl Lynn (The long version is better- gotta love that percussion section!)
21. Souvenirs- Voyage (Unique Euro-Disco sound. The long version is better.)
22. MacArthur Park- Donna Summer (The musical accompaniment really moves along with the beat. I'd like to hear the "Suite" version.)
23. It's Raining Men- The Weather Girls (This song has some of the most emphatic singing ever in a disco song.)
24. Macho Man- Village People (The theme song of every wannabe bodybuilder who can dance.)
25. Dance, Dance, Dance (Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah)- Chic (Chic's breakthrough song- great pounding drums!)
26. Boogie Oogie Oogie- A Taste Of Honey (Too bad A Taste Of Honey only had a taste of success- this song is great for dancing!)
27. Hot Stuff/Bad Girls- Donna Summer (The two songs are good individually, but the 12-inch mix that blends them both together into a medley over 11 minutes long is awesome.)
28. Boogie Wonderland- Earth, Wind & Fire w/ The Emotions ("I find romance when I start to dance in Boogie Wonderland..." Great orchestral backup!)
29. I Will Survive- Gloria Gaynor (Some people say this song is overplayed, but they still get up to dance whenever it comes on.)
30. Knock On Wood- Amii Stewart (Another great discofication of an older song- awesome beat to dance to!)

JUST A NOTE: The previous was done ENTIRELY by DiscoDHL; the only reason I have his list here is because (besides the fact I'm too lazy/scatterbrained to do one myself) I agree with the songs that are included on this list.

If you have a Top Disco Songs List, please send it here to BallODisco@aol.com! We'd love to see it, and hey, it could be the next list to be added here at the Extravaganza!

Before you start whipping up your list, though, go home!
