The Cadet's who attend Starfleet Academy, where ever they may be, whilst on duty (whether in a classroom or on field assignments) adhere to the same kind of strict dress code as the rest of Starfleet.
To keep Cadet's up to speed with the rest of the organisation, they have there own specific uniforms, that reflect the duty uniforms worn by line officers. The differences between Cadet and Fleet Duty Uniforms include: the Cadet uniform's main body is a light grey; it has a utility pocket on the left thigh; the undershirt is light grey; and the departmental colours have been shifted onto the shoulders on the uniform.
Only recently have cadets been given departmental colours and this has been due to an unfortunate spin off from war; cadets were called on to serve in the field during the Dominion War and it was neccessary for cadets to be identified departmentally along with the rest of the personnel.
