Starfleet has encountered some of the greatest threats to its existance in the past two decades, and has consequently designed rugged, durable, yet fairly comfortable uniforms for use in front line battles.
For camoflage reasons, the uniforms are almost all black, with only the departmental colours being shown in the bands around the chest. The uniform includes standard Starfleet issue boots, as well as a normal communicator. Normal t-shirts and vests that accompany the duty uniform are often worn.
Given the likelihood of exposing the uniform to many brutal environments for possibly extended periods of time, it provides protection from the elements as well as helping to keep it's wearer warm and comfortable.
Although not used on a daily basis - normally only during planetary engagements - it is safe to say that these uniforms will be used in future conflicts.
