Over many years the standard duty uniform has developed from jump suits, through shirts and trousers, and back to jump suits again by the 2360's. However with ever increasing hostilities the thin duty uniforms of the early 2360's have developed through many stages to become an optionally quad-layered uniform.

As is so often the case with Starfleet uniforms, they are comfortable and hard wearing, as has been demonstrated in many engagements, and they project a much more militaristic style to Starfleet than was present only a decade earlier. The familiar departmental colours have existed since the 2150's and are now displayed on the undershirt and on the outer layer's cuffs.
The four layers comprise of an outer duty jacket, an optional waistcoat, a departmental undershirt and a grey vest/T-shirt. This four layer ensemble ensures that should the situation arise, the uniform allows for a variety of combinations to suit its wearers needs. As with many other uniforms the duty uniform is completed with a pair of standard issue boots.
It's uncertain when Starfleet R+D will feel it neccessary to change the uniforms style again, however Starfleet officers can be confident that they will be up to the test of exploration.
