American Episode 30:  "Sparks Fly for Magnemite"
    Pokemon Dare Da?  Coil
Japanese Air Date:  October 21st, 1997
American Air Date:  October 16th, 1998
Important Places:  Gunjyon City (Gringey City)

Satoshi and the gang arrive in Gunjyo City, a city covered in pollution.  Satoshi plans to move through as quickly as he can, but Pikachu falls ill and must be attended to.  Joi says that Pikachu just has a cold, and can be quickly revived.  Meanwhile, a bunch of Betobetaa swim to a drain pipe of a hydroelectric plant, blocking the water intake valve.  With the blocked valve, the generators can't work and the power goes out throughout the city.  Satoshi runs to ask for directions, leaving Pikachu behind at the Pokemon Center to rest.  It doesn't want to be separated from Satoshi and insists on following them.

Satoshi and the gang go into the power plant.  They explore, finding it almost empty, when they notice something following them.  It's a Coil, and it's attracted to Pikachu.  Suddenly, Satoshi smells a horrible odor-it's Betobetaa!  A bunch of the sludge pokemon come down from a vent in the ceiling along with its leader, a Betobeton.  They chase Satoshi and the gang when they run into the only two people working in the plant.  They run into the control room and find out if they get rid of the Betobetaa, the power will be restored.  The sludge pokemon corner the gang and all seems lost when a bunch of Coil and Reacoil enter the room!  Their combined electric shock is enough to defeat all the Betobetaa and restore the power back to the plant.  There's still one more Betobeton left, but with Pikachu's help Satoshi is able to capture it.

Outside, Pikachu is feeling better.  Its cold was due to an access of built-up electricity, but after releasing it on the Betobeton it felt better.  Because it's no longer magnetized, Coil isn't interested in Pikachu anymore.  Suddenly, the Rocket Dan's mecha-Gyarados pops up from the water.  Thinking Pikachu's still magnetized, they plan to use a "Super Magnet Turbo Dash" to attract Pikachu, but it only winds up attracting a bunch of Coil.  They electrocute the mech-Gyrados, sending it sinking into the ocean.  Satoshi leaves the city after sending Betobeton to Dr. Ookido.

Not much to say about this episode.  The only change I can think of is with the name of the Mecha-Gyarados's weapon:  it's High-Powered Electro-Magnet in the dub, and a SUUPAA MAGUNETTO TURBO DASSHU (Super Magnet TURBO Dash).

Pocket Monsters was not created by me.  It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo.  Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon.  No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site.  All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!).
