The Bagot name has several spelling over the years either using a combination of either
one or two "g"s and / or one or two "t"s: Baggot, Bagott, or Baggot etc.

Patrick Bagot (died 1573) of Bagotstown, Co Limerick, was a descendant of a junior
line of the Bagot Ballymoe, Co Galway, whose direct ancestor was Robert Bagod
(born 1213), Lord Chief Justiciary of Ireland, 1274. Patrick married in 1540, Maria
O'Dwyer. Their descendant
Edward Bagot (1620-1711) lived at Walterstown, Co Kildare, Ireland. He married
(1659) Catherine Colborne and had 5 children of which Christopher (born about
1663) married Catherine Fitzgerald of Kilmead, Co Kildare. Their son
John Bagot (born about 1698 and died 1753) of Nurney, Co Kildare, married on 26
Aug 1736 Alice Browne
(died 1756) of Riverstown, Co Kildare. Their eldest
daughter Temperence
Bagot married James Hoysted in 1754.
The Bagot and Hoysted families were very close and during the rebellion of 1798, they
helped each other in the taking and defence of Monasterevan town (Co Kildare) from
the United Irishmen.
A son of John and Alice Browne was Christopher Bagot whose wife was Elizabeth
Clibborn
, a descendant of the Clibborns Moate, Co Westmeath. Their ancestor John
came from Cliburn, England with the Army of the Parliament and settled at Moate, Co
Westmeath.
