The name Hoysted may also be found with the spelling Hoystead.

The Hoysted family has be greatly researched by the Australian descendants. In my
records, I start with Thomas Hoysted who married and had a son Thomas of Mount
Opheily, Co Kildare, Ireland. He married Rose (possibly surname Naughton) and had
nine children.

The youngest was James Hoysted of Foxhill, Co Kildare who married Temperence
Bagot in 1754. They had two sons:

Frederick William Hoysted (1759-1818), Lt. Col of the 58th Regiment. He
commanded the Monasterevan (Co Kildare) Yeomanry during the rebellion of 1798.
It is from his brother,

John Hoysted (born ca 1755 and died ca 1808) that many of the Hoysted family world
wide descend.

John married twice; firstly Anne Richardson by whom he had eleven children of which
the eldest daughter Temperence married Mark Toomey. By his second wife, Sarah
Rawson, he had another four daughters.

Of some of the other children the marriage of John and Anne Richardson,

* Alicia (born 1782) married Richard Fenton and had with others, Temperence
Fenton.

* John (born 1788), attended the wedding of Jane Kelly and Mark Toomey. He
married twice and had in total 17 children, some of whom or their descendants
emigrated to Australia.

* William (born 1792) married Caroline Boyle Minchin and had 3 children.

* Thomas Edward (born 1790) emigrated to Canada.
