KID IS RAILROADED INTO HARD LABOR IN A TOWN CALLED PROSPERITY...

Cody and Kid are on a special run. On the way back, they stop by a town called Prosperity. Cody wants to have some fun at the saloon, so he persuades Kid come in with him. When he gets an offer from one of the girls, Cody leaves Kid at the bar drinking sarsaparilla. One of the saloon girls, Tulsa, approaches the Kid and asks him to buy her drink. But the Kid says no. Tulsa then persuades Kid to escort her to the roulette table. Tulsa won the round but was cheated. Kid, of course, demanded that the lady be paid. The man in charge of the roulette tries to hit Tulsa so the Kid hits him first. When the owner of the saloon came, Kid was thrown into jail with a five-day sentence.

Cody goes to the Kid but there's nothing much he can do, so he goes home to Sweetwater. Kid, on the other hand, provokes the sheriff and ends up doing "hard time." "Hard time" in these part means disappearing from the face of the earth and spending the rest of your life working in a mine owned by the saloon owner, Whitcomb.

Kid meets a black man named Hinton, a young Indian and a guy named Richard inside the prison camp. Richard is Tulsa's husband. The other's have an escape plan and Kid didn't want to join at first, but when his desperate situation becomes more apparent, he decides to take a risk. But the guards knew of their plan and Hinton was killed. Meanwhile, Tulsa becomes Whitcomb's lover after the saloon owner promised to free Richard. Together, they visit the prison camp and Whitcomb taunts Richard about sharing his wife's bed.

In Sweetwater, the riders become worried over the Kid. Cody says there's a sign outside town which proclaims how friendly it is but the town gave him the creeps. Together with Marshall Cain, they all ride off towards Prosperity.

Another man joins Kid and company. He is a wrangler who was supposedly caught stealing tobacco. They tell him about their experience inside the prison camp but he doesn't believe them, pretty sure that he will be out soon. They tell him about Hinton's death. Richard talks to Kid about him trying to warn Hinton about the danger of their escape plans. When Kid asked him what he meant, Richard didn't answer. Later, Kid finds Richard dead. He hung himself and in his suicide note confessed to telling the guards about the group's escape plan.

The riders reach Prosperity but find the jail cell empty. The sheriff tells them Kid left early morning and was already on his way back to Sweetwater. Lou tells Sam that if Kid already left, they would have met up with him outside town. Sam also learns that a lot of drifters disappear in this part of the country.

The riders go into the saloon and Cody meets with Tulsa who tells them about the Kid's fate. The riders go to the prison camp and spring Kid and the other men. They return to Prosperity for a show-down with the corrupt sheriff. Tulsa, on the other hand, kills Whitcomb.
