SAM AND EMMA'S LOVE IS THREATENED BY THE ARRIVAL OF EMMA'S ERRANT HUSBAND...

A wagon train headed towards Salt Lake City is ambushed by a gang. The attackers kill everybody including the women and children and steal all their possessions. Only two survive the ambush -- a man named Krandall and a woman. The woman is badly hurt and dies, but not before she tells Krandall where the box containing the dead people's prized possessions is.

In Sweetwater, Marshall Sam Cain takes a break from his duties and attempts to fix Emma's window. The riders make fun of his efforts saying he's got no future in carpentry.

Krandall arrives in Sweetwater. Cody and Kid see him at the saloon. Cody, impressed by the man's buckskin's, approaches him and tries to talk to him. But Krandall, after witnessing the massacres, is in no mood for small talk. Before he leaves, he gives Cody and Kid the wood carving he was working on when they arrived -- a miniature wagon. At supper that night, Cody and Kid show the other riders the miniature wagon. Emma sees it and asks the two to describe the man they met. Cody says the man looked like he has been to hell and back, prompting Kid to add that he ain't sure the man ever made it back. Emma goes out and Jimmy follows her. Jimmy observes that Cody's story seems to have bothered Emma. She admitted that it reminded her of someone she used to know.

The next day, Krandall shows up at Emma's place. It turns out he is Emma's long-lost husband, Evan. Though Emma tells him he's got no right to being there, she lets him stay on with her for a while. Her decision angers Marshall Sam Cain. The riders, on the other hand, become increasingly wary of Krandall especially after Jimmy tells them how he ran out on Emma when she and their baby came down with small pox.

Meanwhile, the gang who ambushed the wagon train are looking for Evan who, apparently, works for them. They learn of the existence of the chest filled with jewels and gold and they know that only Evan knows where it is so they track him down. Sam asks Emma to throw Krandall out but she says no and tells the Marshall that she owes her husband for saving her from herself. Evan finds a man named Comstock connected with the gang in his hotel room. He tells Comstock that he -- Krandall -- wants out but the man tells him that he ought to tell Sutro, the boss. Evan kills the man. Marshall Cain wants to keep Evan in prison but Emma tells him he has no right.

But the Marshall has become suspicious of Krandall especially after seeing a wanted poster that looked a lot like Emma's husband. Cain begins to ask around and finds out that Krandall has been selling stuff to get money and that the stuff he sells are personal things not belonging to him. Krandall gives Emma the deed to the station though he doesn't tell her how he got the money to pay off the debts. He tells Emma that he still loves her and hopes for a second chance. But Emma gives him none. The gang arrive in Sweetwater and heads for Emma Shannon's place. They ask for Krandall but of course, Sam and the riders wouldn't just give the man to them. A fire fight follows and the gang is defeated. But Evan is killed.
