TWO FOR ONE: CASSANDRA & SARAH GONE
This week's challenges prove to be too much for two girls to handle, but they are sent home for very different reasons. When confronted with the prospect of cutting one more inch off her hair for the photo shoot, Cassandra, the 19-year-old student from Houston, Texas, leaves the house of her own volition. Later, following a tough signature walk challenge during panel, Sarah, the 18-year-old fragrance counter representative from Boonville, Missouri, and Kim, the 21-year-old student from New York, New York, are put up for elimination. Even though Kim irritates the judges by uttering a disclaimer before her attempt at a walk, Sarah is sent home for not being able to handle the pressure.

MODEL FACES
After the panel in which Ebony was sent home, the girls gather to decompress, and Tyra pays them a visit. She reveals something about the decision-making process: "It was really difficult for the judges. I think it's because you're all so strong and so unique. You all have that model face."

The following day, everyone is brought to stand around a gorgeous pool, and Sarah hopes that they'll be able to spend the day relaxing in the sun. That dream is blown to pieces when Miss J. arrives wearing a swimsuit, cape, bathing cap and glittery slippers. It's time to walk; the challenge will be to strut fiercely poolside in heels. After a practice run, each girl selects a crazy hat and skirt to wear while dancing around the pool. Once everyone has had a turn, J. points out that Sarah and Kim are the worst of the bunch, and that they'll have to work extra hard to prove themselves.

Back at the house, both Kim and Sarah practice walking with the other girls, but neither seem to gain any confidence from their attempts. Bre thinks Kim should focus on her proficiency at wooing women and leave modeling to the rest of them.

IT'S STILL ABOUT HAIR
The next morning, the girls make breakfast, and the flirtation continues between Kim and Sarah. For Kim, it's not a new situation for a straight girl to have a crush on her, but Sarah is confused, since she's never been attracted to a woman before. Elsewhere in the house, Cassandra spends her morning on the phone with her mother. Her mom believes that hair is just vanity, and it will grow back, bluntly asking, "Do you love your hair more than you love this opportunity?"

Later, the girls arrive at a studio and meet Sue Wong, designer of dramatic evening wear. They will have to walk a runway with a revolving platform at the end of it; Lisa is convinced the idea is insane. The winner will get to wear a gorgeous gown that Tyra wore to an event hosted by Oprah Winfrey. Tension is high, and most of the girls wobble as they step onto the moving platform. Bre, however, channels Dorothy Dandridge, and Sue believes her confidence and poise can take her far. Sarah struggles with a huge headpiece and dress train as she makes her way down the catwalk.

In the end, Bre is the clear winner, and she is thrilled to get to borrow the gown and go to dinner with four of her friends. She chooses Coryn, Kim, Nik and Jayla, and the five pile into the limo and head for a fancy restaurant. For dinner, they'll be having, of all things, caviar. Turns out it's not such a reward after all. Bre comments, "I want to be respectful, but I want to throw up."

Once back at the house after dinner, Kim and Sarah enjoy a moonlight swim on their own. Later, they get even closer for another late-night make-out session. Kim tries to make light of it to Bre, though she is clearly drawn to Sarah (and her blonde hair). Bre reminds Kim to "stick to reality." The next day, Sarah calls her boyfriend and doesn't reveal the whole truth, only that she's been spending a lot of time with Kim. She later confesses, "I feel very confused right now…. I have the memory of me, but it's so tangled right now, I don't know where I am or where I stand with anything."

HAIR, REVISITED
That afternoon, the girls arrive for their next photo shoot, and Jay Manuel explains that they'll be posing while running on a treadmill, though they won't know what they're running from. They'll also be what he calls fashion victims; in other words, there will be something just a little off about each ensemble. Jay then calls Cassandra and Jayla aside, revealing he wants them both to have another haircut. Jayla's hair extensions have to go, and she's fine with that, but Cassandra balks at having her hair cut shorter. Though Jay isn't happy with her behavior, he gives Cassandra a last chance to think it over during breakfast.

Nik gets started with her shoot first, and when Jay reminds her to look "scared and pretty," it works for her. Lisa has great body language, but her face doesn't come off well, while Diane has trouble showing fear in her poses. Coryn's stoic nature helps her keep it together. Sarah looks uncomfortable while running, and Bre surprises Jay by performing strongly. Kim just jogs on the platform, bringing no life to the shoot. Jay thinks Nicole is afraid to become the model she can be; Jayla's new haircut seems to free her, and she excels on the treadmill; Kyle doesn't do much other than pull on her hair and run.

Finally, Cassandra tells Jay she isn't going to cut her hair. "It was the last straw in them completely trying to change who I was." Jay is unsympathetic. "I really don't have time for this today, so you've just got to leave my set." With that, Cassandra gets a ride back to the house to pack her things and leave. "I'm going home. I'm going to go back to Texas, and I'm going to get some hair extensions. Hopefully you'll see me as a future Miss USA."

NO DODGING THE BULLET
After the shoot, the girls discuss the fact that Cassandra has left. The competition is heightened, in Lisa's mind, because someone who didn't want it badly enough is now out of the game. However, the girls are disappointed when Tyra Mail reveals there will still be an elimination the next day. Kim is convinced she's going home, but wants another couple of weeks to get up her game. Sarah recognizes that some girls who think they've performed badly have really done well in their pictures, so she has no idea who will be eliminated.

When it's time for panel, the girls file in and meet the judges, including guest judge Sue Wong. But before the evaluations begin, Tyra wants to discuss the fact that Cassandra has left the competition. "Being a model means being about to adapt to a whole variety of situations. Cassandra was more interested in holding on to one inch of her hair than learning and adapting." When Tyra asks anyone else who isn't willing to give their all during the rest of the competition to leave, no one steps forward.

This week's judging competition is based on former ANTM participant Camille's infamous statement back in Cycle 2: "This is my signature walk, and this is the walk that's going to make me famous." The girls must demonstrate their signature walks for the judges, and quickly they get started. The judges don't seem to approve of most of the walks, but Bre's gets a nod of approval from Sue. However, the judges are shocked when Kim makes a disclaimer about her walk, saying that her walk is terrible, but that she will improve. Once she departs, Tyra asks, "What was up with the disclaimer?" Nigel quips about her attitude, "Excuse me, I'm about to do really badly; don't judge me."

MISS J. IS SCARY, REALLY
When evaluations begin, Jayla is up first, and Tyra commends her for cutting off her hair for a new, sleeker 'do. When her photo comes up, the girls find out what they were running from during the shoot: it's Miss J., dressed as the Fashion Police Witch. Very scary.

While Jayla's walk was a little dull, her photo is not. In it, her expression is both pretty and scared, which is hard to pull off. Coryn is next: Nigel doesn't see anything signature about her walk, and J. would rather see her smile than pout. Her close-up is good, but her full shot is less athletic than the judges would have liked. Tyra tells Diane that she needs to create wind blowing in her hair during her walk, but that it hardly appears that she moved at all on the treadmill in her photo. Next is Kim, who explains that her walk is her biggest obstacle because she has yet to understand how to combine her feminine and masculine characteristics. Tyra explains that she wants to see a walk that is purely Kim, and suggests that she study some male fashion magazines to help her understand how male models capture femininity on the page. On the other hand, Kim's photo is amazing; it's her first in a straight-on pose.

Twiggy feels that Kyle gave the best walk of the day, but the angle of her face in her photo is too twisted to be flattering. Lisa is next, and Tyra thinks her walk needs a little more oomph. However, Lisa's neck has disappeared in her photo, so she needs to work on lengthening it in her pictures. Nicole follows, and her walk was off because her skirt began to slip down as she approached the panel. Unfortunately, her photo is bland, despite the fact that the camera loves her. As for Nik, Tyra recommends she work on the "wind in the hair" look during her walk, while her photo is good, but not great. Tyra and Sue both love Bre's signature walk, but Twiggy sees it as too horsey. Bre's photo seems to suggest to J. not running from something scary, but running to meet someone at the bus stop. Sarah manages to impress the judges by not falling down the stairs during her walk; she has definitely improved. However, her photo seems to suggest pain rather than fright, and Sue points out, "Poise is the operative word here. That's really what you need to work on."

PERSONALITY IN PICTURES
Deliberations begin with Coryn: Twiggy sees her inner sadness revealed in her pictures. Bre has great personality that doesn't translate to print, and J. feels Kyle lacks pop despite her beauty. Sarah has progressed far in her walk, Lisa's work seems contrived, and Nicole's period look is sexy. "Jayla's haircut saved the day for her," J. remarks, and Twiggy loves her picture. Diane is hopeless in person, Twiggy loves Kim but didn't like her speech, and when J. says Nik is like a girl from the projects with great hair, Nigel cracks, "I need to go to the projects more often."

When the girls return to hear the results, Tyra announces Jayla's name first. Next is Kyle, followed by Nik, Bre, Lisa, Diane, Coryn and Nicole. Sarah and Kim are left, and they step forward. Sarah seems already prepared to hear the bad news. Tyra realizes that because Sarah wants to model so badly, she falls apart under the pressure. On the other hand, Kim's desire to reveal her failings ahead of time has only served to draw the judges' attention to them. With that, Tyra gives Kim her picture, and Kim and Sarah embrace tightly before Sarah leaves to pack her bags.

Before she leaves, Sarah reveals, "I'm glad I came, and even though I didn't win, I learned things about myself, so it was worth it. Kim taught me a lot about myself, and I learned that I'm stronger than I thought I was…. Back to Boonville, I guess, and we'll see from there."
