DIANE'S GLIMMER FADES AWAY
The theme for the week is taking negative characteristics and turning them into positives, and the girls get some help from guest photographer and famed former ANTM judge Janice Dickinson. When it comes down to the final two, Bre, the 19-year-old student from Harlem, New York, and Diane, the 23-year-old criminal defense investigator from Orlando, Florida, stand before Tyra, and Diane is sent home because she isn't able to put her insecurities aside either in pictures or in person.
TAKING IT OFF
The girls' thoughts of Sarah's elimination are pushed aside when someone pulls out a camera and starts taking candid shots inside the house. Jayla has the bright idea of taking some topless photos, and photographer Diane exclaims, "This is getting serious!" as Nicole, Lisa, Bre and Jayla line up for their group shot. Diane feels uncertain about posing herself, knowing her body is different than those of the slimmer girls in the competition.
Later, the fur begins to fly between Lisa and Coryn. After Lisa has a few drinks, and "lets herself come out a little more" in Diane's words, she recommends to Coryn that she stop working out. Though Lisa reminds Coryn that the judges have said she's too muscular, Coryn has no interest in taking Lisa's advice.
NEGATIVE TO POSITIVE
The next day, the girls arrive at Smashbox, the home of LA Fashion Week. Jay says that this challenge will be about turning negative characteristics into positive ones. Twiggy arrives to help the girls understand this by telling the story of how she became the "It" girl of the 60s, despite the fact that modeling agencies of the time would have rejected her because of her unique look. She explains that the traits that make each girl unusual are the things she should capitalize on. When Bre mentions that she wants to be famous, Twiggy says she should instead be focusing on the present, and when Diane asks about looking too "porn star", Twiggy assures her that she shouldn't worry about that issue: "The camera sees deep; it really sees right into your soul."
After Jay introduces Davis and Dean Factor, founders of Smashbox Enterprises, he asks the girls to identify their own negatives, as well as those of the other girls. For each of the girls, Jay explains how to use their negative characteristics in a positive way. Jayla's ears are pinpointed as an issue, while for Bre, it's her teeth and forehead. Nicole is pale, Diane melts into a sullen girl in front of the camera and Nik has to be aware of her eye position. Lisa mentions Kim's love handles, while Lisa's cross-eyed look can be a problem from a distance. Kyle's neck seems a little short, while Coryn is too skinny and muscular.
The conflict between Lisa and Coryn comes to a head after the session with Jay; Coryn is annoyed because Lisa has directly criticized her more than once. "I do not like you," Coryn admits to Lisa's face. She feels better once she's revealed her feelings, and Lisa says they'll cut off all contact. Kyle is glad that Coryn has finally stood up to Lisa, and the other girls support Coryn's admission of truth. In confessional, Lisa admits she feels that the situation is messed up, but she can't do anything about it.
FAKE IT TILL YOU MAKE IT
Tyra Mail arrives with the message, "Accentuate the negative," and the girls are brought together to do just that. Miss J. introduces photographer Jay Goldman, who will work with the girls to both accentuate and hide their flaws in two separate pictures.
Once the photos are taken, J. reveals the prize for the winner: a visit to a luxurious spa with two of her friends. Kyle is declared the winner, and she chooses Kim and Coryn to go along with her. The girls enjoy their day, getting massaged and lotioned within an inch of their lives. They also enjoy a good gossip session, trashing Lisa and her critical ways.
Once back at the house, the girls find out they'll have to "fake it till they make it" the next morning at 6:30 am. They arrive at the studio the next morning, and Bre is immediately creeped out because the space is filled with surgical instruments. Jay explains that the shoot is going to be edgy, but it will also poke fun at their flaws. Jay needs someone special to take the photos--someone who really understands the extremes of plastic surgery--and he brings out none other than Janice Dickinson. The girls cheer and bow at her feet, thrilled to see the former ANTM judge as their photographer. "I'm not the bitch anymore, I'm the photographer. I have been modeling for thirty years, and I'll still be modeling for another thirty years. I'm the kind of person that just doesn't go away," Janice explains.
JANICE SPREADS THE LOVE
Though the surgeries are fake, the photos will be killer: Lisa will get the windblown face lift look, Bre will get cheek implants, Jayla will get a butt implant, Kyle will get lip implants, Nik will get hair extensions to the floor, Nicole will get a fake tan, Kim will get breast implants, Diane will get a breast reduction and Coryn will get some serious botox. Before the shoot, Janice takes some time to get to know the girls, and though she unnerves Kyle with her "in your face" attitude, Kyle eventually chills out. However, Lisa gets the brunt of Janice's bluntness when Janice states, "I'm detecting a little bit of attitude." Lisa denies it, but Coryn chimes in and says that Lisa criticizes the other girls. "You've gotta stop dissing everybody," Janice demands, and Lisa crumbles under the intense criticism. Devastated, she breaks down in tears. "I'm just totally offended right now."
Nik is up first, and she ends up naked with Lady Godiva hair covering all her important bits. Kim has a tough time because her expression never changes, while Kyle excels and Janice exclaims, "Best so far." Bre does her best to step it up, but Janice feels she doesn't connect to the camera. Janice begs for softness from Coryn, while Lisa's determination to put her emotions aside helps her pull it together. Nicole is grossed out by her fake tan, but she is exceptional; Janice later says, "You were so amazing…I was happy to shoot you." Jayla ends up with a sore back while sticking her rear out for her entire shoot, while Diane ends up in tears because her breasts are bound so tightly. In the end, she keeps her composure and gets through the shoot.
That night, Tyra Mail arrives to announce the coming elimination, and both Lisa and Coryn are equally concerned that they will be at risk. Bre feels the same; "You never know if your picture is really good enough. And you don't know what people are going to think… It starts to really, really eat at you."
THE LOWDOWN
Elimination time arrives. Tyra introduces the judges, including guest judges Dean and Davis Factor. The challenge: to act out a go-see with the judges in which the girls will tell them how they can turn their flaws into advantages. Each of the girls does their best, and evaluations begin soon after. Diane is first, and Twiggy zeroes in on the fact that Diane seems insecure when in front of the panel. However, her photo is beautiful, and Nigel encourages her to bring the confidence she shows in pictures to life. Kim is next, and the panel is not impressed by her hard sell of her flaw. Her photo doesn't go over well either; she's finally realizing how tough it is to take a good picture.
Though Lisa draws attention to her many other flaws in front of panel, Nigel loves her photo. Coryn hears that she needs to practice smiling, while her photo gets high marks from the guest judges and Twiggy. Kyle's photo is fierce, and Jayla's manner in front of the panel and her versatility in photos is extremely well received. Tyra feels that Nicole is simply relying on being pretty, while Nik's nearly naked photo is admired deeply by Nigel. Bre is next; she's having a hard time taking criticism in front of the panel. Tyra makes it clear that that fame is not all positive; being in the public eye means that some people are dedicated to tearing a celebs down. Twiggy loves her photo; Nigel says, "I want to see the model in this photo [standing] in front of me."
KYLE STANDS OUT
Deliberations begin with Nik; Twiggy loves her. Dean Factor loves Bre's face, but Nigel doesn't see her appeal in person. J. sees the weight of the world on Coryn's shoulders, while Nigel sees improvement in Diane. Nigel and Twiggy continue to disagree over Kim; he doesn't care for her picture, while Twiggy adores her attitude. Nigel has this to say about Lisa: "The fact that she was picked to have the face lift; doesn't that say something?" Twiggy thinks Nicole could get work easily in Europe, and there's something really cute about Jayla, although she doesn't quite pop. Kyle's photo is Twiggy's favorite of the week.
The girls return to hear the results, and first called is Kyle. Jayla, Nik, Lisa, Nicole, Kim and Coryn follow, leaving Bre and Diane to step forward. Tyra lets Bre know that the industry is a cutthroat one, and that Tyra herself has been called "every name in the book," while she pinpoints the fact that Diane isn't able to hide her insecurities as well as the other girls. With that, she hands Bre her photo, and Diane heads back to the house to pack her things.
In the end, Diane smiles beautifully through her pain. "It just hurts… It's all over. This is business, and this is teaching you how to get to the next level, so I guess I just have a little more to learn."
