LISA'S FIRE EXTINGUISHED
The girls pack their bags and head to London, England, where they're confronted by swarms of paparazzi as soon as they arrive. Tensions flare between Bre and Kim over Kim's gossiping habits, and the whole group has something to say about their disagreement. In the end, Jayla and Lisa are the final two, and Tyra sends Lisa home because she just doesn't look enough like a model to make the cut.
MEETING JENNY
While Nicole and Jayla continue to recover from their big scare during the last elimination ceremony, Lisa congratulates herself for making it far enough in the competition to get to their international destination, London. But their preparations to depart are interrupted by Tyra Mail, which announces that they'll soon be paid a visit by a model who has made it in the industry because of her individuality and self-awareness.
Later that afternoon, Jenny Shimizu arrives to meet the girls, and she explains that she ended up modeling after Calvin and Kelly Klein spotted her while she was on her motorcycle. She ended up on runways and magazine covers, perhaps because of her distinct look and personality: she's tattooed, a minority and a lesbian. When Jenny mentions the fact that she's a tomboy, Kim asks how she feels about putting on feminine clothing for the runway. Jenny's answer: she looks at fashion as art she can display. It gives Kim hope that she'll be able to conquer the same issues in her own modeling career.
PERCEPTION IS REALITY
A cryptic Tyra Mail arrives, reading, "Prepare to meet the ghost of your past…" Later, the girls arrive at a stage where they meet Kevin Frazier, an entertainment correspondent from Entertainment Tonight, who is there to explain some of the trappings of fame and the paparazzi. He reveals that over the past few weeks, photographers have been taking clandestine shots of all of them, most of them extremely unflattering. Also, as they travel abroad, they must be aware that they are representatives of both Tyra and ANTM. "Perception is reality," Kevin explains. They have to be ready for anything in the coming weeks.
Later, the subject of Kim's incessant gossiping comes up for some of the girls. Neither Bre nor Jayla are happy about Kim's bad habit, feeling that every time they leave the room, Kim will start to talk about them. Later, Nik finally hits her limit of Kim's antics; she can't take anymore disrespect.
After bags are packed and everyone's ready to head to London, the group is delayed once again for a quick photo shoot. They end up at a One Hour Photo shop for passport photos, which they all pose for quickly. Of course, it turns out the photographer isn't your average joe; he's celeb photographer Mark Anderson, who has over 200 magazine covers to his credit. He's judged how each girl did posing for her photo, and pronounces Bre the winner. Bre chooses Nik to share the prizes: they'll each get high-tech Sprint phones, as well as a surprise gift once they arrive in London. But the best thing of all is that recorded on to the phones are messages for all of the girls from a loved one. Bre is thrilled to hear from her mom, while Jayla is overjoyed to get a message from her boyfriend, whom she hasn't been able to reach lately.
TO GOSSIP OR NOT TO GOSSIP
In the limo on the way to the airport, Kim overhears Bre and Nik talking about her, and she goes over to confront them. It's on for Bre, who immediately lays it all out to Kim, saying how she has talked badly about everyone in the house. Jayla steps in to give it to Kim as well, because her feelings were hurt once she realized Kim had been talking about her. Nicole defends Kim, saying that all of them are guilty of gossiping, but Bre doesn't want to hear it. In the end, Kim apologizes, though she doesn't really feel as if she's caused harm to anyone. While Kim thinks the situation has been dealt with, Bre and Nik don't buy her act--they think Kim's tears are of the crocodile variety.
After the flight to London, the girls touch down at Heathrow to be greeted by Miss J. in a double-decker bus. On the way to their final destination, the Savoy Hotel, everyone takes in the amazing sights. Once they get off the bus, a swarm of paparazzi surrounds the group, and Lisa's reaction is to keep her head down and face shielded. Nicole stops to smile and pose, while Bre and Jayla simply walk through the crowd.
"Another score for us," Jayla says when she enters into the opulent hotel room they'll all share. Bre and Nik have barely enough time to settle in before the prize they won in the last challenge arrives in the guise of two English gentlemen. They whisk the girls away in a horse-drawn carriage through the streets of London to Piccadilly Circus. There, they enjoy a fancy dinner with the polite gents, and on the way home, Bre gets riled up at Kim yet again, while Nik feels that everyone has been very nice today.
SORRY DOESN'T CUT IT
Meanwhile, Kim writes a letter of apology to Nik to give to her when she returns, and she gets Nicole's approval beforehand. Unfortunately, Nik doesn't take the letter seriously. Neither does Bre.
The next day, the girls cab it to a location where they're greeted by Jay Manuel for their next challenge. The task: to pile as a group into a typical red British phone booth as though they're being chased by paparazzi. The object: to take center stage in their shot while surrounded by the other models. Nick Maroudias is the British photographer in charge of the shoot, and things get started with hair and makeup. Once the girls are in their ensembles (galoshes, panties and nothing else), Bre takes the stage first while the other girls crowd around her. Jay watches as Lisa takes her turn, and he thinks she's starting to become more like a model with every shoot. Nik finds it tough to concentrate during her shoot, and she later says, "It's was just very hard to feel pretty in that booth." When it's Kim's turn, Jay thinks she's really got it going on: "She's edgy… You won't forget her." Nicole feels the shoot is her toughest one yet, since she's got to fight for face time. The group becomes more irritable as the day progresses, so everyone is relieved when it's time for the last shoot: Jayla. Unfortunately for her, Jay and the photog notice that Lisa is having a little flirty fun with the camera as well, stealing some of the focus. She's really hoping for a good photo since she was in the bottom two the week prior.
NO NOSE-PICKING, PLEASE, WE'RE BRITISH
Soon it's time for the first London elimination round, and the girls meet the judges, including the guest judge Nick Maroudias. Tyra reveals that their panel challenge has already taken place: it will be the worst shot of each girl taken by the paparazzi at the Savoy. Kim is up first, and her shot looks suspiciously like what Nigel calls "the nose pick." However, her phone booth photo is killer; she looks beautiful and serene. Bre's paparazzi shot isn't so terrible, while Tyra was blown away by many of her photos in the telephone booth. Lisa is next, and her candid is terrible; Twiggy comments, "You don't look like a model." However, Twiggy loves her phone booth shot, and Nigel wants her to hang on to that look when she's in the public eye. Nicole's paparazzi shot is not very pretty, but her photo is both sassy and gorgeous. However, Tyra wants her to bring it a little bit more; J. says, "Whenever you think that you're doing it [right], just do it extra." Jayla is next, and to her surprise, she's the only one who didn't have a bad paparazzi shot. In fact, her photo almost looks like an editorial in a magazine. When her phone booth photo comes up, it isn't what Jayla hoped for, since the other girls dominate the shot. She needs to concentrate on developing a larger, stronger range of expression. Like Lisa's, Nik's paparazzi shot isn't very modelesque, though her side-glancing phone booth photo is striking. Tyra reminds her that she must learn to be as strong in a head-on shot. She's almost there, but she needs to build confidence. Nigel adds, "Only you can do that. You have to believe in yourself."
TOO MUCH THIS, NOT ENOUGH THAT
The time for deliberations arrives again, and Lisa is up first. Twiggy still thinks she's just too much personality and not enough model, while Nick enjoyed working with her during the photo shoot. Bre has turned around Twiggy's opinion with her last few images, and Tyra mentions that she won the passport photo challenge. That challenge came out of an actual experience Tyra had, in which she unexpectedly showed her own passport photo as an example of her work while on a plane with an important photographer. (She got the job, by the way.) Jayla hasn't shone for Nigel, and she didn't wow the photographer either. Both Miss J. and Twiggy are annoyed by Kim, but Twiggy still loves her look. Nicole is pretty and takes great pictures, but she's a sourpuss in front of the judges. Twiggy thinks Nik is stunning in her photo, but was very disappointed in her paparazzi shot, in which "she looked like a secretary."
Once the decision is made, the girls file in. First called is Kim, followed by Bre, Nicole and Nik. Jayla and Lisa step forward as the final two. Tyra sees Lisa as someone with fire, personality and spunk, and she takes gorgeous photos. However, some of the judges see her as too much of everything. Jayla is the polar opposite; she takes nice photos and has a nice personality, but nothing pops. Will it be the spitfire or the nice girl? In the end, Jayla gets another chance, while Lisa smiles sadly as she is eliminated. She hugs everyone before heading back to the hotel to pack her things.
Lisa is thoughtful as she prepares to leave the hotel. "If I didn't win or I didn't make the top three, oh well. I gave it everything I got. I stayed true to myself the whole way through. No regrets. This whole thing was pretty damn cool, man. To go through an experience like this where I actually get to live a dream--it's exciting. It's good. And if it's over, then it's over."
