Marty Again

So I look in my mail on Sunday morning and there is a message from Marty. Who's Marty? I told you about him about a month ago, http://groups.yahoo.com/group/tradingswats/message/606 . You not paying attention to what I tell you? Busy guy, hard to get together with his butt. So Sunday morning, there's a message from Marty, going to be off work on Monday, the big holiday, had thought he'd be busy but should have some free time, how about pounding some butt. Do grown men talk this way? So what's Bill going to say, let me look at my calendar. Hell, Marty, get your butt over here! Then got together my list of all the dumb butts I've whacked in the last year or so, and wrote a quick "Marty's coming over tomorrow to trade swats, join us if you can."Talk about last minute. Nobody else is all that eager about this. Did get one reply, too late.

But it was good to see Marty again. Busy guy. Get him when you can. But let me tell you what was really neat. Marty says he'll bring his bag of tricks. And when he came through door, carrying his sack, I thought it was Santa. Kind of looks like Santa some. He's a cheery guy, but not a hohoho guy. Anyway what's in the sack? Wow! This guy has made some major online purchases. He's a Hanson paddle junkie. Really beautiful work. All shapes and sizes and finishes. Mostly wood, one lexon, two beautiful straps with handles, a tawe (never know if I'm spelling that right or saying it right), and would you believe an assortment of ratton canes. His Christmas present to himself. Has this man got class. And the prize of all prizes, the paddle his dad had made to use on him. That man was the master of the drill press. Beautiful, thick, with rows and rows of holes.

So we lined them all up, let's count, 14 wonderfully hand-crafted tools, weapons, implements, whatever we call them. And let me tell you we put them to good use. Marty is a gentle man. And thinks if he's gentle with me, I'll be gentle back. And usually that's how it works. But I was all wide eyed and his butt was just there and I had all these wonderful toys. I just had to show off my best skills. Was probably a little mean to his butt. That was a grin on his face, but he was really gritting his teeth. But he knew I was enthused about the extravaganza. Sure we will hear his reaction.

Thank you, Marty, for the holiday. Maybe next time we'll get a group.
