Asheron's Call Sean Huxter Interview February 12, 2001
By: Mystery
Sean Huster, 3d Artist for Turbine Games, stopped over at Game Spy last week to give an interview for their Art of Gaming series of articles. Here's a sample of what he had to say:

It all begins with meetings with the content team, and the designers propose quests and feature changes, and we kick the ideas around. We all contribute, and we end up with an art task list that is needed for the month. I then look at it, estimate the time I can steal from the other artists, and if I can get some of their time we try to do more than if I have to do it all myself. Then I write up the task list and we get going. We sketch up concepts for new weapons, creatures, whatever. Then we run those by the design team, and work begins once they approve the sketches.

You can read the rest of the interview here.

Atriarch Determine the Orbit February 12, 2001
By: Mystery
In one of those "Community Building" moves, the devs over at World Fusion (team Atriarch) have created a new contest, and denoted the APDT Website official depository of contest entries.

The contest is to determine the orbits of Atriarch's 3 moons. Now, I know many of you are jumping at the chance of entering out of the sheer joy of using math, but let me warn you: we're dealing with UNreality here, folks.

I can understand the interesting game effects you might have when certain spectral things happen, but really folks: working out the physics to determine accurate orbits for 3 moons, and then incorporating that into the game is just a lot of CPU cycles for what will essentially be visual fluff for the average player.
