Sims Online Ask Will Wright February 13, 2001
By: Mystery
Wondering how your favorite Sims character will work in a Massively Multiplayer online flavor of the game? Wondering if that model of Diablo you used to frighten off your neighbors will be just as effective when the Sims really are your neighbors?

These questions, and more, will be answered by Will Wright in an upcoming interview with The Sim Page, a web site devoted to everything Sim. You can submit your question here, and then wait for the interview to take place.

Adellion Interview with Alrcari February 13, 2001
By: Mystery
Alrcari, manager of Cultural Evolution and World Changes (wow, now that's a title), stopped by Adellion Stratics the other day for an interview. Here's a sample of what went down:

Kvarno: How do you envision Adellion to change over the years? Would go as far as cultures ceasing to exist? Adopt the ways of other cultures be annihilated etc.
As a humble sage, I would venture to say that much of Adellion initially will go through many changes. We will have to wait and see what the changes are. I cannot predict the future as soothsaying is not my forte.

Kvarno: Might capitals change, cities be destroyed or change ownership and ethnic association?
Cultures who have had their main cities destroyed could opt to choose another city and "move" the capital to that location. Just because Adokon is Rahkzan's capital doesn't mean that Rahkzan can't "move" his government to a new location while attempting to route the invader. Cities will come and go over time. Leaders will rise and fall. Empires will grow and collapse. In some areas of the world, the politics of the world will mean nothing. This is the way of Adellion. Adellion will be what you make of it.

Check out the main page of AD Stratics ASAP before the interview gets buried.

Anarchy Online When in Doubt, Delay February 13, 2001
By: Mystery
After updating their FAQ, the folks over at Funcom let us in a little sadness:

Even if you are not picked out to participate in the current phase, you will still have a chance in the later. Release is scheduled for first half of 2001. Please note that this estimate could change. To make a game is a difficult process, and we all want to take the necessary time to make this a good game.

Yep, that leaves them open until June, with a caveat that they could push it back even further.

Sometime today (according to rumors, the change coincides with a server downtime announced from 11am to 1pm PST -- thanks AC Vault), Turbine will be replacing some 100 volunteer sentinels with 8 full-time paid employees. You can get the full scoop over at Gamespy Daily.

WWII Online R Hodge Interview February 13, 2001
By: Mystery
An excellent, and drool inducing interview with R Hodge took place over on WWII Online Stratics the other day. Here's a sample of what went down:

What will make WWII Online distinct and different from other Massive Mutliplayer games?

Sheesh... where do I start?

The carnage! On a grand scale! The game is PvP, kill or be killed, and you can do it in so many ways. :) As well the technology we are working on should allow everyone to play in one world, no shards, no zones required. The game will combine traditional sim genres, but the FPS aspect is really new. For FPS crowd they will be fighting in by far the largest MMP game world ever made, not a shoe box like most FPS games, with real visual ranges in miles instead of a few hundred feet, and real weapons with realistic ranges from a handgun to an 88mm AA/AT gun. That's our version of a BFG.

Come brothers, drool along with me.

Anarchy Online Beta File February 13, 2001
By: Mystery
Those lucky enough to have acquired one of the treasured AO Beta CDs, and who also happen to run a fansite devoted to AO...eventually come out with a Beta Diary. Here's a sample:

Finally free to explore the world, I was amazed by the beauty and complexity that the graphics engine allows. The weather effects were especially impressive. As a storm moved in, a red haze surrounded me and lightning arced from the clouds above to actually hit the ground in front of me. Chunks of turf were blasted free and lay for a short time on the ground surrounding the hit.

You can catch more of David's recounting of events here.

By: Mystyery
All props to Planet MMOG for tracking down and preserving mistaken releases of concept art for Humans and Wookies. If you take a look here, you'll notice that rather attractive feminine braid in the female wookie's beard. Damn, she's a hottie...
