WHAT IS A RITUAL?
How to make a ritual work!

A Ritual is the medium through which the art of magic is practiced. It consists of an action or series of actions, which may be entirely mental, or mental and physical, by which the power of magic is released and directed towards the fulfillment of a specific desire. A spell or ritual consists of a specific series of actions, worlds, and other events, which end the movement of energy. In magic, the two are interchangeable (though in religion, rituals are spiritual expressions of faith-not magical actions). There are many types of rituals. Rituals are used to connect to a deity. They are commonly used for such activities as asking for help or guidance from the God and/or
Goddess in addition to requesting recognition from a deity. Many practitioners use a combination of ritual and spell for most of their workings. An example of this would be a healing rite that includes
HERBS,  CANDLES,  OILS, INCENSE and GEMSTONES  to help bring about healing (a spell) in addition to a direct request for help from deity (a ritual).  We perform some rituals every day. Magical ritual is simply a different type of ritual, but it’s as real and as effective as any other types written on
VAMPYRESS' 3 SPELLS Pages, and produces just as specific effects.
Magical rituals are sometimes dramatic representations of our magical goal. Help or guidance rituals are used to seek assistance from deity. Rituals can also be quite subtle.
They have three purposes: to put us into the proper frame of mind, and to allow us to combine personal power with Earth, and, eventually, to send that power to do its task. Old spells aren’t necessarily more effective then new ones. Hands were the first magical tools. Long before the earliest spell books had been written, humans saw their hands as tools of power. With them they changed their world, and change is the essence of magic.
All properly designed spells (for you and by you) will work if they’re properly created and performed. Spells and rituals allow us to penetrate the illusion that the physical world is the ultimate reality; that our lives are predetermined; that we have no control over them. They give us control.
The reason most everyday rituals do not bring about desired effects is that they are not understood for what they truly are; therefore, they remain unfocused. When a ritual is unfocused, it can never accomplish a major purpose. The magnitude of a ritual is determined by the degree to which the power released is effective power. Once you become aware that you are working a ritual, and what the purpose of that ritual is, it becomes effective, and magical power is released and applied to the object of desire.
Whenever possible, one should write their own rituals for use
(GRIMOIRE), for many reasons. It infuses whatever you do with your own energy, and the words will feel more comfortable to you.
The greatest benefit of ritual may be, not its limitless power of transformation, but the way it allows those who practice it to perceive value in things they already possess, whether these are the forests and lakes around them, or the people in their lives. To see the world magically is to see it in color, where before everything was black and white.

Casting and Breaking a Simple Circle

If you have one, set your altar in the center of a clean area. If not, simply sit/kneel/stand on the floor in the center of a cleared area.

Light one white candle. Envision a circle of white light around you (and your altar).

Face North and say: Hail to the guardians of the North, mighty earth who feeds us, our home and mother, welcome to the circle.

Next, face East and say: Hail to the guardians of the East, blessed air who cools us, the breath of life in all, welcome to the circle.

Next, face the South and say: Hail to the guardians of the South, sacred flame that sparks life in all, our protection and father, welcome to the circle.

Finally, face the West and say: Hail to the guardians of the West, Waters of life, where all are cleansed and reborn, welcome to the circle.

Proceed with your ritual. At the end do the following:

Face the West and say: Hail to the guardians of the West, thank you for attending this circle. Go in peace and know you are always welcome here.

Face the South and say: Hail to the guardians of the South, thank you for attending this circle. Go in peace and know you are always welcome here.

Face the East and say: Hail to the guardians of the East, thank you for attending this circle. Go in peace and know you are always welcome here.

Face the North and say: Hail to the guardians of the North, thank you for attending this circle. Go in peace and know you are always welcome here.

The circle is now broken and your spell work complete. At this time, snuff your candles and do any parts of the spell that require you to leave the circle (burying an item, scattering the ashes etc.)

SIMPLE CANDLE DIVINATION (refer to my CANDLE Section)
Light a candle with a yes-or-no question in mind. If wax drips and accumulates on the right-hand side of the candle, the answer is yes. If wax collects on the left-hand side of the candle, the answer is no.

ROSE SPELL
According to Roman mythology, Venus fashioned the rose; therefore, the flower cannot be matched in beauty, delicacy, and fragrance. The red rose today represents love and passion, while the pink rose represents happiness in love. If you are searching for happy love, make a tea from pink rose petals and sip on it before you see your lover. When you see him or her, offer a kiss and you will both be happy in love together. Or, to generate more passion in a relationship, gather two red roses and carefully pluck the petals. Drop the petals into a warm bath, and light two red candles. Relax in the bath, and envision becoming irresistible to your lover. After draining the bath, gather the largest petals, dry them, and slip a few under your lover’s doormat.

ROSEMARY SPRIG DIVINATION (refer to my HERBAL Magick Page 550 Listed)
This technique is very simple. For this, you need a rosemary sprig. Simply ask a yes or no question, and pluck a sprig saying "yes", then pluck another saying "no" and continue until you get to the last sprig. If you pluck the last sprig on yes, the answer is yes. If you pluck the last sprig on no, then the answer is no. This can also work for love by rotating between "He/she loves me, he/she loves me not."

WILL THAT SPECIAL PERSON CONTACT ME?
Shuffle a deck of cards facedown. Ask your question as you remove seven cards from the pack. Turn them face up. If 4 or more cards are red, the answer is yes. If 4 or more cards are black, the answer is no.

DIVINATION PARTY RITUAL
Hold a divination party with your magic-minded friends today. Each person should bring at least one divinatory tool: a tarot deck, a set of runes, a pendulum, or whatever you tend to use. Make sure these are items you don’t mind sharing for a little while. The greater variety of tools people bring, the more magic will be generated. If you like, dress up as carnival fortunetellers. Seat everyone around a well-lit table, and lay out the different tools. Each person should describe the tool they brought—its history, how it works, the pros and cons of using it. Then, exchange the tools with each other, and try your hand at someone else’s kind of divination. Take turns reading each other’s fortunes. This is a great way to decide what you want to acquire for your own collection.

SPELL TO STOP ARGUMENTS
To stop a pointless argument, take a picture of the one you are fighting with and place a clear piece of tape over his or her mouth. Draw a heart upon it. Kiss it, and place it where you can see it as you clearly say: "You may best me with your words, But you are bested by my kiss. No more will I hear angry words; From these lips, love will persist!  Blow a kiss to it now and then as you walk by. Then place it in your dresser or another quiet place, and reinstate the spell when needed. This also works on yourself.

SAFE TRAVEL SPELL
Keep yourself and loved ones safe while you travel by casting a Safe-Travel Spell. To start, take a white feather, some white embroidery floss, and a silver charm shaped like a wheel. Use the floss to fasten the wheel charm to the quill end of the feather. Tie off the floss with a loop so that you can hang or wear the feather. As you work, say: “Hermes, wing-footed messenger of fair Olympus, see us safely to our destination.” Hang the feather in your vehicle, or wear it whenever you travel in an airplane or in someone else’s vehicle.

BALANCING AND GROUNDING RITUAL
Face East and center yourself. "I am grounded in the center of my being." Visualize energy of below. "I am supported by the powers of below." Visualize the God/Goddess of above. "I am guided by the powers of above." Visualize the unity of self with center above and below. "I am balanced in my being." Extend your hand to the East. Visualize and make contact with the powers of the elemental forces. Visualize clarity. "I am inspired by the powers of Air." Visualize purifying/transforming. "I am enlightened by the powers of Fire." Visualize healing/cleansing. "I am renewed by the powers of Water." Visualize nurturing/stability. "I am nurtured by the powers of Earth."
Establish the balance of the elements. "The forces are in balance within me and about me." Feel the Sphere of the Circle. "The Sphere is placed." Feel the Temple within yourself. "I am the Temple."

BURNING QUESTION SPELL
Choose a place where you will be undisturbed for at least one hour. Make sure that this is a place you feel safe in. If you can go to a park or wilderness area, do so. If not, simply turn the ringer off your phone and lock yourself in a room in your home for a while. Burn some myrrh incense and gaze into the smoke, holding your question in your mind. Chant your name along with the names of your spirit guides and power animals. Feel these energies fill the space around you as you chant. Ask for their blessings and protection, and imagine them looking deep into the dark shadows within you. See a light illuminate the areas that relate to your specific question, and explore as much as you feel comfortable. Thank your guides when you are done.

BEDROOM SPELL FOR RESTFUL SLEEP
To bring restful energies to your bedroom, begin with a good practical cleaning. Vacuum or sweep, dust all surfaces, make the bed up with clean linens. Open any windows, and allow all negative energy to be dispelled. Burn sage in the room, and ring a bell nine times. Light candles, and assemble a talisman using a quartz, moonstone, amethyst, and a small seashell wrapped up in a piece of white fabric. Sprinkle with dried rosemary, chamomile, anise, lavender, and elder-berries. Add a drop of real aloe gel and three drops of pure water, chanting:    "Power of the silver Moon, bless this room.  Bring restful sleep,  Safe and sound.  This promise I keep."

DIVINATION BY WATER
Write your questions on small pieces of paper that are equal in size. Roll the papers into tiny balls. Drop all of them at the same time into an empty bowl. Pour water into the bowl and look quickly. "Yes" is the answer to the first piece of paper that rises to the surface.

AN EMPATH'S EMERGENCY KIT
Developing skills in empathy can be a gift. While it is good that we can sense the emotions and issues of other people, we can also inadvertently absorb the emotions and issues of others. We may walk away from a conversation feeling angry and not know why. We may pass a stranger and then feel suddenly exhausted without apparent reason. One of the skills that you build as an empath is the ability to discern what issues belong to you and what issues you have absorbed from others. Once discerned, you will want to cleanse this other “issue” from your energy. Carry a black tourmaline. When you notice a sudden emotion or feeling that appears without reason, visualize it draining into the tourmaline. “Neutralize” this energy by storing your tourmaline in a container filled with rock or sea salt.

A SPELL TO REVEAL AN ENEMY
If you feel someone is working against you, this spell will help you find the source. In a dark- colored bowl, mix one cup water and one tablespoon of olive oil; stir with your finger. Set the bowl on a table and light a white candle. Darken the room and say: "Water, oil, and candlelight, Bring my enemy into sight. Let me see all I need to know To protect myself from this foe." Scry into the water mixture, and watch for any shape which might be a clue to you. Wise women of the Mediterranean can see the face of an enemy using this scrying method. When done, sprinkle the mixture around your home for protection.

THE WATER/CANDLE WAX DIVINATION (refer to my CANDLE Section)
This is my favorite divination technique. You need: a bowl of water and a candle of any color. Let the candle burn for a while before you start. When you see enough wax, then you can start. Carefully pour the wax into the water while asking a question. I usually like to ask what my future husbands occupation will be. Now watch as the wax forms into an object. It can be hard to figure out what it is sometimes. You may even want to be weird like me and keep some of the wax figures.

MARIGOLDS FOR BUSINESS SPELL
For success in business, grow some marigolds in your garden. Cut them and use them as cut flowers in your house. You can even make a hair rinse from the dried flowers. And if you are not sure how a business venture will turn out, place some marigolds under your pillow. This will evoke clairvoyant dreams that may bring you the answers you seek.

FIFTIETH BIRTHDAY SPELL (refer to my CANDLE Section)
Reaching your fiftieth birthday is a milestone. This spell considers the beginning and end of your life, from the perspective of you at the middle. To start, dress all in purple. On your altar, set three candles: white for your youth, purple for the present, and black for the future. Light the first candle, and spend a few minutes contemplating your early years. Then light the second candle, thinking about what you have achieved already and what you have yet to achieve. Finally, light the last candle, meditating on reaching your unmet goals. Thank your patron deities and ask them to help you complete your goals, then put out the candles.

POWER CHANT
"I take the power in my hands, From air and fire, water and land, Power of the angels and divinity, Moves and pulsates, the energy in me, I build, I birth, I bring form, I raise with might and energy storm. I shape, I build the ultimate power, From me blooms a perfect flower, Of strength, Of healing, I reign..."

BLOOD MOON RITUAL
On the eve of the third day before Blood Moon prepare by ceremoniously to celebrate the earth and sky. All participants should wear white or silver robes or gowns, as well as jewelry containing carnelian or moonstone with silver accents. The coven leader will clean a chalice with rose water and dry it. Pour a cup of red wine into the chalice. Slice a ripe pomegranate in half and squeeze the juice into the chalice. Add a teaspoon honey, and have each member of the circle stir the potion with a magic wand. Go outside. Form a circle holding hands. The leader lifts the chalice, gives humble praise to the approaching Blood Moon,
then takes a sip and passes the chalice clockwise around the circle. Each member also toasts the Blood Moon and drinks.
SPRING TONIC
Traditionally, tonics were made and ingested in the spring. Here are some suggestions for spring tonics that will revitalize the liver’s ability to cleanse the body of toxins. First, buy a glass candle with a picture of Yemaya on it. Light it on a Sunday. Brew a cup of vervain tea, sweeten with honey, and sip while sitting before the candle. Vervain is a liver cleanser and is sacred to Yemaya. Visualize toxins leaving the body, and Yemaya spiritually cleansing you with salt water. Cynara, an artichoke liqueur, is also liver cleansing. If you can’t find it, eating an artichoke is the next best thing, but hold the butter and mayo! Milk thistle, dandelion, and angostura bitters also cleanse the liver and the digestive system.

ATTRACTING FAIRIES SPELL (refer to my CANDLE Section)
Create a grotto to attract fairies by surrounding a decorative flagstone with herbal plants, white flowers, and a wind chime. Dedicate the grotto during a Full Moon by sprinkling with spring water, lighting lavender incense and a pale lavender candle, and offering a whole grain muffin and milk, saying: "I call upon thee, Fair Ones, with gifts of cake and wine, I offer blessings unto thee, and bid thee dance and dine. Come dwell at hand and share this land, That by thee my home shall blessed be", When the incense is burned out, extinguish the candle and leave. Tend the grotto regularly, leaving tokens and offerings of milk and raw grain or muffin. On special occasions, leave wine or whiskey instead of milk.

REKINDLING A LOST LOVE SPELL:
To rekindle a lost love, obtain a candle shaped like a human figure and a handful of dry beans (any kind will do). A regular candle will work also. Scratch the name of your lost love into the candle, and light it at night. Place the beans in a small heat-resistant bowl, and place the bowl over a fire on your stove. As the beans begin to jump around, state your desire for your lost love to jump up and reawaken to your love. Do this for three nights in a row. Visualizing the person contacting you in some way will increase the power of this spell.

CHANT TO FIND LOST ITEMS
"Bound and Binding, Binding bound, See the sight, Hear the Sound. What was lost, Now is found. Bound and Binding, Binding bound."

GOOD TIME'S CHARM
The next time you pop a bottle of champagne to celebrate a special event or accomplishment, don’t throw away the cork. Cut a slit in the top and insert a coin. If you place it in your kitchen cupboard, it will bring luck to the entire household. The luck will last until the next bottle of champagne is opened. However, if you insert a coin minted in the year of your birth, carry the charm with you at all times. The luck will last the rest of your life.

A CHANT TO RETURN A HEX
"Spell, spell, spell be gone. Back to which ye belong. Back to your caster. Take your disaster!"

SALT WATER PURIFICATION RITUAL
Fill the cup or if you have one, your ritual chalice, with water. Using your athame, stir in three mounds of salt and stir counterclockwise. While doing so, say:
"Salt and water, Inner and outer, Soul and body, Be cleansed!  Cast out all that is harmful!  Take in all that is good and healing! By the power of the Mother of all life,
And her lover the Horned God,  So must it be!"  Hold the chalice close to your heart and feed power into the water. When you can feel it glow, it is ready. If you are working with a group, pass it around and have everybody feed energy into the chalice.

CHILD'S PROTECTION BRACELET
A special kind of bracelet was used to protect children in ancient Egypt. It utilized the number seven, which the Egyptians considered to be a magic number. To make your own bracelet, string seven agate and seven gold-colored beads on a thin cord in an alternating pattern. While doing this, concentrate on your purpose and visualize the bracelet protecting your child. Knot each end to keep the beads in place. You may put knots between the beads if you wish. Leave enough cord on each end for tying the bracelet around the child’s wrist. If it’s too large, wrap it around the wrist more than once before tying.

INVOCATION TO THE GODDESS (refer to my GODDESS Section)
"Goddess of love and beauty, Protectress of all, Mother of women and men, Descend, I pray, With your lunar ray of power, Upon my circle here! I have called upon the Spirits of North, East, South, and West to aid me in the construction of this circle. This circle is sealed."

9 O'CLOCK AT NIGHT-NORTH SIDE OF THE GRAVEYARD
Go to the graveyard at nine o'clock at night, and get some dirt out of a grave on the north side of the cemetery. And carry it to a woman's house that has a husband, and you want that husband. You get some of your friends to take that dirt there. And if she can become friendly with the woman in that house and get a chance to sprinkle it around their bed and in the house, so she will have to walk over it, this woman, this mans wife will dwindle away and die. Then you have the opportunity to get with this man.

MIDNIGHT
If you have been having tough luck and haven't had much success, go to the graveyard at midnight and get some graveyard dirt and put it in little sacks or bags (tiny ones) and wear them around you waist. And from time to time you will be more successful that if you didn't do this.

MIDNIGHT - NO MOON SHINING
At twelve o'clock at night you get graveyard dirt. That's mostly for harming, that for nothing good. You go there at midnight but when the moon is not shining. You go there on a dark night. And you take the graveyard dirt. If you just want a person to have bad luck, you just throw the dirt at the person - strictly without anything else. They will never be successful in any undertaking that they do.

4 O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING
Go to the graveyard around four in the morning and buy a pennies worth of graveyard dirt. And come back and sprinkle it around the house, all around and sweep off they do step behind them. That will move them. Sweeping graveyard dirt is both an uncommon and dangerous rite. The woman here that wants to rid herself of an unwelcome roomer or friend, sprinkles graveyard dirt about the house outside, leaving herself a dirties entry. Coming indoors she closes the dirt less entry, the doorstep, with graveyard dirt. She is a prisoner in her own home. But, as soon as he walks over the dirt, entering or leaving, she sweeps it away. The spirit in graveyard dirt, not liking to be swept by the dirty broom, flees back to the graveyard; the man, having crossed the dirt, must go away forever; and the woman, now immune from the graveyard-dirt spirit, is free - for another roomer or friend.

GOOD PERSONS GRAVE
You go to the grave and you get dirt from a good persons grave, if you want peace in your home. And then you sprinkle it around and in the house, well then you go to work and then you find peace there when you return.

SINNERS GRAVE
Go to the graveyard and carry 3 pennies in your hand, and get dirt from the grave of a person who didn't have a religion. You dig a little hole and leave the 3 pennies and take some dirt with you. You can take the graveyard dust and sprinkle it around your home and this will break up you and your husband. It will cause confusion in your home but it has to be from a sinners grave.

Fire and Water Spell
Fire and water were sacred to the Druids, who venerated and respected the power of each. Fire ignited and intensified ritual workings, while water blessed, purified, and healed. Fire was connected with inspiration, and
water with wisdom. “Fire in water” referred to the illumination of poets,  and to the power of the Sun which was present in warm, healing springs. One of the most famous goddesses of a hot spring was Sulis, who presided over the ancient spring at modern Bath, England. Her name means “eye,” alluding to the Sun, the “eye of the sky.” Here is a prayer to the Sun or to the sun goddesses (for the Sun is feminine in Celtic tradition):     "Hail to you,
Sun of the seasons,
Glorious mother of the stars.
You lie down in the ocean without fear
And rise up on the wave crest
Like a queenly maiden in bloom.

The more loving energy you invest, the stronger the protection. Continue every day until the Full Moon. When the lunar tide turns, light a black candle, saying: “As the Moon wanes, so shall danger diminish. Keep this child from harm.” Visualize darkness fleeing from the ring of flaming light. Then bend and twist the switch tightly and say: “As I twist and turn this switch, your power is bound, but I’m free.” Place the twisted switch on the ground, then thank the tree. Leave and go directly home. It is done.

To BREAK A CURSE
On a night when the Moon is in a waning phase, take a blood root (a favorite Voodoo root used in breaking all evil spells and hexes) and throw it onto the doorstep of the person who has placed the curse upon you. So mote it be.” Charge your talisman with extra energy to meet particular challenges as they occur.

THRESHOLD SPELL
Whenever you are about to embark on a new enterprise, it is sensible to gain the blessing of a threshold deity. One such is Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god. Find a postcard or statue of Ganesha, or of an elephant if you cannot find the god himself. Make a small offering such as a bowl of rice, a flower, or a cake to the deity by placing it before his representative and saying: “Lord of the Threshold, Remover of Obstacles, God of New Enterprises, enhance my endeavors with your golden blessings.” If this does not bring you good luck, nothing will!

ASH TREE HEALING  WAND
The buds of the ash grow in a spiral formation symbolic of regeneration, healing, and rebirth. Therefore, an ash wand can be an important healing tool. To make a wand, search in spring until you find an “even ash,” or an ash tree with an even number of branches on each side. Cut a branch approximately twenty-four inches long, and say: “Sacred ash, healing tree, give this magic wand to me.” Then pass the branch through a candle flame, sprinkle with water, and touch it to the earth, saying: “Through fire, air, water, and earth, I consecrate this wand in the names of the Lord and Lady. Blessed be.” Use the wand to channel power in healing spells and rites.

TRADITIONAL OAK HEALING SPELL
For aches and pains take a handful of oak leaves and a piece of red carnelian and sew them into a muslin bag. Rub it over the affected parts of your body, then go at dawn to an oak tree and place the muslin bag into a hollow on the east side of the tree, saying: "Oaken tree, oaken tree, Take these pains from me. Stop the hole with oak bark and walk away without looking back.

IRISH CHARM FOR PROTECTION
Winter has weakened its icy grip, yet March winds howl like the Irish Bean Sidhe, the wailing woman of the hills. Known commonly as the banshee, this Celtic death spirit is thought to haunt the fairy hills and knolls, keening her death cry into the wind. Her flowing hair and robes create a formidable image. Hearing her wail portends a death. Make an Irish charm of protection tonight. Gather a green candle, a plate, a four-leaf clover (or its image), and four drops of rosemary oil. Melt the candle wax to make a coin-sized puddle on the plate. As it hardens, press in the clover, add the oil, and shape a charm. As you mold, infuse it with protection energy, saying "LOVE Conquers FEAR".

ECO-MAGICK (refer to my HERBAL Magick Page 550 Listed)
To help heal and bless Mother Earth, take some sage and burn it as an incense. Pass the smoke of the herb over your ritual area. Set stones at the four cardinal directional points and douse each stone with an offering of spring water and wine or juice, as you say: "Blood of the Mother from whom we are born, Blessed your face—with wine I adorn; Let all your children, both near and far, Remember your love and heal your scars. Consider giving time or money to an environmental organization whose aims and goals you trust.

THE LEGEND OF DOGWOOD WINTER
The rural people of Appalachia are keen observers of nature and weather. Over the years they’ve
accumulated a wealth of knowledge concerning seasonal weather lore. One of these legends concerns a natural phenomenon that occurs each spring known as “dogwood winter.” In April, the Appalachian landscape is starred white by the blossoms of the dogwood tree. But during this blooming, there is always a cold spell, which brings a dramatic drop in temperature and an occasional snow flurry. This became known to the old-timers as dogwood winter, and I’ve observed it too, occurring almost every year without fail. Farmers and gardeners expect it and curtail planting until warmer weather returns. See if you can learn more about the weather lore in your area. It’s not only fun, but it will help you understand the cycles of nature, and this can enhance your magic.

SPELL TO ALLEVIATE ANGUISH (refer to my TAROT Page)
If someone you know is overcome with anguish, take a good look at the Ten of Swords card from your favorite tarot deck. Now visualize the anguished person facedown on the ground, ten swords jutting from their back, as in the card. Imagine the Sun beginning to rise over the scene. Its light illuminates the swords and reveals the source of each of them. Use your energy to pull each sword from the body of the suffering person. As each is removed, send a ray of healing light to the wound. Do not move on until the damage has been cauterized by light and healed. Now direct healing energy at the figure. Make the figure get up and walk toward the sunrise.

RELEASING THE PSYCHIC VAMPIRE SPELL l
If you should find yourself needing to rid yourself of another’s harmful energy, there is a way you can do it with harm to none. Write down the actions that are hurting you. As you are writing, visualize all the pain you have felt from these actions streaming through the pen onto the paper. With each thing you write, say it aloud and then say: “The hurt from this leaves me now.” When you have finished speaking, burn the paper so no trace is left, only ashes. Take the ashes outside and bury them, preferably off your property. Now say, “I lay this hurt to rest now and forever. May the great Mother Goddess recycle the energy and put it to good use.”

FOR A PEACEFUL HOME
Gather freshly cut parsley and place it in a pan of water. Let it soak for nine minutes, and then sprinkle the water throughout the house while visualizing a calm environment. Peace will be restored.

Herbs of Mother Earth give blessings here to me, this rite, this sacred sphere.  Protect and cleanse this sacred place Hallow it now as my magickal space.  Walk around the space you're cleansing with the lit incense chanting this, hands up to the moon/sun/sky moving clockwise in a circle. Do this at least 3 times or until you feel all energy is positive.

BLESSING A NEW HOME, HOME CLEANSING
Home-cleansing methods are of great importance in African-American hoodoo folk-magic.  Here is a simple procedure for blessing a new home and ridding a house of any unwanted spiritual influences. Wash down the wood work and floors with Chinese Wash (or Van Van Oil in water) from back to front and out the front door and throw the remaining wash water out the front door or in the front yard.  If there is no front yard, carry some of the wash water to the nearest street intersection or crossroads and throw it to the East.  Then use a brand new broom to sweep the house from back to front and out the front door.  Some folks also like to sprinkle Van Van Powder at the front threshold and sweep that away from the house.  After cleaning as above, put down pinches of salt in the corners of each room or, if you are in a hurry, four pinches of salt at the four outside corners of the
house.

LAVENDER BATH
This spell will refresh and cleanse you. To begin, cast a circle in your bathroom.  Call the elements, and light a lavender colored candle.  Then blend in a muslin bag a teaspoon each of lavender flowers,  chamomile flowers,
and dried crushed rosemary. Hang the sachet under the faucet, and draw your bath water, allowing it to pour down through the herbs. Add a half cup of  lemon juice to the bath.  When you settle into the tub, lean back, relax, and take three deep breaths.   Close your eyes and focus on the excess tension and stress in your body.  Feel the herbs and lemon draw it out of your muscles and mind.  Thoroughly clean your tub when you are done to remove any residue of negative energy from the bath water.

TO HONOR YOUR HOUSEHOLD SPIRITS
When presenting your house spirits with offerings of incense, candles or what not you can say this little chant:  "Wraith of the house, Take heart and live, To every chamber This light I give, To every corner This breath I send
Approve and favor my willing hand."

HERBAL WITCHES CLEANSING BOTTLE
To make an herbal cleansing bottle, pour a layer of sand in a large clear bottle.  Add layers of dried herbs, one at a time: first rosemary; then lemon peel, sage, cedar, black peppercorns, lavender, dill, bay leaf, and rowan.
When the bottle is full, focus cleansing protective energy into the herbs and sand, and see a golden light radiating from the bottle.  Visualize the herbs driving away negative influences.  Cork and seal the bottle with white wax.
Using a permanent marker, draw the Algiz rune on one side of the bottle, and on the other side draw a pentagram. Set the bottle near your front or back door, and every six months, uncap,  Pour herbs out into the woods or your compost heap, and thoroughly wash and dry the bottle before filling it with a new round of herbs.

HOME PURIFICATION
Incense: 1 tablespoon pine needles 1 tablespoon juniper 1 tablespoon
cedar
Make sure all ingredients are completely dry. Grind ingredients together and burn on charcoal.  Spirits of the corners, Winds of the quarters, You who stand watching, And you who hear my voice, Guard well my home tonight

THE BROOM PURIFICATION
Before dawn, take a branch from any tree. Thank the tree for its gift and leave a coin or semi-precious stone at its base in payment.  Next, obtain several brightly colored flowers on long stalks. Tie these flowers to the branch to fashion a sort of broom, then sweep the floor in every room of the house, visualizing the flowers of the broom absorbing negativity and "evil" as you work.  Then, still before sunrise, leave the broom at the crossroads.
Traditionally this ritual is repeated at the first of each month.

BROOM HOME CLEANSING
With this broom, tool of my will, I do cleanse, purify and prepare this space.  From this circle now I banish all fear, malice and misfortune, that this circle may be a fit meeting place for gods and men. As I do will, so mote it be.

HOME BLESSING
Bread is offered to the household guardians as a libation, and the salt is kept in the heart of the home to ground any evil that might enter. After you do this, burn a purifying or protecting incense such as frankincense, cinnamon, or pepper moving it from room to room while you visualize any negativity fleeing from your home. As you go, chant over and over your words of power:  Smoke of air and fire and earth Cleanse and bless this home and hearth
Drive away all harm and fear Only good may dwell in here

SPELL FOR CLEANSING NEW WAND
Boil water in a copper cauldron and mix in sea salt. Stir 3 times deosil and say, "May the goddess enter the water/May the goddess make it pure."  then leave to cool in the garden in a sunny spot...say, "May Apollo's rays fill you with power"  Add a quartz crystal to the cauldron or pot. It should take an hour or so. Take your wand-to-be on a full moon and place it in the cauldron with the water.  Burn incense.  Do outside (preferably naked). Take the quartz and smash it into a powder.  Drop some into the flames. Say:  "May Apollo's light be released"  Throw rest into cauldron. Stir 3 times deosil with wand. Say:  "Wand of willow/Wand of life/You shall me follow/Through all strife! So mote it be!"   Allow the wand to dry on your window sill...the whole spell should have been done in a magic circle of sunflowers, gold/red gemstones and a crystals or rose quartz.  Now your Wand is blessed and ready to be used in place of an athame.  Before adding to cauldron, inscribe any symbols you want on you wand first.  And do it when it is the New Moon.

THE INFUSION PURIFICATION
Collect equal parts (about a handful each) of dried marjoram, bay and rosemary. Heat a gallon of water until it is almost boiling, remove it from the heat and toss the herbs into the water. Cover and allow to cool. Strain the herbs from the water and, using your fingers, sprinkle the infusion throughout the house. Move in a clockwise direction, visualizing and saying something like the following: I banish evil and negativity; This is my will, So Mote It Be! Touch the water to the doors and windows, appliances and furniture, outside around the home and on the surrounding property. Be sure to pour some down the drains as well. Visualize the water cleansing the whole area. It is done.

REMOVAL OF NEGATIVE ENERGIES
This is to help you rid yourself of other people's negative energies that might have rubbed off on you. Visualize a tiny hole in the small of your back. Move the negative energy down toward the hole and let it drain out into the Earth. Continue to do this until you feel it all drain out. Close the hole and embrace yourself. Visualize white light all through your body.

ROOM CANDLE CLEANSE
You need: White candle and holder Salt Place the candle in the middle of the room. Sprinkle the salt in a circle deosil around the candle. Light and say: Creature of wax Creature of fire Listen to me Hear my desire Cleanse this room By the power of three And blast away all negativity With harm to none So shall it be Leave to burn for at least 1 hour.

REMIND YOURSELF LOVE SPELL
Light a pink candle. Write in red ink on a small piece of parchment five things that you really like about  yourself.  Charge a handful of rose petals and a piece of rose quartz with your intention of self-love and acceptance, then place them, along with the parchment, into a small bag. Tie everything up, and place the bag some-where where you’ll see it often—a reminder of what’s good about you.

ALL PURPOSE PROTECTION SPELL
For a dose of all-purpose protection, mix sage and fenugreek (or fennel)  with a pinch of allspice, and cover with enough boiling water to fill a mug.  Stand over the pot and visualize it glowing first with bright green, then
with potent blue protective energy. When the potion is thoroughly imbued both with the herbs and your positive thoughts, pour. As you sip the aromatic brew, think of its protective energies seeping into your body, and
into your aura. Gradually, your personal emanation becomes brighter and denser. With each taste of your tea, visualize yourself increasingly surrounded by a psychic raincoat that is impermeable to negativity.

RELIEVING MENTAL STRAIN SPELL
Those vulnerable to mental strain due to massive workloads, emotional issues, and family demands will find this spell useful. It also helps take away the blues and other anxiety, and it dissipates mental lethargy. Ingredients required are one ounce each of rosemary, fennel seed, and cardamom pods, and a quarter pint of vodka and of spring water. Crush the herbs with a mortar and pestle, then put them into a sterilized glass jar. Pour the vodka and spring water into the jar. Seal it and let it stand in a cool, dry cupboard for at least two weeks, shaking the jar every two days or so. After a fortnight, strain the concoction into a clean bottle, then label and refrigerate. It should keep for quite awhile if kept cool. This mixture can also be used in
rituals for other health problems by mixing two teaspoonfuls of the liquid with water or orange juice and offering it to deities. If your ritual work is done outdoors on a sunny day, pour some on the ground in honor of the earth spirits.

FAMILY PROSPERITY SPELL
On this day which honors workers, do this spell so that members of your immediate and extended family will feel secure in their jobs, or will find a job if they need one. To start, light a green candle, and anoint it with Money, Prosperity, or Success oil. Write on a piece of paper with green ink the names of each family member who wants to work. Fold the paper into a small square, and anoint the paper. Sprinkle some green herbs-basil, parsley, thyme, and so on-around the candle. Place the petition and some of the herbs in a small, green-felt bag. Ask the universe for financial security, and carry the charm with you. After Labor Day, give the charm to the person in the family who most needs job security. As his or her financial lot improves, so will the rest of the family's.
