John MacDonald is the grandson of First Fleet arrival Owen Cavanough baptised 1762 in Gosport England arrived in Sydney Cove with Captain Phillip in 1788 as a sailor on the Sirius. He married Margaret Darnell, a 7 year prisoner who arrived in the same fleet on board the Prince of Wales, in 1791, and had Grace b 1795, Elizabeth b 1797, Owen b 1799, Richard b 1802, James b 1804, and George b 1807. and we are descended from their eldest child Grace Cavanough. Margaret Cavanough died on 24 September 1834 and was buried at the Sackville Methodist Cemetery in NSW. Owen Cavanough aged 79, accidentally drowned on 27 November 1841 at Wheeney Creek on the Hawkesbury.
