| 08.08.2006 Looks like Morocco was postponed to some undefined future. But Shane wasn't left without his doze of resort. He visited Brighton instead: The Bobby McGees: Wednesday, July 26, 2006 Shane McGowan...at our gig on Monday, along with Nick Cave, Everett True, my good friend M J Hibbett , lots of old friends from Leicester & the NME... Shane did piss off after the first song... I think the make up confused him... though it did mean that the bobby mcgees were out drinking long after Shane McGowan called it a night... my dad will be proud. Shame he left really, I wanted to discuss lyrics with him...it would have been like Byron & Shelly all over again. MJ Hibbetts & The Validators: ... However, just before they went on, WEIRDNESS commenced. We were sat watching people coming in, and said "Look at that tosser coming in, who does he think he is? Nick Cave?" ANd then realised it actually WAS Nick Cave! He strolled in, followed by SHANE MACGOWAN! The room ERUPTED with people trying to send text messages, shortly after which the weirdness got GREATER when they and their families (who had also come in) got up and started DANCING to the pre-band mix tape. STRANGENESS. At this point the pub owner (i think) came in and said hello to me. "I recognise you from the posters!" he said. THUS, for the time it took this conversation to occur, i was more famous than Nick Cave and Shane MacGowan PUT TOGETHER. After THE LEGEND! finished they all left, shortly after The Bobby McGees had become - thereby proving that WE can stay out drinking LONGER than Shane MacGowan - which was a shame for THEM, as they were GRATE. Accidental witness: We saw Shane McGowan. He is short and walks with a gammy leg. 07.08.2006 High life: Shane MacGowan @ Jerry Lee Lewis Live in Concert at the Rhythm Festival - 6 Aug, 2006 Danny Clifford: By now other celebes had arrived and were all looking forward to seeing Jerry Lee Lewis perform.. Peter Doherty and Kate Moss turned up, so did Shane McGowan and Victoria his girlfriend.. They all managed to get up on side of the stage and all danced along to Great Balls of Fire and Chantilly Lace etc etc.. The show ended with Jerry kicking away his piano stool. Then he walked slowly off stage.. The band still carried on playing. Jerry then made a swift, well, as swift as he could exit.. The crowd thought he was coming back on for an encore, but he did in fact get straight into his waiting car and sped off straight out of there... Peter, Kate, Shane Victoria and Gerry O'Boyle all came out off the stage and then saw that Jerry had gone, so they also made there way out of there. Before they did leave, I was chatting to Gerry O'Boyle and Shane. I saw that Shane had a great big blue flask with him. No doubt full of Gin.. We did a quick photo of him with it. I must say this was all quite surreal. 02.08.2006 MP3: Babyshambles (feat. Shane MacGowan) – Dirty Old Town (Live FIB 2006) From here: Festival Internacional de Benicassim – I. Photo Database MirrorPix Corbis FotoWeb Empics 25.07.2006 "Shane McGowen joined Babyshambles onstage at Bennicasim <21st July, 2006> in a rendition of Ewan MacColl's song Dirty Old Town. The toxic shock pair closed the Babyshambles set in sunny Bennicasim festival..." Ok, let witnesses speak: ...Cor blimey that Shane MacGowan, what a bleeding state he's in these days, eh? UNCUT bumps into the esteemed toper and professional Irish troubadour shortly after lunch, the man's pallor a ghostly white, flitting around Pete Doherty like the ghost of Hamlet's father, a grizzly warning from the future... ...dawn breaking drunkenly over Benicassim beach; Shane McGowan grabbing his first bit of sun since 1984 by the Hotel Orange pool; the sound of Morrissey's helicopter, at this very moment, coming in to land... ...Word had swept around the toothless drug tramp cognescenti of Benicassim that none other than Pope Of Penicilin Shane McGowan would be making a guest appearance onstage with perhaps the only band of the weekend that might make him look even slightly healthy, Babyshambles. And so, incoherently, it came to pass – after a hit and miss set of dodgy reggae and skat mumbling, on wobbled Shane, possibly as part of Pete’s Portuguese rehab schedule in a kind of ‘face your future’ exercise, to dribble his way magnificently through ‘Dirty Old Town’ and thus was an underwhelming Shambles set vibrantly revitalised... And a pic 24.07.2006 Shane & Victoria - Pirates Of the Caribbean 2 premiere - 4th July, 2006 - London, UK Shane MacGowan and Glen Matlock - 30th Anniversary of Their First Meeting - 6th July, 2006 - The Boogaloo, London, UK (RICHARD SANDLING is making a punk Documentary featuring Generation X, Vic Goddard, Shane MacGowan and Glen Matlock amongst others ?) Shane's smoking gun Sunday Independent 6 Aug 2006 SO you thought Pete Doherty and Shane MacGowan were joined at the hip? Sadly, Kate Moss's ex was nowhere to be seen the other week at the Boogaloo club in London when Sex Pistol Glen Matlock and Shane were reunited at Glen's secret gig. Shane welcomed the original bass player of the Sex Pistols - fired in 1977 because he allegedly "liked the Beatles" - to the show in Gerry O'Boyle's North London venue. The ex-Pogue reminded Matlock that it was 30 years ago that they first met up. The gig was by all accounts a stormer. The audience included members of London bands past and present, from Nick Lowe to Babyshambles (minus Pete) to the Buzzcocks. MacGowan could not persuade Matlock to sing the classic Anarchy in the UK because, he said, referring John Lydon, "that bloke in LA wrote the words and I wrote the music." So he asked Shane and the audience to sing the words instead which they did . . . THE BEAUTIFUL & DAMNED - SUMMER BARBECUE PARTY - 20th July, 2006 - The Boogaloo, London, UK: thedavidx: "... Then we went to Dickon's disco The Beautiful and the Damned. I couldn't find Dave Vanian, Rat Scabies or Captain Sensible anywhere, although Shane McGowan could be seen drooling over worried-looking ladies, so that's pretty close..." froupster: 'Much fun was had last night at Dickon's "The Beautiful and the Damned" disco at the Booglaoo. The selection of music was utterly supreme and completely refreshing with the backdrop of silent movies on a big screen. It was rather like being in another little world.<...> Shane MacGowan offered me a drink and cigarettes, kissed my cheeks and then took my hand and kissed that too, then he stood up and prompty fell down again. Rumi (who had absolutely no idea who he was) was utterly bemused, especially when he then did the same to her, but he was utterly charming and a perfect gent...' and a pic 05.07.2006 Dickon Edwards on Shane and Pirates premiere: Mr MacGowan Returns (certificate: Moderate Horror) "Photo taken by Mr O’Boyle’s phone. Time: 4.30am this morning. Place: a black cab, en route from the ‘Pirates Of the Caribbean 2? premiere party, heading across town to the Boogaloo. It is a difficult thing for a journalist to interview a psychic, because there is a natural desire to see them trip themselves up, or prove themselves beyond any reasonable doubt. Which is why, when I was asked to interview Gordon Smith, hailed as "Britain's most accurate medium" (according to his own blurb), I enlisted the help of my dear friend Shane MacGowan. Shane has been having regular conversations with dead people for as long as I have known him, and has often admitted to channelling words and music from other worldly beings. He has no fear of the dead, and because he also has deep emotional connection to dead friends and relations, I asked him if Gordon could do a reading for him, instead of for me. So here we are: Victoria on Musos Awards (KOKO Club, London, 23 Nov 2005) Glamour is great, unless you're sitting next to Bryan Ferry Victoria Mary Clarke Sunday Independent 27 Nov 2005 THE gates to Hell are guarded most vehemently, it is said. But any club that doesn't want to let us in automatically becomes alluring. This allure is made even more enticing by the presence of a velvet rope. I cannot say for certain, but I can hazard a guess that if one were to erect a velvet rope in the local shopping centre, one would have to employ bouncers to keep people out of it. MORE >>> Dinner with Pete D. and future Ginger man filming Hellraiser Pete cleans up his act Sunday Independent 23 Oct 2005 PETE DOHERTY Has always needed a lot of drama in his life (as well as crack, heroin, cocaine), but I never figured his drama as the kitchen-sink variety. But that is exactly what it has become in the post-Kate Moss period. Last Tuesday night, after a dinner in writer Victoria Mary Clarke's house in London, Pete actually asked to do the dishes. This would be a little like Eamon Dunphy appearing at your door and offering to hoover the house.
