I received my first four goblets when my sister-in-law broke up housekeeping, and after that I found a piece here, a plate there, and before my poor husband knew it, I was hooked. I've tried researching King's Crown in our local library, but had little luck. We just purchased our computer, and while muddling my way thru the various features, found your wonderful site. I have four plates, three sizes of goblets, and two compotes (the antique dealer called them that) though they seem to have an area in the center for candles. My most recent purchase was a covered candy dish with the ruby bands. I enjoy reading all your information...keep up the good work.

I just found your webpage and haven't had time to go thru the whole thing. I have about 200 of the more common pieces in 18 colours. I have noticed the small differences in the patterns and am interested in learning more about the different manufacturers. My public library doesn't have much on it. I will peruse your sight and then get back to you with questions if this is ok. Sincerely a fellow kings crown collector

I was very excited to find your site. I love Kings Crown. I too started by collection from an aunt passed away. I don't have a very large collection. I have 11 of the footed ice tea glasses (of which I want more). I also have the footed water glasses and sherberts. All of the glasses are the double flashed (as I have seen termed on ebay). I am really not sure what color they are. I have seen darker red than these but I bought 12 cranberry wine glasses which are a lighter color. I think that the glasses I got from my aunt were probably purchased in the early 40's. I also have purchased the small salad plates. I am looking for the dinner plates but have been overwhelmed at the price that they sold for on ebay. I also saw them once in an antique store but they wanted $80 ea. I can't pay that much even though I desperately want them. Sorry for being so wordy. I really love the kings crown and it was exciting to find someone else that also was devoted to the pattern. Thanks, Gwen P.S. This may show that it came from another e-mail address than the one listed above as I am sending this from work rather than home.

Hi, I had seen Kings Crown for some time, but because the the high prices of the stuff I saw, never got close enough to find out more about it. :) I'm hooked now, though. I want it all. Does anyone know of websites that deal in Kings Crown (other than eBay) where you can view the pieces? Also, any book recommendations that show the many pieces available would be helpful. Thanks for this website. I learned alot here. :) Jim

I'm looking for info on the pieces with the jagged tops. I learned that one piece I have may be a mayo. I also have a great big bowl that looks just like it - probably 10"+ I'd like to know if the jagged tops are older and who might have been the manufacturer. Also - I'm interested in dark blue flashing. Is this considered rare and expensive?? Thanks for the info. Please e-mail me back.

King's Crown Fanatic: A lot of the jagged edge pieces are from the original production of King's Crown. Any of the blue stained items are considered rare and go for a pretty penny on ebay.

I have come across a punch bowl set in cranberry but it does not have the "rick-rack" design above the "thumb prints". The prints are elongated and there are 12 footed cups. Is this King's Crown or just an imitation?

I "inherited" a complete luncheon service (in avocado) for 12 from my aunt. Cups, plates, sugar, creamer and tray. She's had it "forever" and never used it anymore. I collect depression glass (and *love* luncheon sets) so she decided to give it to me. She packed it all up nicely but didn't realize she cracked the creamer! So, now I'm on a hunt for an avocado creamer! Love your site! I will continue to check back to see your progress. I recently found a Kings Crown bowl for $35 but decided against buying it. It was not ruby flashed and had a silver bottom to it. I will see the dealer again in Sept. Let me know if I should grab it!

King's Crown Fanatic: Dee has since picked up the above mentioned bowl. It is the 11 1/2 inch Crimped Bowl that is clear, but has a silver metal foot attached to it. Click here for picture of the bowl.

Hello - I too fell out - I was in a hotel in Atlanta - EBAY had a booth at the BARBIE DOLL Show WE got a T-Shirt - just for stopping by - I had put an early bid in for the Banana Stand - so I was curious Question- i really love the dark Ruby - I have the creamer, toothpick holder and a very large compote Do you think that I can find 10- inch dinner plates in the very dark ruby? or should i just use the ruby?

King's Crown Fanatic: My King's Crown sources say there are no very dark ruby dinner plates in the traditional sense. There are some square very dark ruby 8 inch dessert plates.

I just started to collect King's Crown. I found a small (4in.) compote at a collector's fair for $5.00. My best purchase was a large compote. Both are either ruby or cranberry. I just bought 4 sherbets, and am looking at some goblets. The sherbets are Maiden's Blush.
I notice that the King's Crown items seem to be constructed in three pieces. However, I saw some goblets today that are constructed in two pieces. Does this mean anything? Ann

King's Crown Fanatic: In regards to the mold marks on King's Crown, depending on the maker the mold marks will either be 2, 3, and some have seen 4.

Favorite King's Crown Color: Blue Stain

Comments:I have viewed your web page from cover to cover and enjoyed every minute of it. You have done a great "informative" job. I have recently became interested in collecting Kings Crown glassware in the ruby color. After seeing a blue stained piece it looked more elegant and would work into our decor much better. I just recently found six blue stained clarets in Missouri priced at $9.50 each. After haggling with the dealer for 5 minutes I finally bought all six for $35.00. Since I'm new at collecting KC, are these pieces and color hard to find? Are they in the inexpensive or expensive line? How many different pieces were there produced in the blue stain. I am interested in any comments you have concerning this particular color and knowing if there is anyone out there with any for sale. I'll be watching my Email for your reply. Thanks again. Keep up the great web page.

King's Crown Fanatic:After consulting with Jesse, a fellow King's Crown Collector and the book "Identifying Pattern Glass Reproductions" here is the list of blue stained items I have come up with ashtray (square, flat, 5 1/4"), Center edge bowl 12 1/2"d, Cone Bowl, Crimped rim bowl 11 1/2"d, Compote open smooth rim 7 1/4"h, 9 3/4"d, 3 and 4 piece mayonnaise set, 7 3/8"plate, 4" round bowl and ladle, large goblets, medium goblets, wines, cordial, dinner plates, salad plates, cups and saucers, cake plates, snack plates, finger bowl, and creamer and sugar. If anyone has anything else in their posession to add to this list please let me know.

Hi Lynne, Bought something from you long time ago and thought you had disappeared. Just sold KC Cake Plate to a lady near Milwaukee and she stated that you had a page. She ended up buying 5 KC Dinner plates, a fruit compote and a tankard pitcher from me and she will visit us next month [she used to live in the same town I do] to buy some more plates. Had a nice visit with her and thought I would add to your guest book. Nice idea ! I currently have around 600 pieces distributed in two antiques malls in Illinois [I am in Wisconsin] and inventoried in my storage area. I do advertise periodically on ebay but place normal reserve as to what I sell them for in the malls.

King's Crown Fanatic:Hello nice to hear from you. I see you frequently on ebay, but you must have me confused with someone else. I don't sell King's Crown just collect it. Sounds like you have a very nice selection of King's Crown. Good luck and I'll see you on ebay.:)

I bought a small creamer at a garage sale last week, hoping it was King's Crown. Maybe you can help. I paid $2, so I'm not that concerned. Here's my best attempt at describing it (wish I had a digital camera). 3¼" from base to top of lip, 2¼" diameter of top, 2" diameter on base, 10 pointed star on base, 9 ½" diam thumbprints inside of zigzags on top and bottom, top half is fired-on ruby color, rim goes like this /\/\/\/\ (exactly that many times) on either side of handle. Any idea what this is? The lookalike pattern you call Sawtooth was made by the Indiana Glass company in the 70s and 80s. Some pieces may still be in production today. I don't know if the name Sawtooth is accurate or not. I saw a boxed set of the same pattern (but without red trim) labeled Indiana Diamond Point, although glass companies have been known to give different colors different names. I've seen that pattern in crystal, red flashed, yellow, amber, avocado green and milk glass, and other dealers have labeled it Indiana Diamond Point. At any rate, I find it troubling that people could mistake diamonds for thumbprints and zigzags! Matt Freier

King's Crown Fanatic:The creamer you are interested in is called a miniature creamer, tall shape, 3 1/4 inches high. The book "Popular American Ruby-Stained Pattern Glass" by Richard Carter Barret copyrighted in 1968 does not give an indication as to the age of the piece. A creamer usually goes for around $30 to $40 dollars in my experience as collector. Haven't tried to sell anything. Who made it I couldn't tell you. I was reading the Reproduction book just last night (see reference page on web sight) and it is so confusing. And I find authors contradict each other.

The pieces I have that I suspect of being of the 1890's variety have round thumbprints, 3 mold marks, 10 point star on the bottom and the ruby is a very deep don't want to be gross here but blood red. This is just my experience. I'm not an expert..... . ;)

Did some reading on Diamond Point and Sawtooth last night. They are 2 different patterns although the diamond point write up said it is sometimes referred to as Sawtooth. Diamond point has small 4 sided diamond shapes on it. Sawtooth has larger sharper points. The example of goblets showed Diamond Point having about 22 rows of "diamonds", where as the Sawtooth goblet had about 8. Also there is a difference on the stem. Both have a decorative diamond balls...Diamond Point's is towards the bottom of the stem and Sawtooth's is toward the top. I didn't read anything about Diamond Point coming in any stained colors though, so I don't know about that. Anyhow thanks for pointing it out I've learned something.

And yes I saw some Sawtooth for sale at Walmart the past few years around Christmas.
