Introduction                                       Contents of ESL
Elena Tang is one of excellent writers in our writing class. She is a teacher who teaches Chinese in a church every Sunday. She is also a  good grandmother and a caring woman. These are some of her stories sharing with you.
                 My First Love                              1   2
Many years ago my mother had a big fat cat. One year the cat gave birth to five babies. One of them had white fur and blue eyes. I liked her and kept her. The others and their mother were sent away.
I called my kitten “Mimi.” I prepared her a bed. The bed was soft and warm. Mimi often rolled and rolled on it.
Probable Mimi knew that time I came back from school, because she was waiting for me at my bedroom door. When she saw me, she ran to me and shouted. “Miaow, miaow…”until I held her in my arms.
While I was doing my homework, I put her on my legs. She was quiet. She understood that I wanted her to do. Then I went to the yard with her to play ball. At that time she was very excited.
Every day I prepared her some food and gave her a bath, so her fur was very clean and long, but she was growing up slowly so she always looked like a little kitty. She was cure.
One day when I came home, I did not see her. I was scared, looking around for her. Eventually, I heard her outside. I ran to the yard and saw her on the top of my house. It was so unbelievable! How did she get up there? I guessed that maybe she climbed up a tree, and then jumped so the top, but she could not be sown herself.
I did not have any good ideas to help her, and nobody else came to help her either, I was crying. I did not wan to eat anything, only look at her and hear her shout. That night I could not sleep. Suddenly I did not hear her sounds. I went to the yard to see her and call her, but she had disappeared.
I did not know where she was. Perhaps somebody took her; perhaps she went away or was dead. I never saw her again.
I was very sad over losing Mimi. She was a part of my life; I could not forget her. She was on my mind. I blamed myself and believed I should have paid more s Attention to her. So I have not gotten another cat or another pet ever again. I do not want to undergo losing one again.
Mimi Was my first love and my last pet.
                                                 My First Granddaughter                                  1   2
I was very happy when my granddaughter was born. I wanted to hug her closely and kiss her at once. However, I saw her the first time when she was one an a half years old. She could speak and run around. She was friendly to men, however; she did not look at me as a stranger. She played with me and let me read stories every night. When I called her “Sweetheart”, she came to me immediately. She was very cute and gave me great pleasure. I love her very much.
When she was three, she began to go to kindergarten. In her class, the teacher told them, “I ask you questions. If you know the answer, please raise your right hand.” My granddaughter liked to raise her hand, but she did not know the answer. So the teacher asked her, “Why did you raise your hand, even if u didn’t know?” She said, “Somebody raised their hand, so I raised my hand too.”
Her cousin often got red stars (that means good), but she did not get them. She cried and cried. Finally, her grandmother (her mother’s mother) made some red stars to giver her. She was really happy.
One year later, she to a children’s English class of the International Language School. The class was interesting. She liked it. She still liked to raise her hand, but she actually knew the answers. I asked her, “Do you want red stars?” she says, “No, I like my teacher to give A+.”
Now she studies very well and she calls me "Sweetheart" too.
My granddaughter is growing up fast. Time is flying also, as quickly as a rocket!
A New Job:  My Special Class                                 1    2
I go to church every Sunday. The church is near my house. One day the priest told me he wanted me to teach Mandarin. I thought that is not difficult for me, and the students are all children (six or eight years old), and I like children. So I agreed to do it. But I did not know they cannot speak Mandarin. They only speak English. They are real Americans, even though their eyes are brown and hair is black. After I teach tem Mandarin, I need to explain to them in English about reading, writing, and speaking in Mandarin. Maybe it is a special class. I never thought of doing this, even thought I do like this work.
