Even though the sun was shining, the weather was cold when l was struggling in my cocoon that l spun after l hatched from the egg. I met the world the first time. Oh my god, It was such a big land. |

It was difficult time for me. I thought to myself that l was poor caterpillar .How would l survive outside my cocoon and become a beautiful, colorful butterfly living in freedom? I imagined my future to give me more courage to me while l was struggling. There were some caterpillars like me on the ground. Some would live, some would die. This was life. The strong would live. Who would be lucky? |

One caterpillar was struggling in order to live. I cut the cocoon off for her. I helped her best l could. She did not seem strong; l thought maybe she hadn’t eaten her egg sac when she hatched. The new butterfly set out and fluttered a bit and struggled more, but she couldn’t fly. Then she died, falling to the ground. I was shocked when l saw that she was dying. I was in such bad shape. Suddenly l saw a caterpillar who was struggling to cut the cocoon off. I started to pay careful attention holding my breath. He struggled his way out, waited a moment, then he fluttered and flew away to live his life. |

I said to myself “good luck.” He gave me courage and I felt strong. I inhaled very deep and finding my way out. I cut off my cocoon very carefully. The first step was wonderful. I saw my color. It was blue and there was a black line on the edge of the wings. My antennas were also black. I was proud of my beauty. I fluttered with my gorgeous wings a bit, then more strongly, and flew away. |

I started to fly in the sky. I was a day butterfly not night butterfly. Now was the time to go to freedom and to flowers that were colorful like me, to pick up my food. I was starving; I had to find nice flowers. Oh yes, I saw wildflowers on the mountain. I looked around in order to protect myself from the people who want to collect butterflies. I am a beautiful, valuable blue butterfly, expensive because of my color. Did you know that there is an exchange to buy and sell butterflies? People buy and sell butterflies for much money, like precious stones. Pollution, destruction of the habitat, and butterflies collectors have made butterflies next to extinction. I am concerned a lot about this situation. Would our species become extinct? |

But for the moment l felt safe and l chose one gorgeous chamomile, which l began to eat. It was blowing while l was eating, so the chamomile was waving from right to left. I was holding the petals very tightly. After my lunch l fell asleep. It was the first time l was flying. After getting a nice nap, l felt very energetic. I was very curious to see new places. I saw a little village on the edge of mountain. When l came close to the village, l saw a nice garden full of flowers. Woodbines were in blossom, smelling stronger than the other flowers. I saw some butterflies with different colors who were males. What a gorgeous and enjoyable garden. They admired to my color. I was the only blue butterfly in the fragrant garden. Life is wonderful when we live in peace like my blue color. |

It is a very different story that butterflies or any living things are born who must struggle... Please listen to me carefully. Nothing is easy; nothing can be done without trying. Our life is as difficult as the butterfly’s. Life is a struggle; however, we must persist like the butterflies in overcoming life’s struggles. Even people need to be free to fly away. |
