A bouquet of white lilies For our dear teacher Fiona. Her soul and spirit, As pure as the white lily. Dedicated herself to teaching, So devotedly, willingly, and happily. A bouquet of white lilies For our dear teacher Fiona. As a teacher, as a counselor, As a friend, as a sister, Intelligent and humorous, Kind and helpful always. |
A bouquet of white lilies For our dear teacher Fiona. Facing fatal illness, She was the bravest fighter, Comforting other people, Encouraging them to be stronger. A bouquet of white lilies For our dear teacher Fiona. Now you left us, Your graceful image, Your noble character, Like a never-withered white lily, Blooming in our hearts, forever, forever. |

My Chinese mane is Leung Lup Suet. “Leung” is my family mane (last mane). In Chinese, the “Lup” means “stand” and the “Suet” means “snow.” What does that mean? Standing in the snow? Ah, my father picked this mane up from an historic story: “Chin (Chin YU) Mun (door) Lup Suet.”
Chin was Chin Yu, who was one of the famous scholars in the ancient dynasty. His profound knowledge and serious teaching style gained public favor. His students admired and deeply respected him. One winter afternoon, it was windy and snowing. Three students came to Chin Yu’s house to attend the class, but Chin Yu was taking a nap. To avoid disturbing him, the students stood outside his door in the snow. When Chin Yu awoke, their shoes were covered by snow, but they still stood firmly and never moved until their teacher let them go into the house
Therefore, this story was a good model for teaching younger generations to respect their teachers. My father believed wisdom is better than wealth. He wanted me to respect my teachers and study as hard as the students respected their teacher is unreasonable, but I admire their spirit and put it into action.
The pronunciation of “Lup Suet” is very difficult for foreigners, so I added “Lisa” before “Lup Suet” when I wan naturalized. Now my mane is Lisa Lup Suet Lee. It is a bit of a pity that I can’t keep my family name “Leung.” |
