| Amelia and Naga- Sisters?? |
| The popular debate continues! For those of you who don't know (I don't have information on her on this site), Naga, also known as the White Serpent, was Lina's companion/rival in Slayers Special, before Lina met Gourry. Well, I believe that Naga and Amelia are actually sisters, although many people doubt it. It's time to change their minds! To start off, a popular reason why this sister relationship isn't possible is that Amelia and Naga are nothing alike. Their personalities are different, Naga's tall while Amelia's short, and Amelia's clothes are modest, while Naga's skimpy outfit barely qualifies. My answer to this is: So? Since when are siblings alike? Although a younger one might look up to an older sibling, that doesn't mean they have to be exactly alike! Therefore, this argument goes down the drain... Now to start off with points from the series. In the episode of Slayers where Lina, Gourry, and Amelia were forced to go on a ship to escape Zangulus and Vrumugun's pursuit (and when Gourry had to dress up as a girl for the first time), there was an unusual moment. Although seen from the back and not very clearly, Naga might have been featured in that episode. With the same long hair, accessories, and "clothes", it's no wonder that Amelia had paused thoughtfully when she caught a glimpse of the woman. In the marriage episode of Slayers Try, as they were crossing the bridge, Gourry suddenly commented that Amelia had been getting taller. Amelia replied that her big sister was almost as tall as Gourry. Gourry responded that that sounded scary, and Amelia nodded and said, "She is". Naga again! Finally, in another episode of Slayers Try when Lina was laughing like Naga (OH-HO-HO-HO!), Amelia asked Lina to please stop. It sounded like Amelia had heard that laugh all too much in her childhood... To wrap up, some more historical background. There was a story told in the manga that described Amelia's mother's death by an assassin wielding a sword. Afterward, Amelia's sister, Gracia, had supposedly run away after witnessing the horrible act, and Prince Phil had made no effort to stop her out of his sorrow. It's quite possible that Gracia took up the name of Naga, the White Serpent, after she fled. This explains not only why Amelia and Naga hardly ever handled a weapon, but also why Naga is so scared of the mere sight of blood (shown by an OVA episode). Well, I hope that convinced most people that Amelia and Naga ARE in fact sisters. For those of you that still aren't convinced, may Naga's laugh haunt you forever: OH-HO-HO-HO!! ^_^ |
