Introduction |
For you poor people out there that didn't have the chance to watch it, Slayers is quite possibly the greatest humor/adventure anime series (or rather the greatest anime series period) out there. It revolves mainly around the exploits of the renowned sorcery genius Lina Inverse, but the group grows quite a bit larger by the end of the three Slayers series. The first Slayers series mainly involves Lina, Gourry, Amelia, and Zelgadis, who get caught up in a deadly plot with a dark lord, a demon beast, and the mysterious Red Priest Rezo. The second series, Slayers Next, focuses on going after the Claire Bible, an item said to possess infinite knowledge. Xellos is introduced in this series, and the secrets he manages to keep eventually leads to the climax at the end of the series. The third series, Slayers Try, introduces the Dragon Priestess, Filia, and her prophecy of destruction. Their toughest opponents yet are faced against the Slayers in this dramatic and funny series. There are also rumors of a fourth Slayers series being worked on in Japan with names such as "Slayers Again", but this is, unfortunately, probably not true. Actually, Slayers is divided into two main sections, Slayers and Slayers Special. Slayers includes the series Slayers, Slayers Next, and Slayers Try, while Slayers Special tells of the events before the first Slayers series, back when Lina Inverse was travelling with her rival, Naga. Slayers was originally a series of short stories which later became novels, all written by Hajime Kanzaka and illustrated by Rui Araizumi. Featured monthly in the monthly Dragon Magazine, the ongoing Slayers story is put into full-length novels. There is currently an impressive collection of 14 Slayers Special novels, 14 Slayers novels, and 4 Slayers Delicious mini-novels, which are also based on the Slayers Special storyline. That's not nearly all, however. Not to go into detail, there are also 4 Slayers movies, two 3-part OVA (Original Video Anime) series, 6 MAGIUS Slayers RPG books, a Slayers manga collection of short comics, an ongoing manga series spanning 6 volumes, 2 radio drama series, LDs, DVDs, soundtrack, vocals, a six-part CD-ROM release (Slayers Digital Collection), and video game RPGs for the Super Famicom, PC98, Sega Saturn, and Playstation. There are still a bunch of other collectables such as art books and anime comics, and I believe that the voice actors playing Lina, Gourry, Amelia, Zelgadis, and Xellos (in Japan) are actually their own band in real life. So all that's to start you off. You want to know more? Then look around! ^_^ |
