Introduction to Slayers Magic |
Black Magic- Spells that call upon the power of Ruby Eye Shabranigdo and other mozaku serving him. These spells are dangerous, destructive, and chaotic, and are generally considered "evil" by many people. The most powerful of these spells is the Dragon Slave, which Lina has perfected to the point that sometimes she can cast it without an incantation. To use these spells, you must understand the use of special words and gestures to make the spell have its maximum effect. The more powerful the mozaku that the spell calls power from, the more powerful the spell, and the more difficult it is to control it. Additionally, if the mozaku being called upon is hurt or damaged, the spell becomes weaker; if the mozaku is dead, the spell can't be cast. Black Magic generally has no effect on mozaku unless you call power from a stronger mozaku. |
White Magic- Spells that call upon the power of holiness and the gods. These spells can heal, defend, and even occassionally be used offensively. Priests, priestesses, and shrine maidens can use stronger white magic than other people. White Magic is essential in battle; life and death could depend on this branch of magic, since black magic and shamanism have almost no ability to heal. |
Shamanism- Also known as "spirit magic", shamanism calls upon the power of the elements: fire, water, air/wind, and earth. As you can see from the destription, spirit shamanism is unique. Fire Shamanism- Calls upon fire's chaotic nature. Can be used against one or many targets, and can be very destructive indeed. Water Shamanism- Calls upon water's force and perseverance. Especially useful against enemies under or on water, and also includes spells using ice. Air/Wind Shamanism- Calls upon wind's energy and air's stability. Useful in many ways, such as flying, blowing away enemies, encasing oneself in an air bubble in places where they're normally unable to breathe, and creating barriers of air. Earth Shamanism- Calls upon the spirits of the earth and their power. Can impale enemies with pieces of earth, encase them in stone, and blast a huge piece of earth and everything on it into the air, for starters. Spirit Shamanism- Calls upon the materials of the astral plane. After the incantation, the spell is not cast in material form, but through the astral plane. Sometimes, spirit shamanism can be channeled through a weapon like a normal spell. |
Detailed information: What is necessary for casting spells? 1. Anyone in the Slayers world has the potential to be able to cast spells. 2. To learn magic, mage guilds are most likely the best place to go. Experiments have made mage guilds the center of a lot of information, so potential sorcerors and sorceresses can learn almost anything there. 1. To learn high white magic, serving a god as a priest or priestess is necessary. Are there any variations to spells? 2. You can change shamanism spells by combining two or more elements. Sometimes, the two elements will combine into a new and often more powerful spell. 3. To change black magic, complex understanding of the special words and gestures associated with the spell is necessary. By altering or creating an entirely new incantation and set of gestures, it is possible to invent a new spell. However, powerful spells are almost impossible to come with, and to do all this you will usually have to be a very accomplished magician. 4. There is currently no solid knowledge on how to alter white magic. Is there any more information on mages and mage guilds? 1. Generally, the two types of mages are adventuring mages and researching mages. Lina is a good example of an adventuring one, while Rezo the Red Priest could be considered both, although a researching mage would be more accurate. 2. In Mage Guilds, mages of importance have a title of color. 3. The main point of Mage Guilds is to learn, teach, and discuss all types of things involving magic. There are items in the Guilds that are necessary to learn magic with. What is the limit to the amount of magic that can be cast? 1. Depending on the individual person, people can utilize varied amounts of magical energy before they can't cast any more spells. 2. Sometimes, an illness or disability can either weaken spells that are cast or cease them to be cast completely. 3. Some curses can seal away your magic for extended periods of time. 4. Talismans can temporarily increase your maximum magical capabilities. 5. Mozaku have far higher maximum capabilities than humans. What type of magic are each of the Slayers good at? 1. Lina's specialty is black magic, but she is skilled in shamanism and white magic as well. 2. Zelgadis specializes in shamanism, but is also skilled in black magic. I don't know about his white magic capabilities. 3. Amelia specializes in white magic, but is also skilled in shamanism. She is also able to cast black magic spells such as Fireball. 4. Gourry, uh, is magically challenged. ^^' 5. Xellos's magical capabilities are a secret (of course). All I know is, he's able to cast the Blast Bomb (fire shamanism). However, he's also able to cast extremely stong barriers, and once lit a copy of the Claire Bible on fire so Martina wouldn't read it just by flashing his eyes. 6. Since Filia is a priestess of the Fire Dragon King, she is definitely the best at white magic, and Divine Magic (unknown to humans), as well. Her white magic capabilities are exceptional, and she calls upon the power of Flare Dragon Ceipheed directly. |
Divine Magic and Chaos Magic- Most people just count these ultimate spells as white magic and black magic, but they should, in reality, be in a seperate category. Filia, who can call upon the power of Ceipheed directly, chants ancient holy spells that aren't included in white magic, it seems. As for Chaos Magic, these spells are the most powerful of all. While Divine Magic could possibly be rivaled by other magic, Chaos Magic is in a league all its own. The only spells are the Giga Slave and Ragna Blade. Both spells call upon the power of the Lord of Nightmares, so they have the power of both the gods and the mozaku. Chaos Magic and Divine Magic will be counted seperately from other spells in the spell list. |
