Requirements for the B. A. Degree in Mathematics

Basic Core Courses (22 hours):

One other abstract mathematics course (3 hours):

This course is to be chosen, with approval of the student's advisor from among MAT 425, MAT 463, MAT 465, MAT 475, MAT 481 or other abstract mathematics courses that are offered at the time.

At least four additonal upper-level courses (12 hours):

These courses should be chosen by the student in consultation with his/her advisor and must form a coherent program of study. The following subdivision of courses into different areas of concentratoin can be used as an aid in designing such a program of study, although the student is not restricted to choose courses from only one of these areas.

A senior-level "capstone" course : MAT 475 in 1997-98.

Other requirements:

In addition to the requirements listed above, students must either complete an 18 hour concentration or two 12-hour concentrations of approved courses outside of mathematics. These courses should complement the student's mathematics-statistics area of concentration.
