In December 1994, we opened our own El Shaddai DWXI-PPFI prayer-group in this parish with only about 15 people. In a period of two months, our attendance has grown to almost two hundred. Our goal is to fill the church by mid-1995. In those months, people in our parish share the light of Christ, the joy of our salvation, and the power of faith. Our parish is now experiencing a moral and spiritual revival by giving glory to God our Saviour, bringing healing to the sick—physically, spiritually, emotionally and even materially. This has really given strength to the weak, life to the lifeless in faith, light to the blind. More importantly, their love is literally on fire. We celebrate a Charismatic Mass once a month. Yes, El Shaddai is working miracles in this parish! Mass attendance is definitely increasing. Spiritual and physical healing and faith in God Almighty is revitalized. Many have surrendered completely to the power of the Holy Spirit and volunteered to serve willingly as servant-missionaries. I believe this is the answer to God's invitation which is:

“Come, follow me and make disciples of all nations,” and our answer is, “Here I am Lord Jesus Christ, send me.” Brother Mike, please continue your good work for the salvation of souls. Rest assured of our prayers for you and your intentions.

The El Shaddai DWXI-PPFI has started its activity here in Sai Kung in July 1993. Some of its leaders approached me, being the parish priest of the Sacred Heart Parish and supervisor of Sung Tsun Secondary School, in order to have a place where its members could gather on Saturdays for their prayer-meeting. Thanks to Fr. Paul Guinnevan, O.M.I., who was appointed by the Hong Kong Diocese for the Pastoral Services for Filipino Migrants for I was able to understand that the group is essentially a charismatic group, aimed at giving spiritual assistance to its members who are working in Hong Kong through regular catechesis, prayer-meetings with preaching (often given by Filipino-speaking lay brothers from the Philippines) participation in the Liturgy, and learning the Sacraments and the history of the Church.

Through the Foundation, many of its members have discovered their faith and developed a strong sense and interest in reading the Holy Bible, thus going deeper to its message. They have become aware of their need for prayer, developed sincerity in their concern for others, and have become effective witnesses and missionaries in their workplaces and communities. The most important and laudable point is the continuous effort being made by its members to answer the demanding tasks of a genuine Christian life as required by the Gospel and the teachings of the Church.

In our parish which has been traditionally a Chinese community for more than a century, the presence of its members has brought positive reactions. The piety and dedication of so many people, having their prayers and liturgies done sometimes under the scorching heat of the sun or pouring rain, are living examples for many tepid or indifferent parishioners. Their openness in spreading the Gospel in their workplaces has encouraged many employers to come and ask for religious instruction, catechesis and spiritual counselling. Every Sunday, there is a growing number of English-speaking Europeans, Americans, Australians, and other nationalities who join in the fellowship and in the liturgies. Among the members, many have been able to bless their civil marriages with Catholic Church wedding rites, and to have their children receive the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation.

For all that I have learned in my coordination with the Foundation, I wish to congratulate the people involved in this group who sincerely work with an evangelical attitude for the spiritual, emotional and often material good of the members. May God always bless Bro. Mike and all the members of the Foundation who have shown their love for Him in serving others!
